Risk factors for adverse reactions to nurse-administered propofol during outpatient endoscopy: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic procedures are essential for diagnosing and managing gastrointestinal conditions, often requiring sedation for patient comfort. Propofol is a common choice for outpatient sedation due to its rapid onset and predictable recovery time. Although propofol has an established safety profile, adverse drug reactions (ADRs) can still occur. This study investigated the prevalence and risk factors associated with ADRs related to nurse-administered propofol sedation during outpatient endoscopic procedures at a private hospital in Peru. METHOD: We conducted a retrospective study. Th

Peri-procedural Lidocaine Administration for Radiofrequency Ablation of Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Pilot Study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a curative option for early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) when liver resection or transplantation is not a suitable option. This study evaluated whether a peri-procedural intravenous lidocaine infusion could reduce neutrophil extracellular trap formation (NETosis), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and improve 1-year outcomes after RFA. METHODS: In this single-centre, randomized trial, 50 adult HCC patients undergoing RFA were allocated 1:1 to receive propofol-fentanyl sedation alone (PF group, n=25) or combined with intravenous

Comparative analysis of guidelines and recommendations for sedation during flexible bronchoscopy: a narrative review.

BACKGROUND: Flexible bronchoscopy is an essential, invasive procedure used in clinical practice for diagnosing and treating bronchial, pulmonary, thoracic and other diseases. Due to concerns about the potential for intense stimulation during flexible bronchoscopy operations, sedation is recommended by most countries and regions for all patients without contraindications. However, the use of sedative and analgesic substances for sedation during flexible bronchoscopy may result in respiratory depression, potentially leading to hypoxaemia and/or hypercapnia. Considering these side-effects and ass
