Optimizing correction of coma aberration in keratoconus with a novel soft contact lens.

PURPOSE: To report on a second-generation prototype contact lens (modified lens) with enhanced optics to correct coma aberration and compare its performance with that of the prototype contact lens (conventional lens) used to optimise correction of coma aberration in keratoconus (KC). METHODS: Both lenses were designed as a set of standardised soft contact lenses (SCLs) with asymmetric powers along the posterior surface. The modified lens differs from the conventional lens in that the optical zone is decentred superiorly by 0.7 mm. The on-eye performance was compared between the SCLs and no-le

A 2020 Update on 20/20 X 2: Diplopia after Inadvertent Strabismus Surgery Complications.

The goals of successful strabismus surgery include the optimization of binocular potential through the establishment, reestablishment, or improvement of ocular alignment leading to a reduction or resolution of diplopia, as well as an improvement of compensatory head position or cosmesis. Fortunately, the incidence of new postoperative diplopia in patients without diplopia prior to strabismus surgery is extremely uncommon (less than 2%). Alternatively in a patient with preoperative diplopia that persists postoperatively, it is important to establish whether the diplopia is unchanged, increased,

The latest generation of intraocular lenses, the problem of the eye refraction after cataract surgery.

Nowadays cataract surgery is refractive surgery as well. Intraocular lens implantation is gold standard, but there is plenty types of intraocular lenses, monofocal, multifocal, accommodating, and toric. Problem is to pick up correct one according life style, profession, health status and age. The aim is review current possibilities in cataract, refractive surgery and aphakia management.

Change in refractive status of the patients undergoing phacoemulsification surgery.

This study was carried out with the objective of finding refractive status of patients undergoing phacoemulsification surgery for cataract extraction. Success of cataract surgery can be quantified with the improvement in visual acuity with least amount of refractive error. Prospective study of 44 patients was done pre operatively and with subsequent follow up in the first, third and eighth week post operatively. Pre and post operative evaluation was carried out in terms of visual acuity, refractive error and corneal curvature. Among patients undergoing surgery, 91.0% achieved visual acuity of

How keratoconus influences optical performance of the eye.

Using a statistical description of keratoconus (KC) topography, schematic eye models of various KC conditions are constructed to study their optical influence on visual performance. The cone shape, protruding height and extent, and distance from the visual zone are independently investigated with the three-dimensional optical eye-modeling and ray-tracing techniques. The subsequent spherical equivalent (SE), cylinder, together with residual high-order ocular aberrations, are examined and related to each separated variable. The results show that myopic nature of SE is greatly dominated by the lo

Emmetropisation, squint, and reduced visual acuity after treatment.

In a sample of children used to assess the value of optical correction of hypermetropia from the age of 6 months the refraction of the most hypermetropic meridian frequently became less than 3.5 D as the children grew. When this occurred, the incidence of squint was significantly less (p less than 0.001) and the last known acuity after treatment was significantly better (p less than 0.001) than when it did not. This process of emmetropisation appears to have been impeded by the consistent wearing of hypermetropic spectacle correction from the age of 6 months.

[Non-freeze epikeratophakia (live epikeratophakia)].

Instruments for the production of non-freeze epikeratophakia lenticules allow the surgeon to produce his own live lenticules from -35 to +25 dptr using the Barraquer-Krumeich-Swinger set. 29 myopic cases differ to the refractive target plus/minus 15% and reach contact lens visual acuity values after 2-5 weeks. 58 consecutive cases off epikeratophakia correction of aphakia result between 5 and 15% of the target. Optimal visual acuity is generally reached between 4 and 8 weeks postop. In 6 cases the epikeratophakia lenticule had to be removed and replaced.

Examining murine eye length asymmetry with spectral domain optical coherence tomography.

The mouse is an increasingly popular model for examining refractive development, however measuring axial length in the small mouse eye is challenging. We measured ocular axial dimensions with spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and examined how ocular dimensions vary with alignment of the SD-OCT system in a mouse model of lens-induced myopia. Refractive error, corneal radius of curvature, and ocular dimensions were measured in C57BL/6J mice from P25 to P46. Mice received monocular lens treatment with either a -10D (n = 14) or -30D lens (n = 13) at P28 or had no lens treatment
