[The practice guideline 'pelvic inflammatory disease' (first revision) from the Dutch College of General Practitioners; a response from the perspective of gynaecology].

In 2005, the Dutch College of General Practitioners revised their guideline on pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). It is difficult to diagnose PID because of the variability in the presentation of the disease. The revised guideline is a solid guide in the diagnostic process. History taking and physical examination are the most important diagnostic techniques, but require experience. Any diagnostic uncertainty justifies the consultation ofa specialist. The value ofsupplementary diagnostics in a specialist setting is limited. In case of suspected PID, cervical material should always be cultured f

Teaching physicians the GPGP method promotes deprescribing in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

BACKGROUND: In complex older patients, inappropriate medication use and polypharmacy (IMUP) are commonplace and increasing exponentially. Reducing IMUP is a challenge in multiple clinical contexts, including acute admission and family practice, due to several key barriers. In the global effort against this epidemic, educational programs geared toward changing physicians' prescribing patterns represent an important means of promoting deprescribing. METHODS: This is a nonrandomized, controlled interventional study investigating polypharmacy outcomes and prescribing patterns in patients whose ph

Current Management of Craniosynostosis: A Nordic Pediatric Neurosurgery Network Study.

Historically, management of craniosynostosis (CS) has been marked by substantial variation. Although recent advances in diagnostics, minimally invasive techniques, and computer-assisted planning might be expected to promote greater uniformity, significant differences persist, as shown in a large US survey of current practice patterns. To clarify the extent of heterogeneity in the Nordic countries (28 million inhabitants), the authors conducted a comprehensive survey of all centers treating CS in the region. All 11 centers responded (100%). Marked heterogeneity was evident across organizational

Clinical practice for closed reduction of distal radius fractures in Denmark.

INTRODUCTION: Distal radius fractures (DRFs) are common, with over 14,000 annual cases in Denmark. Most cases are treated non-surgically and may require closed reduction prior to casting. National guidelines for anaesthesia and reduction technique for closed reduction of DRFs are lacking, impacting clinical practices and potentially optimal care. This survey aimed to describe Danish clinical practice for initial treatment and closed reduction of DRFs. METHODS: Between January and April 2025, the survey was distributed online to the 23 physicians responsible for all 44 emergency departments an

Trends in industry payments and volume and distribution of robot-assisted surgeries.

BACKGROUND: Considerable evidence links pharmaceutical industry payments to health providers' over-prescribing behavior. In response, public policies were enacted to mitigate this effect. However, there is limited evidence examining surgical device industry payments and surgeons' utilization of robot-assisted surgeries (RAS). This study assessed the relationship between industry payments to healthcare providers and the usage of RAS. METHODS: Using 2015-2020 data from the CMS "Sunshine" Open Payments Database and New York State's (NYS) Statewide hospital discharge databases, we assessed tempor
