Aggressive behaviour of metastatic melanoma in a patient with neurofibromatosis type 1.

Malignant melanoma is a common skin neoplasm bearing poor prognosis when presenting with metastases. Rarely melanoma metastases present without an identifiable primary cutaneous lesion despite exhaustive workup. We describe the case of a solitary lung metastasis in a patient with neurofibromatosis type 1 without an identifiable primary tumour. The rapid progression of this malignant neoplasm that led to the patient's death within 1 year is described.

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis of the central nervous system.

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is a well recognized phenomenon. Although any tumor may be potential recipient of metastasis, renal cell carcinoma and meningioma are the most common malignant and benign recipients, respectively, whereas the lung and breast are the most common metastatic donors respectively, in both settings. Patients with hereditary cancer syndromes may be at higher risk for the development of tumor-to-tumor metastases. The most common pattern of tumor-to-tumor metastasis for intracranial neoplasms is the type in which an aggressive high-grade malignancy serves as the source of tumo

Bilateral Renal Cell Carcinoma in the Horseshoe Kidney With Metastasis in Gallbladder, Pancreas and Duodenum: A Report of a Rare Case and Literature Review.

Horseshoe kidney is the most common renal fusion anomaly and is associated with various complications, ranging from infections to neoplasms. While renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most frequent renal neoplasm in adults, its occurrence in a horseshoe kidney is rare, and bilateral involvement is rarer. Furthermore, RCC metastasizing to organs is known and rare sites of metastasis are also documented. The report presents a unique case of bilateral RCC in a horseshoe kidney with synchronous metastasis to the gallbladder, pancreas, and duodenum. This presentation, involving metastasis to these spe

[Anaplastic Carcinoma with Osteoclast-Like Giant Cells of the Pancreas and Synchronous Liver Metastasis That Was Successfully Treated with Surgery and Chemotherapy-A Case Report].

A 76-year-old man presented with a pancreatic cystic lesion on magnetic resonance imaging before surgery for bladder cancer. Endoscopic ultrasound(EUS)suggested a malignant tumor such as a neuroendocrine neoplasm, but EUS-fine-needle aspiration was not performed. In addition, a single tumor 10 mm in size was found in the liver(S5), and liver metastasis was suspected. We judged that surgery would be useful for treating the neuroendocrine neoplasm and liver metastasis, so we performed distal pancreatectomy, splenectomy, and partial hepatectomy. Histopathological examination revealed anaplastic c

Metastasis within a pituitary adenoma presenting with bilateral abducens palsies: case report and review of the literature.

A 56-year-old woman with metastatic breast carcinoma presented on her terminal hospital admission with diplopia secondary to bilateral abducens nerve palsies. Postmortem examination revealed a sellar mass composed of an unsuspected pituitary adenoma infiltrated by metastatic carcinoma. Review of the literature revealed only seven patients with this rare neoplasm-to-neoplasm metastasis, none of whom were reported to have had abducens palsies.

Pink-on-pink: hepatocellular carcinoma metastatic to oncocytic carcinoma of the thyroid.

Hepatocellular carcinoma typically metastasizes within the liver and may involve extrahepatic sites such as the lungs, adrenal glands, and bones at advanced stages. However, hepatocellular carcinoma metastasis to the thyroid is very uncommon and tumor-to-tumor metastasis from a hepatocellular cancer to a thyroid neoplasm is extremely rare. In this report, we present a case of a 70-year-old man with a hepatocellular carcinoma metastasizing to oncocytic thyroid carcinoma, emphasizing the importance of clinical history and of a multidisciplinary approach, as well as the usefulness of site-specifi

Cutaneous Metastasis From Parotid Tumors: A Report of 2 Cases and Literature Review.

Cutaneous metastases from parotid tumors are uncommon and imply a poor prognosis. In this article, we report 2 new cutaneous metastasis cases from 2 different parotid malignancies and 42 additional cases from a literature review. Clinical manifestations, localization, and outcomes of skin metastasis from parotid tumors are described. Although infrequent, parotid neoplasms may develop skin metastasis many years after the initial diagnosis, mostly in the head and neck region. Therefore, long-term follow-up and periodic skin examination of these patients is mandatory. Dermatologists and surgeons

Endometrial stromal sarcoma of the retroperitoneum.

Endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS) is an uncommon neoplasm whose occurrence outside the uterus is extremely rare in the absence of metastasis or extension of a primary uterine neoplasm. When ESS occurs in such locations it is often associated with the uterine adnexa or serosal surface of various organs. Although rare, ESS is usually considered in the differential diagnosis of spindle cell neoplasms in the female patient. We report a case of ESS arising in the retroperitoneum and discuss the morphologic and immunohistochemical features in the context of the differential diagnosis of a retroperit

Cerebellopontine angle and internal auditory canal metastasis from ductal carcinoma of the breast.

This is the first formal case report of internal auditory canal and cerebellopontine angle metastasis from infiltrative ductal carcinoma of the breast. Only three previous cases have been reported of isolated metastasis in the cerebellopontine angle and internal auditory canal from breast cancer. Currently, no therapeutic guidelines for isolated metastasis from breast cancer in this location exist. We report a case and review the current literature in order to help characterize the clinicopathologic features and management. A 72-year-old female with a 5-year history of left infiltrative ductal

Atypical meningioma with nodal metastasis: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Meningiomas are common and usually benign central nervous system neoplasms. These neoplasms are graded into three groups which differ in biological behaviour. Atypical meningioma is an intermediate grade (Grade 2) tumour that is rarely associated with metastases compared to higher grade (Grade 3) meningiomas. CASE REPORT: A 68-year-old lady with a history of multiple craniotomies and hemifacial resections for meningothelial meningioma currently underwent orbital exenteration, tumour debulking and cervical nodal excision for tumour recurrence. Widespread cutaneous metastases from acinic cell carcinoma 20 years after primary presentation.

Acinic cell carcinoma is a rare, low-grade malignant salivary gland neoplasm. Approximately, 20% of patients experience local recurrence and 10% distant metastasis, often many years after initial presentation. We present a case of widespread cutaneous metastasis from acinic cell carcinoma arising in a 59-year-old woman with a history of acinic cell carcinoma of the parotid gland 20 years prior to her cutaneous disease. To our knowledge, is the first report of widespread cutaneous metastasis from acinic cell carcinoma.

[Thyroid metastases of an adrenocortical carcinoma 41 years after the diagnosis of the primary tumor].

Thyroid metastasis are rare and represent less than 4% of malignant thyroid tumors in clinical series. They can develop many years after diagnosis of the primary tumor. We report a case of thyroid metastasis of adrenocortical carcinoma, 41 years after the diagnosis of the primary tumor. Such a long latent interval is exceptional. To our knowledge, this is the first case published. Based on current literature, we offer a brief review on thyroid metastasis and differential diagnosis of thyroid gland clear cell neoplasm.

Selective Internal Radiation Therapy for Liver Metastasis of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma.

Papillary carcinoma of thyroid (PTC) is the most common neoplasm of the thyroid gland that usually invades lymphatics rather than blood vessels. Hematogenous metastasis of PTC is rare, and distant metastasis to the liver is even rarer. Selective internal radiation therapy with Y microspheres is a well-recognized technique in the treatment of liver metastases. Herein, we present a case of PTC with radioactive iodine-negative hepatic metastasis detected by F-FDG PET/CT and treated with selective internal radiation therapy.

Pituitary metastasis of lung neuroendocrine carcinoma: case report and literature review.

Metastasis to the pituitary gland is an unusual situation in clinical practice, but the frequency thereof is increasing due to the increased survival of cancer patients, and greater availability of imaging. In most cases, they are found between the sixth and seventh decades of life, as determined in image examination of patients with known malignant neoplasm, but, generally, asymptomatic with respect to pituitary involvement. The most common primary sites are breast in women and lung in men. We present the case of a 64-year-old patient with clinical visual changes, polyuria, polydipsia, and de

Skull Metastasis of Gastric Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor Successfully Managed by Surgery.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are rare, but are the most common mesenchymal neoplasm of the gastrointestinal tract. The most common sites of metastasis are liver and peritoneum, while bone metastasis is rare. We report on a patient with skull metastasis after seven years of treatment with imatinib for metastatic GIST. She underwent metastasectomy consisting of craniectomy with excision of the mass, and cranioplasty and continued treatment with imatinib and sunitinib, without evidence of cranial recurrence. She died of pneumonia sepsis one year after metastasectomy. Skull metastasis o

Role of fine needle aspiration cytology in the management of supraclavicular lymph node metastasis: Review of our experience.

INTRODUCTION: In the 19th century Virchow described that metastasis to left supraclavicular lymph nodes (SLN) could originate in neoplasms located under the diaphragm. In the same way, right SLN metastasis are usually thought to arise from thoracic neoplasms. Our aims are to review our experience with metastatic SLN diagnosed by fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and to discuss the location of the primary in these cases. METHODS: We have reviewed all lymph node FNACs diagnosed in a single tertiary hospital between 2010 and 2017 and we have included all cases of metastatic SLN. RESULTS: W

Tumor-to-Tumor Metastasis: Lung Adenocarcinoma as a Recipient of Metastasis from Renal Cell Carcinoma: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND The occurrence of metastasis from one neoplasm to another is known as tumor-to-tumor metastasis (TTM). It is a rare phenomenon in the natural history of any neoplasm, with approximately 100 cases reported in the literature to date. The lungs are the most frequent metastatic tumor donors and kidney cancer is the most common recipient. However, the opposite phenomenon (lung adenocarcinoma as a recipient of metastasis from renal carcinoma) has not been previously reported in the literature. CASE REPORT We present the case of a man with a history of multiple neoplasms. He had a diffuse
