BACKGROUND: Investigations of suspected cancer clusters are resource intensive and rarely identify true clusters: among 428 publicly reported US investigations during 1990-2011, only 1 etiologic cluster was identified. In 2013, the Cancer Data Registry of Idaho (CDRI) was contacted regarding a suspected cancer cluster at a worksite (Cluster A) and among an occupational cohort (Cluster B). A second primary breast cancer in the opposite breast can be either synchronous or metachronous. The majority are metachronous. A woman who has had breast cancer has a fivefold increase in risk for a second breast cancer. Primary intraosseous meningioma (PIM) is a rare subtype of primary extradural meningiomas. These rare ectopic meningiomas have been usually reported in the frontotemporal regions of the calvarium, orbits, and anterior cranial fossa. We report a case with bilateral tumors located in frontoparietal regions of calvarium. Our initial diagnosis was fibrous dysplasia but the lesions were seen to expand under follow-up. One was resected and the histopathological diagnosis was PIM. This is the second reported case of multiple PIM.

Eight families with two or more first-degree relatives affected with ovarian carcinoma were identified among a series of 138 consecutive ovarian cancer patients. History of breast cancer was reported in six of the eight families. PURPOSE: Because the capability to control squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck has improved recently, the phenomenon of multiple primary malignancies of that region is now recognized with increasing frequency. We reviewed cases of multiple primary squamous cell carcinomas of the hypopharynx and esophagus with regard to their frequency, incidence, and prognosis.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We reviewed 104 cases of hypopharyngeal cancer to determine (1) if and when esophageal cancer occurred, (2) the classification of multiple tumors as metachronous or synchronous, and (3) tumor histology.
