OBJECTIVES: Nonpalpable testes account for 20% of cryptorchidism. Laparoscopy is now the mainstay in management, but open surgery has been the only option for many patients in the past and even today. We suspected that open exploration may have missed gonads in presumed negative open exploration. As abdominal gonads are even more prone to cancerous degeneration, we proposed laparoscopic re-evaluation to patients with previous inconclusive open exploration for impalpable testis.

PURPOSE: There is no robust evidence for the efficacy of intraoperative antibiotics in preventing infections in testicular torsion surgery, the incidence of which is reported to be <0.2 %. In the absence of clear guidelines regarding the appropriate use of antibiotic prophylaxis, the factors influencing these differences in practice patterns remain unclear. Bilateral cryptorchidism treatment results are often shadowed by the majority of unilateral cases. We report the long-term follow-up results of boys treated for bilateral cryptorchidism during childhood. Patients treated in two main paediatric surgery centres were selected from medical registries and invited for a clinical examination including scrotal ultrasound, salivary testosterone measurement and a semen sample. PURPOSE: The purpose of the study is to study the natural course of undescended testes after inguinoscrotal surgery.
METHODS: From 2003-2010, 24 boys were observed with 26 undescended testes after inguinoscrotal surgery; 12 had previously undergone inguinal hernia repair and 12 orchidopexy. Spontaneous descent was awaited and (re-)orchidopexy would only be performed in case of non-descent at puberty. AIM OF THE STUDY: To assess outcomes of staged Fowler-Stephens orchidopexy (FSO) in management of intra-abdominal testes (IAT) in six paediatric tertiary centres in the UK.
METHODS: Retrospective case note review for all patients undergoing open or laparoscopic staged FSO for IAT between January 2009 and March 2021 followed by at least one clinic visit in all six centres.
RESULTS: Across the six centres, 440 patients with IAT (298 unilateral, 74 bilateral) were identified, out of which 469 testes with complete records following 2 stage FSO were included in the study. Median follow-up was 17.
