Acute retinal necrosis (ARN) is a rare but very severe form of retinitis. In contrast to progressive outer retinal necrosis acute retinal necrosis typically affects immunocompetent individuals. The aim of this study is to correlate multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG) and visual evoked potential (VEP) changes with visual acuity and clinical features in patients with posterior segment inflammation secondary to syphilis. BACKGROUND: Persistent and recurrent nummuli after epidemic keratokonjunktivitis (EKC) often lead to reduced visual acuity and increased glare. In spite of long-term topical steroid therapy nummuli often recur. We tried to treat persistent nummuli with phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK).

METHOD: Using a transpalpebral approach, 2.0-6.5 ml connective tissue was removed from 50 orbits of 33 patients with mild to severe Graves' orbitopathy (25 females, 8 males) over a 5-year period. The results obtained by pars plana vitrectomy in 24 eyes with chronic uveitis, including endogenous intermediate and other types of uveitis, were retrospectively analyzed.
