Family Organizations in Children's Mental Health Systems of Care: the Challenge of Maintaining Financial Sustainability.

Family-run organizations are an important source of support for families of children with serious emotional disturbance, yet little work has explored how these organizations sustain their work. The National Evaluation Team (NET) for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Children's Mental Health Initiative grant program interviewed 20 family organizations in Grant Year 2 and 22 organizations in Year 4 to assess their main funding sources, the adequacy of this funding to support the organization, and changes in their funding and financial sustainability over time. Burdens of family caregiving at the end of life.

A patient's ability to be cared for and to die at home is heavily dependent upon the efforts of family caregivers. Considerable stresses are associated with such caregiving, including physical, psychosocial and financial burdens. Research has shown that unmet needs and dissatisfaction with care can lead to negative outcomes for caregivers. While many family caregivers also report caregiving as life-enriching, some report that they would prefer alternatives to care at home, primarily because of these associated burdens. Little is known about which interventions are most effective to support fam

Job support by occupational therapists for people with developmental disabilities: two case studies.

The present report uses two cases to provide an overview of employment support by occupational therapists for people with developmental disabilities and investigates the roles occupational therapists should play and the support they should give. Case A was a man in his 30s with Asperger disorder who used a trial employment program and received on-the-job training, leading to regular employment. Case B was a man in his 40s with intellectual disability who used outreach supported employment and achieved financial stability through sheltered employment. These two cases suggest that occupational t

A qualitative design using semi-structured focus groups was used to obtain the perspectives of 41 methadone-maintained clients in Los Angeles, California. Sessions were recorded, transcribed, and content-analyzed. Attitudes of health care providers were considered critical factors for engaging clients in treatment programs. Other facilitators included incentives

Recent developments in home total parenteral nutrition.

Home parenteral nutrition (HPN) support has been an advancing therapy in the past 30 years. Patients who previously had no options to sustain their lives are now able to live at home, maintain employment, and continue with most daily activities. Although this therapy has been innovative and successful, it requires great financial and professional resources. The expense of HPN makes most patients dependent on third-party payment, and the complications can result in frequent hospitalizations and may be life-threatening. For these reasons, extensive training of the patient and caregivers is neces

Bereaved Parents' Perspectives on Quality Pediatric End-of-Life Care: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric end-of-life care profoundly impacts families, yet existing reviews on bereaved parents' experiences lack methodological rigor and comprehensive synthesis. Identifying key quality indicators from parents' perspectives is essential for improving care. OBJECTIVES: This scoping review synthesizes evidence on bereaved parents' views of high-quality pediatric end-of-life care, identifying critical domains and developing a thematic framework. METHODS: We conducted a scoping review adhering to PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Searches in MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, PsycArticles, and AMED

Crowding out of long-term care insurance: evidence from European expectations data.

Long-term care (LTC) is the largest insurable risk that old-age individuals face in most western societies. However, the demand for LTC insurance is still ostensibly small in comparison with the financial risk. One explanation that has received limited support is that expectations of either 'public sector funding' and 'family support' crowd out individual incentives to seek insurance. This paper aims to investigate further the aforementioned motivational crowding-out hypothesis by developing a theoretical model and by drawing on an innovative empirical analysis of representative European surve

Understanding pathways from primary health care to universal health coverage outcomes: a realist review.

INTRODUCTION: Primary Health Care (PHC) rooted in community empowerment, integrated service delivery, and multisectoral action is central to efforts toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC), yet little is known about how PHC reforms influence UHC outcomes across contexts. This review examines how PHC approaches affect population coverage, service coverage, and financial protection by identifying what works, for whom, under what circumstances, and why. METHODS: A realist review was conducted using studies from countries with the greatest gains in the UHC Service Coverage Index between 2000 and 2

Determinants of depression severity among university students in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa: socio-economic, food security and disaster-related predictors.

BACKGROUND: Mental health is increasingly recognised as a major public health concern among university students, particularly in low- and middle-income settings where financial insecurity, food access constraints, and environmental disruptions may exacerbate vulnerability. However, limited empirical evidence from South Africa has examined how these structural stressors jointly influence depression severity. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was administered to registered students at a university in KwaZulu-Natal (n = 445). Findings reflect associations within a single institution and s

METHODS: A systematic review was carried out following the Joanna Briggs guidelines. The English language studies published between 2000 and August 2024 were searched in seven databases, grey literature sources and references of the included studies. ACT To Sustain: Adoptive Cell Therapy To Sustain Access to Non-Commercialized Genetically Modified Cell Therapies.

Genetically modified cell therapies (GMCT), particularly immune effector cells (IEC) such as chimeric receptor antigen (CAR) T cells, have shown promise in curing cancer and rare diseases after a single treatment course. Following close behind CAR T approvals are GMCT based on hematopoietic stem cells, such as products developed for hemoglobinopathies and other disorders. Academically sponsored GMCT products, often developed in academic centers without industry involvement, face challenges in sustaining access after completion of early phase studies when there is no commercial partner invested
