Ebstein's Anomaly, Left Ventricular Noncompaction and Gerbode-Like Defect Triad (Fetal Diagnosis and Neonatal Course).

Ebstein's anomaly is characterized by the apical displacement of the septal and posterior leaflets of the tricuspid valve with atrialization of the right ventricle (RV). It is commonly associated with other heart defects including left ventricular noncompaction. We describe a case of prenatally diagnosed Ebstein's anomaly in association with left ventricular noncompaction and a septal defect between the left ventricle and the atrialized portion of the RV (Gerbode-like defect). The patient underwent a modified Blalock-Taussig shunt followed by Glenn procedure because of severe RV hypoplasia and

Ebstein's anomaly during pregnancy: experience from a tertiary care centre - a case series and review of literature.

Pregnancy complicated with uncorrected Ebstein's anomaly is uncommon and may pose a serious threat to maternal and foetal life in the clinical setting of altered hemodynamics of pregnancy. Data of eight pregnancies in four women with Ebstein's anomaly who delivered in a tertiary care institute was analysed. Among the four women, one had associated atrial septal defect, one had pulmonary hypertension and three had right bundle branch block. There were two miscarriages and six successful pregnancies resulting in live births. Three of the pregnancies were delivered by caesarean section. There was

Fusobacterial brain abscess caused by paradoxical embolization associated with Ebstein's anomaly in an adult patient: A case report.

Brain abscess remains a life-threatening condition. Here, we are reporting a case of brain abscess due to Fusobacterium nucleatum in a previously known case of Ebstein anomaly. A 44-year-old male presented with the complaints of headache, and fever. Cerebral imaging revealed parieto-occipital (PO) abscess. The abscess was drained and culture showed growth of Fusobacterium nucleatum. This report illustrates the importance of considering anaerobes as the cause of brain abscess, underscores the usefulness of MALDI, which facilitated the selection of appropriate and prompt adjuvant antibiotic ther…

Three-dimensional echocardiographic evaluation of Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve in a patient with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

We report three-dimensional imaging of a rare finding of Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve in a patient with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, which has been previously reported only by two-dimensional echocardiography. A fetal echocardiogram was performed at 19 weeks that showed a moderately hypoplastic left ventricle, severely hypoplastic mitral valve, a severely hypoplastic aortic valve, and a dysplastic tricuspid valve. Post Caesarean delivery at 40 weeks of gestation, a transthoracic echocardiogram confirmed the findings seen on the fetal echocardiogram. A three-dimensional echocard

Outcomes of Ebstein's Anomaly Patients Treated with Tricuspid Valvuloplasty or Tricuspid Valve Replacement: Experience of a Single Center.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of Ebstein's anomaly is extremely low, and except for the Mayo Clinic, no cardiac center has reported on a sufficient number of patients. The aim of our study was to report the outcomes of Ebstein's anomaly patients treated with tricuspid valvuloplasty (TVP) or tricuspid valve replacement (TVR). METHODS: TVP or TVR was performed in 245 patients from July 2006 to April 2016. We reviewed patients' records and contacted patients via outpatient service and over the telephone. RESULTS: The mean follow-up time was 43.6 ± 32.6 months, and 224 (91.4%) patients underwent fol

Acute arterial embolism of left lower extremity caused by paradoxical embolism in Ebstein's anomaly: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Ebstein's anomaly is a benign and stable congenital heart disease for asymptomatic patients. Despite a low incidence of Ebstein's anomaly (EA), patients' quality of life can be badly affected by EA without positive surgical intervention. Especially EA is associated with other congenital heart disease, such as the atrial septal defect, patent foramen ovale, and arterial embolism exclude other reasons, it is often considered to be the consequence of paradoxical embolism, and surgical intervention must be conducted. CASE REPORT: An 11-year-old girl falling off the bed suffered pain

Morphologic and functional abnormalities in patients with Ebstein's anomaly with cardiac magnetic resonance imaging: Correlation with tricuspid regurgitation.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to assess the correlations of functional and dimensional parameters with the severity of tricuspid regurgitation in patients with Ebstein's anomaly (EA) by using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-three patients with EA without previous cardiac surgery and 25 normal individuals were recruited and underwent both cardiac MR imaging and preoperative transthoracic echocardiography. The left ventricular (LV) functional parameters and dimensions of the right ventricle (RV) and LV were measured using 3.0-T cardiac MR imaging. Tr

Fetal and neonatal imaging and strategy of primary neonatal heart transplantation in hypoplastic left heart with Ebstein's anomaly.

We present the anatomic constellation of mitral stenosis/aortic atresia variant of hypoplastic left heart syndrome, Ebstein's anomaly, and partial anomalous pulmonary venous return, an exceeding rare congenital heart defect. Prenatal echocardiography led to concern about the capacity of the right ventricle to increase cardiac output with lung expansion and pulmonary arterial runoff at birth, prompting the precaution of extracorporeal membrane oxygenator standby at delivery. Stage I palliation was not attempted, and control of pulmonary arterial blood flow was achieved with pulmonary artery ban

Clinical spectrum and long-term outcome of Ebstein's anomaly based on a 26-year experience in an Asian cohort.

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare, congenital cardiac anomaly that may result in cyanosis, right heart failure, and tachyarrhythmia during the newborn stage or after adolescence. This study investigated the data of 77 patients diagnosed between 1980 and 2006 at a tertiary care center in Taiwan. Patients were grouped into either an early group or a late group. Survival declined rapidly within the newborn stage in the early group, but declined only during the third decade in the late group. Surgical results were poor (20% success rate) for neonatal systemic-to-pulmonary shunts in those cases with asso

Radiofrequency catheter ablation of accessory pathway in a patient with Ebstein's anomaly and atrial septal defect--a case report.

The authors report the case of a 57-year-old woman with Ebstein's anomaly and atrial septal defect. She was referred to their hospital for treatment of refractory paroxysmal wide QRS tachycardia. Her 12-leads ECG in sinus rhythm showed ventricular preexcitation of type B Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. In a baseline electrophysiological study, a wide QRS tachycardia with right bundle branch block configurations was induced. This tachycardia was orthodromic atrioventricular reciprocating tachycardia with a right inferior accessory pathway. Radiofrequency current was successfully delivered at th

Ebstein's anomaly associated with severe valvar pulmonary stenosis: successful palliation with balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty in an adult.

We report a 52-year-old adult with Ebstein's anomaly associated with severe valvar pulmonary stenosis, secundum atrial septal defect, polycythemia, hypoxemia, and severe exertional limitations. Balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty relieved the valvar obstruction, reduced the degree of tricuspid regurgitation and polycythemia, and improved systemic oxygenation and exercise abilities. Use of this technique in patients with this combination of lesions can postpone the need for surgical intervention.

Bi-directional cavopulmonary shunt associated with ventriculo and valvuloplasty in Ebstein's anomaly: benefits in high risk patients.

OBJECTIVE: The prognosis for surgical repair of Ebstein's anomaly depends on the tricuspid valve repair and on the right ventricular function. In order to decrease the preload of the compromised right ventricle, a bi-directional cavopulmonary shunt was added to the intracardiac repair. METHODS: Among 113 patients operated on for Ebstein' s anomaly at our institution from 1980-1997, a cohort of 60 patients was selected for high risk for postoperative complications. Patients presented with one or more several criteria: massive tricuspid valve dysfunction, extended atrialized right ventricle, po

Successful radiofrequency current catheter ablation of accessory atrioventricular pathway after tricuspid replacement in Ebstein's anomaly.

A 15-year-old female with Ebstein's anomaly was referred to hospital for radiofrequency (RF) current catheter ablation of her refractory paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) after tricuspid valve replacement. A surface ECG showed ventricular preexcitation of type B Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome. In a baseline electrophysiological study, two types of PSVT with left and right bundle branch block (LBBB and RBBB) configurations were induced. The LBBB type was antidromic and the RBBB type was orthodromic atrioventricular reciprocating tachycardia (AVRT) with a right posterolateral

[Two staged Starnes operation for Ebstein's anomaly with pulmonary atresia in early infancy--a report of a successful case].

Severe tricuspid valve regurgitation and decreased pulmonary blood flow in neonatal Ebstein's anomaly with pulmonary atresia, may result in cardiac respiratory failure and hypoxemia. The poor natural course and lack of standard surgical treatment make treatment for neonatal Ebstein's anomaly very difficult. The Blalock-Taussig operation was performed for hypoxemia in Ebstein's anomaly associated with pulmonary atresia and severe tricuspid regurgitation on 36th day after birth. On the 63rd day after birth, tricuspid valve orifice closure and right atrium plication (Starnes procedure) were accom

Aortic arch interruption with rheumatic mitral stenosis and Ebstein's anomaly. Report of a case with successful surgical outcome.

We present a rare case of a patient with interrupted aortic arch with Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve and rheumatic mitral stenosis. This patient presented in early adulthood, which makes his case even more unusual. We successfully treated the mitral stenosis and the interrupted aortic arch through a left lateral thoracotomy, but we decided against correcting the Ebstein's anomaly, which was mild. The hemodynamic effects of each lesion, independently and in the presence of each other, are discussed.

Ebstein's anomaly of the left atrioventricular valve with congenital corrected transposition of the great arteries. Diagnosis by intracavitary electrocardiography.

We present the findings in a 13-month-old infant with angiographically confirmed congenital corrected transposition of the great arteries and insufficiency of the left atrioventricular valve. Simultaneous intracavitary electrocardiographic and pressure recordings across the left atrioventricular valve were similar to those obtained in Ebsteins' anomaly and suggested Ebstein's disease of the left atrioventricular valve. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case with intracavitary electrocardiograms in a patient with congenital corrected transposition of the great arteries with Ebstein's
