To study the effects of pre-treating adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) with hyaluronic acid (HA) in a rat model of interstitial cystitis (IC). Fifty female rats were dividing into 5 groups: Sham treatment, IC, HA, ADMSCs, and HA-preconditioned ADMSCs. No treatments were administered in the sham and IC groups. Two weeks after treatment, rats were sacrificed and samples of blood and bladder tissue were collected for gene expression analysis, flow cytometry, histopathology and immunohistochemical staining. Preconditioning of ADMSCs with HA led to downregulation in inflammatory marke

BACKGROUND: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) are chronic conditions that significantly impact patients' quality of life. OSA involves recurrent upper airway obstruction during sleep, causing hypoxia and fragmented sleep linked to cardiovascular and metabolic issues. IC/BPS is defined by chronic pelvic pain and urinary symptoms; its pathophysiology is complex and poorly understood. The overlap in the prevalence of OSA and IC/BPS suggests a possible shared pathophysiological link. This study aimed to identify shared molecular mechanisms and d

We analyzed the symptoms composition of Interstitial Cystitis (IC), the regularity of the evolution of symptoms before and after treatment, and the visualization of the community network, to provide a reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment of Interstitial Cystitis. Based on the outpatient electronic case data of 552 patients with Interstitial Cystitis, we used a complex network community discovery algorithm, directed weighted complex network, and Sankey map to mine the data of the symptoms composition of Interstitial Cystitis, the evolution of symptoms before and after treatment and th

Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is a highly heterogeneous chronic and debilitating condition which effects millions of women and men in the United States. While primarily defined by urinary symptoms and pain perceived to be emanating from the bladder, IC/BPS patients frequently have co-occurring conditions and symptoms, many of which affect diverse body systems related to autonomic nervous system function. The impact on the autonomic system appears to stem from increased sympathetic innervation of the urinary tract, along with increased systemic sympathetic tone and decrea

PURPOSE: Interstitial Cystitis/ Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/BPS) is characterized by pelvic/bladder pain, associated with pelvic muscle tenderness, urgency, frequency, and dysuria. Prior studies show that transvaginal photobiomodulation (TV-PBM) reduces pain in women with chronic pelvic pain (CPP). Our objective was to obtain preliminary data on treatment effect and adherence, in women with IC/BPS who selected TV-PBM therapy for management of pelvic pain.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Before-and-after observational cohort study of women with IC/BPS who received TV-PBM in 17 US practices. Pain was meas

This study aimed to investigate the diagnostic values of urine cytokines in interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) and overactive bladder (OAB) patients, and to develop a novel diagnostic algorithm. Urine samples were collected from 40 IC/BPS, 40 OAB patients, and 30 controls. Commercially available multiplex immunoassays were used to analyze 31 targeted cytokines. Urine cytokine profiles were significantly different among study groups and controls. MIP-1β showed the highest sensitivity (92.2%) for identifying diseased study patients from controls. The cytokines with high diagnos

PURPOSE: The role of urodynamic study in the diagnosis and prognostication of interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is still controversial. This study evaluated the correlation of the baseline voiding dysfunctions and long-term treatment outcome in patients with non-Hunner's ulcer IC (NHIC).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 211 NHIC patients were enrolled. All patients underwent videourodynamic (VUDS) examination at baseline to identify their voiding conditions and received subsequent treatments. The primary endpoint was Global Response Assessment (GRA) at the interview. Secon

Repeated intravesical injections of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) have been shown to improve symptoms in patients with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS); however, there is a paucity of objective evidence of the effectiveness of this therapy. In this study, we investigated the changes in urinary markers after PRP treatment. Forty patients with IC/BPS who were refractory to conventional therapy received four injections of PRP at monthly intervals; 10 mL PRP solution with 2.5 times the peripheral blood platelet concentration was used. Urine levels of thirteen functional

OBJECTIVE: To compare opioid requirements before and after cystectomy for end-stage Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/BPS) using a statewide tracking system.
METHODS: Narcotic prescriptions were captured using the North Carolina Controlled Substance Reporting System for patients at a single institute undergoing cystectomy with urinary diversion (CWUD) for refractory, end-stage IC/BPS between 2010 and 2017. Values were documented for the year before and the year after surgery (excluding 30 days postoperatively to account for surgical pain) and converted to morphine equivalents (M

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is a chronic heterogeneous disorder characterized by persistent bladder-related pain, urinary symptoms, and substantial impairment in quality of life. Despite currently available multimodal treatment strategies, therapeutic outcomes vary among patients, highlighting the need to further investigate non-invasive approaches targeting inflammation, tissue repair, and sensory dysfunction. Low-energy extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) has been investigated as a non-invasive intervention with potential regenerative a

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Some patients with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) remain symptomatic despite prolonged intravesical hyaluronic acid (HA). We report a small retrospective pilot case series evaluating HA plus epidermal growth factor (HA/EGF) as salvage therapy in selected HA-refractory patients.
METHODS: HA nonresponders were identified from a multicenter routine-care IC/BPS program. Nonresponse was defined as Global Response Assessment (GRA) < +2 after at least 2 years of HA instillation. Patients electing HA/EGF received eight instillations over 6 months. Ou

Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) and fibromyalgia (FM) are chronic pain conditions frequently discussed within shared conceptual frameworks such as central sensitization. Despite this conceptual overlap, IC/BPS is clinically characterized by pelvic and urinary symptoms, whereas FM is associated with widespread pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance, and other systemic manifestations. Whether these differences are reflected in the organization of symptom-related language within patient-generated discourse remains insufficiently characterized. Patient-generated text related to IC/B

This study applied K-means cluster analysis to urinary biomarker profiles in interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) patients, aiming to provide a new perspective on disease classification and its clinical relevance. We retrospectively analyzed urine samples from 127 IC/BPS patients and 30 controls. The urinary levels of 10 inflammatory cytokines and three oxidative stress markers (8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosin [8-OHdG], 8-isoprostane, and total antioxidant capacity [TAC]) were quantified. K-means clustering was performed to identify biomarker-based patient subgroups. IC/BPS patients
