Immune Effector Cell-Associated Neurotoxicity Syndrome After CAR T-Cell Therapy and Other Psychiatric Manifestations: A Review and Case Series.

Background/Objectives: Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has transformed the treatment of hematologic malignancies, achieving durable remissions in cases refractory to standard therapies. A potentially life-threatening complication is immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS), which poses significant challenges to clinical management. ICANS encompasses a range of neuropsychiatric symptoms, including delirium, mood disorders, psychosis, seizures, and cerebral edema. The psychiatric dimensions of ICANS remain underreported, and their interplay with neurologic ma

Youth horse-related injuries (2014-2024): a scoping review of epidemiological and disciplinary insights.

Although horse riding is hazardous and injuries are common, young riders regularly engage in horse-related activities. To our knowledge, there have been no syntheses on youth horse-related injuries published during the past decade that employ a multi- and interdisciplinary research agenda (M-IDR) and that incorporate both quantitative and qualitative methods. Therefore, this scoping review aimed to (1) review studies on horse-related injuries among children and adolescents and (2) identify methodological and paradigmatic trends according to M-IDR. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for System

Systemic Health Associations of Apical Periodontitis: A Systematic Review of Observational Studies.

Apical periodontitis (AP) is a chronic inflammatory condition of the periapical tissues, often caused by pulp necrosis. While primarily localized in the oral cavity, evidence suggests that AP may contribute to systemic inflammation, influencing conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, pregnancy complications, osteoporosis, and autoimmune disorders. This review examines the association between AP and various systemic health conditions. A systematic search of PubMed, Scopus, and EMBASE was conducted, focusing on observational studies reporting systemic outcomes in individuals with AP

Epidemiology and Management for Pediatric Chronic Wounds: A Systematic Review of the Current Literature.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic wounds affect approximately 10.5 million individuals annually in the United States. Although recent studies have highlighted a surge in chronic wound cases among younger populations, the collective burden of pediatric chronic wounds remains understudied. This study aims to elucidate the epidemiology and management of pediatric chronic wounds. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was conducted across Embase, PubMed, and Web of Science databases on articles published after 2000 that specified chronicity of wounds in pediatric patients. The exclusion criteria included

Proposed outcome measures for prospective clinical trials in juvenile idiopathic arthritis-associated uveitis: a consensus effort from the multinational interdisciplinary working group for uveitis in childhood.

OBJECTIVE: To develop a set of core outcome measures for use in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and longitudinal observational studies in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA)-associated uveitis. METHODS: The literature relating to outcome measures used in studies of uveitis in childhood and adolescence was reviewed. A set of core outcomes and domains was established using the Delphi process. This was reviewed by a representative multinational interdisciplinary working group. Nominal group technique consensus was reached on face and content validity of the range and content of the domains.

Pain-Related Social and Behavioral Changes: a Complex Interplay.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Behavioral lifestyle factors such as physical activity, stress, sleep, and nutrition are increasingly recognized as essential contributors to chronic pain. Their influence on chronic pain highlights its widespread, modifiable nature, affecting large population segments. This reinforces chronic pain as a significant public health issue and its socioeconomic impact and need for population-level prevention strategies. Pain is inherently subjective, and pain research traditionally relies on the self-reported pain score as a common primary outcome. This provides an incomplete mea

Capacity building models for managing multiple long-term conditions in low-and-middle-income countries: a systematic review and gap analysis.

BACKGROUND: The global prevalence of multiple long-term conditions (MLTCs) is increasing, challenging healthcare providers worldwide. In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), healthcare professionals face additional obstacles in managing MLTCs due to the presence of disease-specific guidelines. This issue is exacerbated by the limited emphasis on both pre-service and in-service training of healthcare professionals on MLTCs within LMICs. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review to synthesize the scientific evidence on training and educational initiatives on MLTCs for health professionals

Improving Patient Outcomes Following Total Knee Arthroplasty: Identifying Rehabilitation Pathways Based on Modifiable Psychological Risk and Resilience Factors.

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a commonly implemented elective surgical treatment for end-stage osteoarthritis of the knee, demonstrating high success rates when assessed by objective medical outcomes. However, a considerable proportion of TKA patients report significant dissatisfaction postoperatively, related to enduring pain, functional limitations, and diminished quality of life. In this conceptual analysis, we highlight the importance of assessing patient-centered outcomes routinely in clinical practice, as these measures provide important information regarding whether surgery and posto

Successful knowledge translation intervention in long-term care: final results from the vitamin D and osteoporosis study (ViDOS) pilot cluster randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Few studies have systematically examined whether knowledge translation (KT) strategies can be successfully implemented within the long-term care (LTC) setting. In this study, we examined the effectiveness of a multifaceted, interdisciplinary KT intervention for improving the prescribing of vitamin D, calcium and osteoporosis medications over 12-months. METHODS: We conducted a pilot, cluster randomized controlled trial in 40 LTC homes (21 control; 19 intervention) in Ontario, Canada. LTC homes were eligible if they had more than one prescribing physician and received services from

Nobody ever questions-Polypharmacy in care homes: A mixed methods evaluation of a multidisciplinary medicines optimisation initiative.

BACKGROUND: Nurse-led monitoring of patients for signs and symptoms associated with documented 'undesirable effects' of medicines has potential to prevent avoidable harm, and optimise prescribing. INTERVENTION: The Adverse Drug Reaction Profile for polypharmacy (ADRe-p) identifies and documents putative adverse effects of medicines commonly prescribed in primary care. Nurses address some problems, before passing ADRe-p to pharmacists and prescribers for review, in conjunction with prescriptions. OBJECTIVES: We investigated changes in: the number and nature of residents' problems as recorded

Current Status of Colorectal Cancer Screenings: Tailoring Them to Mississippi's Rural Geography, Demographics, Infrastructure and Community Needs.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major cancer problem not only in western nations, but also now even in the developing world such as the Global South (GS). Within the US, the outcomes are worse in resource-scarce Deep South (DS) states including Mississippi (MS). The irony is that CRC can be diagnosed in precancerous and early stages with CRC screening (CRCS) - thus can stop progression to CRC (improving the survival outcomes). This irony is due to the low CRCS uptakes in MS and DS. Why CRCS uptake remains low in MS and DS was recently reviewed by us ("How to Change the Tide of Bad News to a Succe
