This manuscript describes an outbreak of fatal toxoplasmosis in wallabies. Ten adult red necked wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus) were imported from New Zealand to the Virginia Zoo. Agglutination testing upon admission into quarantine showed all animals to be negative for antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii. Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) remains a significant problem in surgical patients. To address this, we prospectively studied all episodes of treated CDAD in surgical inpatients at the University of Virginia hospital from December 1996 through March 1998. We studied 50 strains of coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) isolated from 50 patients with hospital-acquired bacteraemia, identified by prospective surveillance at the University of Virginia Hospital between March 1981 and September 1982. Many trematode groups have a long history of systematic revision, which can make parasite identification a difficult task. The trematode parasites of muskrats are no exception. Here, we highlight the systematic issues associated with trematodes of muskrats (Ondatra zibethicus). Then, we demonstrate the utility of using both morphological and molecular tools to identify these parasites. The current study examined the impact of exposure to violence and neighborhood disadvantage on criminal recidivism among Black (n = 69) and White (n = 53) female juvenile offenders.
