Urinary tract infection (UTI) is common in preterm infants and may have long-term sequela, such as recurrent infections and renal scarring in older children. The Latin American Dialysis and Renal Transplantation Registry, funded in 1991, has collected data on patients on kidney replacement therapy since 1993 in the 20 countries members of the Latin American Society of Nephrology and Hypertension (SLANH). The training of national delegates and the joint cooperation between national societies, SLANH, and Pan American Health Organization has allowed the launch, continuity, and development of national registries. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a growing global health problem, with projections indicating a significant increase in its prevalence. The kidney failure risk equation (KFRE) has emerged as a valuable predictive tool to assess the risk of kidney failure in patients with CKD stages 3-5. This narrative review presents a comprehensive analysis of the KFRE's development, validation, and clinical applications, and highlights its role in predicting disease progression, guiding nephrology referrals, and planning vascular access creation.

A patient with systemic involvement, initially treated as tuberculosis, is presented in this report. There were only two painful subcutaneous nodules, from which we arrived at the correct diagnosis of histoplasmosis. The patient was attended by several experts in the fields of infectious diseases, nephrology and internal medicine, but the diagnosis was only possible after dermatological examination and skin biopsy. This case values multidisciplinary interaction between dermatologists and other medical areas for diagnosis of cases with atypical manifestations.
