The intracranial cisternal or supraoccipital punction in the sitting position, was undertaken in 523 cases, of which 329 presented increased intracranial pressure. The procedure must be done by experts, and was well tolerated. There were no cases of death, arterial hemorrhages or medullary lesions. In 451 cases CSF pressure was measured and CSF was extracted for laboratory examination. Pneumoencephalograms were undertaken with this method in 335 patients. The intracranial cisternal pressure in the sitting position is greater than the suboccipital or cervical cisternal pressure by 1.5 to 3cm H2

Biophotonics, a relatively new scientific field, applies optical or light-based techniques to biology and medicine. These approaches enable non-invasive visualization, monitoring, and characterization of biological tissues and processes, thereby supporting diagnostics, treatments, monitoring, imaging, and surgery. Biophotonic capabilities could be particularly valuable in veterinary medicine, where patients cannot verbally describe symptoms and where rapid, non-invasive assessment may reduce reliance on invasive sampling and, in selected cases, sedation or anesthesia. This perspective review e

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), with the most direct symptom of snoring, is a common disorder that leads to intermittent hypoxia and cardiovascular risk. Here, we present a wearable borophene/PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) composite film integrated into a closed-loop OSA monitoring and intervention system. The composite film exhibits a piezoelectric coefficient of 31.9 pC·N-1, achieving effective biomechanical signal transduction within ±5% performance degradation after 10 000 compression or bending cycles. When attached to the neck, the composite detects biomechanical signals with high fidelit

In recent years, with the advancement of precision medicine, oral health monitoring has become an important component in assessing human physiological indicators. However, due to the unique characteristics of the oral environment, such as high humidity, confined space, and complex conditions, traditional sensors often face challenges, including poor biocompatibility, frequent battery replacement, and size limitations. Moreover, high energy consumption in intraoral monitoring sensors leads to substantial maintenance costs for long-term wear. Therefore, the development of sensing systems with ex

Long-term and comfortable sleep monitoring is a core requirement for daily health management. However, existing sleep monitoring technologies fail to simultaneously achieve accurate sleep stage classification, wearing comfort, and direct monitoring of characteristic physiological signals. Here, we report a wearable sleep monitoring system (SMS) based on piezoelectric sensing and convolutional neural network (CNN) analysis. The system assesses sleep structure and quality by capturing characteristic eye movement signals and provides actionable recommendations for long-term sleep health managemen

Measurement of nocturnal intraocular pressure (IOP) is essential for glaucoma management, yet recumbent IOP fluctuations during sleep remain largely unmeasured outside the clinic. Although existing eye-worn wearable sensors enable noninvasive IOP monitoring, limitations in sensitivity, closed-eye performance, and overnight wearability restrict accurate assessment of nocturnal IOP changes under sleep conditions. Here, we present a soft contact lens sensor designed for continuous monitoring of nocturnal IOP in a home setting. The sensor integrates a compliant conductor-based inductive-capacitive

Accurate monitoring of respiratory rates is critical for early detection of a range of clinical conditions. However, standard manual counting or inadequate clinical monitoring often fails to provide reliable measurements. This study evaluated and validated the PneumoWave biosensor for respiratory rate measurement across a broad physiological range and different body postures (45°, 90°, and 180°) in both in vitro and in vivo settings. In vitro validation was performed using a SimMan ALS manikin operated at respiratory settings of 6-30 breaths per minute, with 10 s periods of simulated apnea. In

Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) after cardiac surgery is often managed as a transient inpatient arrhythmia, yet recurrent or silent atrial fibrillation (AF) after discharge may identify persistent atrial vulnerability. This issue is particularly relevant in cancer survivors, whose thrombotic and bleeding risks vary according to cancer activity, treatment exposure, thrombocytopenia, frailty and planned procedures. For this narrative review, PubMed/MEDLINE and Scopus were searched from inception to 16 June 2026, with Google Scholar used for supplementary citation tracking. A total of 50

BACKGROUND: Swallowing-induced anatomical motion can compromise the accuracy of head-and-neck radiotherapy, underscoring the need for proactive motion management. Because tongue motion precedes laryngeal displacement, it may serve as a predictive signal for swallowing onset.
OBJECTIVE: To develop and evaluate a real-time tongue-motion monitoring system and assess its utility for predicting swallowing-induced motion in radiotherapy.
METHODS: The system comprised a gas-pressure module that measures intra-oral pressure (a surrogate for tongue motion) and an IR-marker tracking module for larynge
