A 13-year-old male neutered British blue cat presented with uveitis, hyphema, and dyscoria in the right eye. Light microscopic examination revealed that the ciliary body, iris root, drainage angle, and adjacent choroid were infiltrated by sheets of large neoplastic mononuclear and multinucleate round to polygonal cells. Neoplastic cells stained immunopositive for CD18 and HLA-DR (MHC class II) and were immunonegative for CD3, CD79a, MUM-1, CD117 (c-Kit), and S100. An approximately 8-year-old male castrated Dutch rabbit was evaluated for a 6-day history of respiratory signs, which began as sneezing and progressed to tachypnea with anorexia. On physical examination, tachypnea and pale mucous membranes were noted. A 9-year-old spayed female domestic shorthair cat presented with a skin lesion of the left tarsus. The lesion was biopsied and, based on the microscopic appearance and immunohistochemical characteristics, histiocytic sarcoma was diagnosed. Amputation was performed with improved demeanor seen postoperatively. However, between 44 and 60 days following the surgery, relapse of skin lesions appeared in multiple locations, including at the previous amputation site, and euthanasia was elected. This is the first report of a histiocytic sarcoma treated with amputation in a cat.

Intramedullary primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare central nervous system (CNS) malignancy affecting mostly the brain, but it may also involve the leptomeninges, eyes, and spinal cord. A 71-year-old woman presented with back pain and progressive unilateral lower extremity weakness owing to an intramedullary primary histiocytic sarcoma of the spine, a rare PCNSL subtype. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first case of an intramedullary PCNSL caused by histiocytic sarcoma.

OBJECTIVE: To describe and characterize histiocytic sarcoma (HS) first detected in the eyes of dogs using the large database at the comparative ocular pathology laboratory of Wisconsin (COPLOW).
METHODS: Cases diagnosed as HS were selected from the COPLOW database. Canine histiocytic neoplasms include cutaneous histiocytoma, as well as localized and disseminated histiocytic sarcoma. These tumors have variable biologic behavior, although the malignant disorders often have a poor prognosis. Immunohistochemistry plays an essential role in differentiating histiocytic tumors from other neoplasias that may have similar histological appearances. This allows a definitive diagnosis to be established and provides a more accurate prediction of prognosis. This article reviews the biologic behavior, diagnosis, and treatment of histiocytic tumors in the dog.

Individual cases of so-called Weber-Christian disease with a bleeding diathesis have been reported for several years. These were originally diagnosed as Weber-Christian disease, but have been recategorized on review as a chronic, visceral, and cutaneous histiocytic (cytophagic) panniculitis, progressing to liver dysfunction and jaundice and a terminal hemorrhagic diathesis. We report here a rare catastrophic form of systemic panniculitis in an adolescent girl. Despite compelling clinical evidence, the diagnosis was made only on postmortem biopsies.

CASE REPORT: An 83-year-old patient developed inguinal intertrigo bilaterally. The lesions contained maculopapulous elements without Darier's sign. The histology examination revealed a mixed mast cell infiltration predominated by histiocytes. The ultrastructure confirmed the diagnosis of cutaneous mastocytosis. No extension was observed.

A histiocytic sarcoma in an aging female gerbil is described. The neoplasm primarily involved the spleen and liver, and these organs were considered the primary sites of neoplastic origin. No neoplastic infiltration was noted in the uterus or ovaries as is commonly seen in the female mouse. This is the first report of histiocytic sarcoma in gerbils.

The M5076 tumor, a reticulum cell sarcoma of histiocytic origin that arose spontaneously in the ovary of a C57BL/6 mouse, is highly invasive and metastatic.
