Assessment of the Correlation Between Systemic Conditions and Pulp Canal Calcification: A Case-Control Study.

OBJECTIVE: Pulp canal calcification is a dental condition that is characterized by the deposition of mineralized tissue within the dental pulp space. While it is primarily a local phenomenon, recent studies have suggested a potential link between pulp calcification and systemic diseases. This study aimed to determine the correlation between certain systemic diseases, medications, and the presence of pulp canal calcification. Second, it aimed to estimate the prevalence of pulp calcification in the smoker population. METHODS: A pair-matched case-control observational study was conducted from Ju

Comparative evaluation of clinical and radiographic success of three different lesion sterilization and tissue repair techniques as treatment options in primary molars requiring pulpectomy: An in vivo study.

INTRODUCTION: Paediatric endodontics is part of paediatric dental practice. Teeth with infected root canals, particularly those in which the infection has spread around the apical foramen and furcation area, is a common problem in primary dentition for such conditions pulpectomy is the procedure. Pulpectomy procedure proves to be long and complicated and has remained controversial for a number of reasons. Lesion sterilization and tissue repair therapy (LSTR) is a relatively new biologic approach for carious lesions with or without pulpal and periapical involvement using a mixture of antibiotic

Management of Teeth with Persistent Apical Periodontitis after Root Canal Treatment Using Regenerative Endodontic Therapy.

Regenerative endodontic therapy (RET) is currently used to treat immature teeth with necrotic pulp and/or apical periodontitis. However, recently RET has been used to treat mature teeth with necrotic pulp and/or apical periodontitis and resulted in regression of clinical signs and/or symptoms and resolution of apical periodontitis. The purpose of this case report was to describe the potential of using RET to treat 2 mature teeth with persistent apical periodontitis after root canal therapy using RET. Two male patients, one 26-year old and another 12-year old, presented for retreatment of persi

Investigating the Association between the Presence of Pulp Stone and Anesthesia Failure in Upper and Lower Molar Teeth.

INTRODUCTION: The close relationship between pulp stones in the pulp chamber and pulp neurovascular tissues suggests that the presence of pulp stones may compromise successful anesthesia. The present study assessed the effect of pulp stone presence on the failure of anesthesia in mandibular and maxillary molars. MATERIALS & METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, 126 patients were studied. Pulp stones were diagnosed by periapical radiography. After the anesthetic agent injection, failure was defined as patients raising their hand upon experiencing pain during any procedural step of endod

The Influence of Apical Radiolucency Size on Dentists' Decision-making Regarding Adequately Treated Teeth with Asymptomatic Apical Periodontitis using Digitally Simulated Images.

INTRODUCTION: Epidemiologic studies have reported a relatively high prevalence of asymptomatic apical periodontitis in endodontically treated teeth. Such teeth, when adequately restored and endodontically treated, present a clinical dilemma regarding whether to intervene or follow-up. The aim of this study was to examine dentists' clinical decision-making for well-treated endodontically and adequately restored teeth with asymptomatic apical periodontitis, presenting various sizes of simulated apical radiolucencies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty dentists (10 endodontic specialists and 10 prost

Challenging differentiation of oral malignant lymphoma from osteomyelitis of the jawbone: A case report.

Malignant lymphoma (ML) of the head and neck frequently occurs in the cervical lymph nodes and Waldeyer's ring. Although ML of the maxillofacial region is rare, extranodal ML can present with symptoms similar to those of inflammation and other tumors, making diagnosis difficult. The present study describes the case of a 59-year-old female patient with ML, which was difficult to distinguish from mandibular osteomyelitis. The patient presented to Department of Oral Medicine, Hokkaido University Hospital (Sapporo, Japan) for evaluation of left cheek swelling and osteomyelitis. The X-ray examinati

Accuracy of Conventional Periapical Radiography in Diagnosing Furcation Repair after Perforation Treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Periapical radiography (PR) is a diagnostic tool to be used by professionals in clinical practice. The method presents limitations, and doubts still exist about its value to evaluate furcation perforation and the reparative process of hard or soft tissues after treatment. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of PR as a diagnostic method to detect both resorption of the furcation area after induced experimental perforation and repair after perforation treatment using histopathological findings as a gold standard. METHODS: Thirty teeth of beagle dogs with furca

History of chronic periodontitis is a high risk indicator for peri-implant disease.

The success rates in implant dentistry vary significantly among patients presenting previous history of periodontitis. The aim of this study was to evaluate if patients with history of chronic periodontitis (CP) are more susceptible to peri-implant disease (PID) than those without history of CP. Two hundred and fifteen individuals, under periodontal maintenance, presenting 754 osseointegrated implants, were selected for this study. The patients were divided into two groups according to the peri-implant status: Control group (patients without PID; n=129) and PID group (patients with PID; n=86).

Management of an Open Apex Using a Platelet-Rich Fibrin Membrane as an Internal Matrix and Mineral Trioxide Aggregate as an Apical Barrier: A Case Report.

Apexification is a crucial procedure for achieving apical healing in non-vital teeth with open apices. Traditionally, calcium hydroxide has been used for this purpose, but it has significant drawbacks, including prolonged treatment duration, increased risk of root fracture, and the potential for porous barrier formation. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has emerged as a superior alternative due to its biocompatibility, faster setting time, and better sealing properties. However, MTA extrusion into periradicular tissues can cause persistent discomfort. The use of an internal matrix such as plat
