Use of Mini-anchors and Rehabilitation with 0° Cusp Angle Teeth Complete Denture in Recurrent Condylar Dislocation: Technical Adequacy and Procedure.

AIM: To report a case of association between the surgical treatment of temporomandibular dysfunction and rehabilitation with denture total prosthesis (TP) using nonanatomic teeth (cusp 0°) in patients with anterior recurrent dislocation of the temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) and persistent uncontrolled mandibular movement, showing a technical adaptation and conduct. INTRODUCTION: There are several treatment approaches available for dislocation of the TMJ. The use of condylar mini-anchors for recurrent TMJ dislocation is a valid option and should be considered since it does not alter the joint

Mandibular Notch Contouring in Temporomandibular Joint Replacement. Technical Note.

Temporomandibular Joint Replacement (TMJ-R) is used to treat maxillomandibular disease related to condylar head augmentation, condylar head reduction, absence of the condylar head and TMJ reconstruction. In most of the cases, TMJ-R could be used together with orthognathic surgery. In cases with facial asymmetry related to overgrowth of the mandibular condyle as in the cases of osteochondroma, there is a progressive facial asymmetry with enlargement of the unilateral mandibular ramus and mandibular body, creating strong mandibular contouring when comparing to the contralateral side. Usually, in

Reliability of the digital functionally generated path technique for assessing occlusal interferences and adjusting CAD-CAM zirconia crowns: an in vivo study.

BACKGROUND: Designing the occlusal surface of a prosthesis to ensure optimal eccentric occlusion is challenging without precisely replicating the patient's mandibular movements. During the CAD-CAM prosthesis delivery process, clinicians often need to make adjustments to the prosthesis to avoid occlusal interferences that may occur during lateral excursions. Recently, there have been developments in the field of mandibular motion tracking using optical devices. These approaches seek to incorporate an individual's functional movement into the research field of occlusal morphology. AIM: This stu

[Application of prosthetic replacement for bilateral maxillectomy defect].

A 59-year-old woman with large hard palate cancer underwent surgical resection. We constructed a maxillary prosthesis to be connected to the patient's mandibular denture. Bilateral maxillectomy resulted in total loss of the hard palate and bilateral alveolar and partial loss of the soft palate. A obturator prosthesis was prepared beforehand to fit the surgical cavity. The patient recovered functional speech and swallowing at a relatively early stage, achieving satisfactory cosmetic results.

A Precise Method of Measuring Simultaneous Intrusion and Uprighting of Mandibular Molar Using Denta Scan - A Case Report.

A commonly encountered problem in prosthetic dentistry is the supra eruption of teeth due to absence of opposing teeth. Consequently, replacement of the missing teeth with prosthesis becomes difficult due to lack of vertical dimension of the edentulous area. This article describes the space regaining procedure in a 14-year-old female patient who wanted a fixed prosthesis for her missing maxillary 1st molar. On examination, it was observed that mandibular 1st molar had supraerupted and tipped lingually. After considering the various treatment modalities it was decided to simultaneously intrude

[Complex prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient with temporomandibular dysfunction. Case report].

There are varying opinions regarding the contribution of occlusal interferences to the development and progression of temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD). Several studies have demonstrated that the use of occlusal adjustment might prevent the development of TMD and the exacerbation of its symptoms. Since the aetiology of TMD is multiple, the prosthodontic treatment cannot always be sufficient, but tends to be effective in some cases. The present article describes a case of a complex prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient with TMD that originates from her previous prosthesis, resulting in reduc

Alloplastic Temporomandibular Joint Reconstruction in Congenital Craniofacial Deformities.

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) reconstruction with alloplastic prosthesis is a commonly performed procedure, which can be used as a treatment for improving pathologic conditions affecting the TMJ. Depending of the severity of the condition, the patient's ability to eat can be impaired, which in turn can affect their quality of life. Several syndromes can affect the patient's facial features, and some of those also affect TMJ's. Use of alloplastic prosthesis in TMJ's affecting syndromes, by means of correcting TMJ conditions and mandibular deformities, is still rather uncommon. Purpose of our st

Temporomandibular Joint Prosthesis in a Patient with Congenital Infiltrating Lipomatosis of the Face with Bony Ankylosis of the Temporomandibular Joint: A Case Report.

Hemifacial hyperplasia (HFH) is a rare congenital disorder characterized by marked unilateral overgrowth of the facial tissues. A subtype of HFH is congenital infiltrating lipomatosis of the face (CIL-F). This disease is characterized by unilateral diffuse infiltration of mature adipose cells in the facial soft tissue and is associated with skeletal hypertrophy. This work aims to report a case of a CIL-F patient with right facial asymmetry and progressive growth at adolescent age, causing mandibular asymmetry due to signs of concomitant unilateral condylar hyperplasia. At the age of seventeen,

Vertical distraction osteogenesis of the mandible applied to an iliac crest graft: report of a case.

OBJECTIVES: This clinical case represents a particular application of vertical distraction osteogenesis of the mandible. The surgical technique was applied to an iliac crest bone graft previously positioned on an anterior mandibular defect with the aim to restore the vertical height after a partial resorption in a trauma patient. CASE REPORT: Distraction osteogenesis was applied because it was necessary to restore the mandibular height in a young male patient who presented with a post-trauma anterior mandibular bony deficiency. Because of the irregularity of the mandibular surface and the dep

Prosthetic Rehabilitation of a Hemi-mandibulectomy Patient with Interim Mandibular Guide Flange and Maxillary Twin Occlusion: A Case Report.

In hemi-mandibulectomy patients, the fabrication of a successful prosthesis is a challenging task. Segmental resection of the mandible causes deviation toward the resected side resulting in facial disfigurement, difficulty in speech, mastication, swallowing, respiration, and restricted mandibular movements. Such a condition affects the daily life of the patient and might also result in a disturbed psychological state. The primary goal of treating these patients was to achieve facial aesthetics and restore function and phonetics. Such a scenario can be tackled more efficiently with good patient

Stress distribution of single-implant-retained overdenture reinforced with a framework: A finite element analysis study.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of a single-implant-retained mandibular overdenture for elderly patients with edentulism. However, due to the high concentration of stress around the housing portion of the single implant, this prosthesis tends to fracture at the anterior region more than the 2-implant-retained mandibular overdenture. PURPOSE: The purpose of this finite-element analysis study was to evaluate the stress distribution in a single-implant-retained mandibular overdenture reinforced with a cobalt-chromium framework, to minimize the incidence of dentu
