Six patients suffering from anaphylactoid reactions after infusion of pasteurized plasma (PP) or human serum albumin (HSA) were investigated. Clinical symptoms ranged from urticaria and hypotension to cardiac arrest. Immunoglobulin levels, especially of IgA, were normal, as were concentrations of complement factors C3, C4 and factor B. In skin and lymphocyte transformation tests patients, with the exception of one severely allergic to protein, did not react to the monomeric pure HSA. Venom from the brown recluse spider, Loxosceles reclusa, was capable of inactivation human C1-C7 in vitro. This inactivation occurred if venom was added to fresh adult human serum, human cord serum, or functionally pure specific human components. AIMS: To study the predictive value of 9 non-specific signs for congenital toxoplasmosis.
METHOD: The work was carried out as a prospective study comparing non-specific signs in 22 fetuses infected with toxoplasmosis and 59 fetuses free of the disease.
