Quantitative Analysis, Extraction Optimization, and Biological Evaluation of Cudrania tricuspidata Leaf and Fruit Extracts.

Cudrania tricuspidata Bureau (Moraceae) shows numerous pharmacological effects and has been used in traditional herbal remedies for inflamma … oid content and xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitory activity. The validated HPLC method confirmed that chlorogenic acid, rutin, and kaempferol were present in C. tricuspidata leaf extracts. We postulated that the antioxidant and anti-hyperuricemic/gout effects of C. tricuspidata extract could be attributed to these marker compounds. Our results suggested that the fla …

[Changes in antioxidative system and cell ultrastructure in the fruit peels of apple during sunburn development].

Fruits from 6-year-old apple trees (Malus domestica Borkh cv. Fuji) were used as materials to test the changes of antioxidative system and c … became enriched with electron-dense substances while fruit peels became pale. As peel became brown, chlorogenic acid, quercetin, rutin and myricetin accumulated, and cells of outer layers of the epidermis collapsed correspondingly, cell wall became thicker. It is suggested that changes in both cell ultrastructure and antioxidative system confirm that physiological …

Sustainable Room Temperature Phosphorescence From Carbon Dots Confined in a Cellulose-Rich Coconut Coir Matrix.

Room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials derived from sustainable resources are highly desirable but remain challenging due to the intrinsic instability of triplet excitons under ambient conditions. Herein, a biobased RTP system is reported by selectively integrating chlorogenic acid-derived carbon dots (CDs) into a cellulose-rich coconut coir matrix. The coir fiber, after oxidative delignification, forms a rigid and dense hydrogen bond network that effectively confines the emissive CDs and suppresses non-radiative decay. The incorporation of CDs not only introduces tunable emissive st…

Synergistic effects of polyphenols and methylxanthines with Leucine on AMPK/Sirtuin-mediated metabolism in muscle cells and adipocytes.

The AMPK-Sirt1 pathway is an important regulator of energy metabolism and therefore a potential target for prevention and therapy of metabolic diseases. We recently demonstrated leucine and its metabolite β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate (HMB) to synergize with low-dose resveratrol (200 nM) to activate sirtuin signaling and stimulate energy metabolism. Here we show that leucine exerts a direct effect on Sirt1 kinetics, reducing its Km for NAD(+) by >50% and enabling low doses of resveratrol to further activate the enzyme (p = 0.012). To test which structure elements of resveratrol are necessary for

A dual-responsive nanosystem for synergistic antibacterial therapy and inflammatory microenvironment modulation in infected diabetic wound healing.

The refractory healing of diabetic wounds represents a major clinical challenge, primarily attributed to a vicious cycle formed by persistent bacterial infection, excessive oxidative stress, and a dysregulated immune microenvironment. To simultaneously address multiple pathological barriers, an intelligent composite nanoplatform was designed and constructed in this study, integrating near-infrared (NIR) photothermal therapy, reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging, antimicrobial activity, and immunomodulation. A mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA) core was loaded with chlorogenic acid (CGA), a nat…
