OBJECTIVE: To summarize the postoperative complications of reconstruction of mandible defect with titanium reconstruction plate.
METHODS: A total of 111 cases of the mandibular defect caused by various reasons and repaired by titanium reconstruction plate in the Department Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University from 2003 to 2012 were collected and followed up. METHODS: We undertook a prospective review of all children attending our hospital who sustained fractures whilst riding a Hoverboard. Data such as patient demographics, type of fracture sustained, treatment received, complications and outcome were collected.

A patient developed contact mucositis after being treated with a titanium nitride implant abutment. Patch testing disclosed a positive reaction to titanium nitride. After removal of the titanium nitride-coated abutment and placement of an uncoated abutment, all signs and symptoms disappeared. This clinical report suggests that titanium nitride-coated abutments may be a potential allergen in some patients.

CONCLUSIONS: Titanium proved to be a valuable alternative to ossicles in ossiculoplasty procedures. Complication rates are comparable to those obtained by other authors with titanium and nontitanium prostheses.
