Visual quality evaluation of topography-guided FS-LASIK based on phorcides for myopia and astigmatism.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical outcomes and visual quality after Phorcides planned Contoura topography-guided femtosecond laser-assisted excimer laser in situ keratomileusis (TOPO-G FS-LASIK) for myopia and astigmatism correction. METHODS: Non-randomized retrospective study. 38 eyes in the high ocular residual astigmatism (HORA, >0.75D) group and 44 eyes in the low ocular residual (LORA, <0.75D) group were treated, and the accuracy was evaluated based on the Phorcides planned Contoura TOPO-G FS-LASIK. Routine examinations and specific tests, such as ocular aberrations, optical quality an

Seven-year refractive outcomes comparing small incision lenticule extraction and femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis for myopia and myopic astigmatism.

This study aimed to compare the seven-year refractive outcomes of small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and femtosecond laser-assisted laser in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) for correction of myopia and myopic astigmatism. This retrospective cohort study included 97 eyes of 53 patients who had undergone SMILE or FS-LASIK for myopia seven years prior. Measured parameters included uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), and manifest refraction. There were no significant differences between the SMILE and FS-LASIK groups in logMAR UDVA, cylinder,

Relationship between postoperative residual refractive error and preoperative corneal stiffness in small-incision lenticule extraction.

PURPOSE: To explore the relationship between postoperative residual refractive error and preoperative corneal stiffness after small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE). SETTING: Hospital clinic. DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. METHODS: Corneal stiffness was evaluated using the stress-strain index (SSI). Associations between postoperative spherical equivalent (SE) and corneal stiffness were determined using longitudinal regression analysis after adjustment for sex, age, preoperative SE, and other variables. The cohort was divided into halves to compare risk ratios for residual refracti

Characterization of postoperative LASIK ectasia features on higher-order aberration excimer ablation maps.

BACKGROUND: To characterize anterior corneal higher-order aberration (HOA) excimer ablation map patterns in postoperative LASIK ectasia (POE) and to examine correlations between newly identified corneal HOA ablation map features of POE and known topographic indices. METHODS: Prospective multicenter non-interventional descriptive study. A total of 28 eyes from 22 POE patients were enrolled. The postoperative HOA ablation map was derived from Topolyzer Vario corneal imaging at the time of POE diagnosis. Features that recurred were identified and then analyzed. Correlations to Orbscan indices we

Interface blood as a new indication for flap lift after LASIK using the WaveLight FS200 femtosecond laser.

PURPOSE: To report a new indication for flap lift of interface blood using the WaveLight FS200 femtosecond laser (Alcon Laboratories, Inc., Fort Worth, TX). METHODS: The unique evacuation canal of the FS200 femtosecond laser allows blood from injured limbal vasculature to accumulate. In rare instances, blood extends from the canal into the flap interface, requiring a flap lift. All flap lifts were performed using the microscope in the laser suite on the FS200 femtosecond laser to remove postoperative flap interface blood in 3 eyes of 3 patients. RESULTS: All interface blood was removed and n

Bilateral femtosecond laser-enabled intrastromal astigmatic keratotomy to correct high post-penetrating keratoplasty astigmatism.

A 35-year-old man presented with bilateral high astigmatism following penetrating keratoplasties performed for advanced keratoconus. Femtosecond laser-enabled intrastromal astigmatic keratotomy was performed, resulting in a significant reduction in corneal astigmatism. At 4 months, the corneal astigmatism continued to decrease. The visual acuity, refraction, and serial corneal topographic data are presented.

PURPOSE: To study the relationship between preoperative keratometry and residual spherical equivalent (SE) after myopic laser-assisted subepithelial keratectomy (LASEK). SETTING: Vissum Madrid, Madrid, Spain. METHODS: This retrospective study comprised 1149 consecutive eyes that had LASEK to correct myopia. The relationship between preoperative keratometry and the 3-month postoperative SE was analyzed by linear regression. The same analysis was performed in the first decile (percentile 10) with the flattest keratometry readings, in the decile with the steepest readings, and in the quartiles
