Mental health-related knowledge, attitudes and behaviours in a cross-sectional sample of australian university students: a comparison of domestic and international students.

BACKGROUND: There are growing concerns about the mental health of university students in Australia and internationally, with universities, governments and other stakeholders actively developing new policies and practices. Previous research suggests that many students experience poor mental health while at university, and that the risk may be heightened for international students. Mental health-related knowledge, attitudes and behaviours are modifiable determinants of mental health and thus suitable targets for intervention. This study assessed the mental health-related knowledge, stigmatising

A randomized controlled trial of a peer and clinician led group program for borderline personality disorder.

Objective: Remission and recovery from borderline personality disorder (BPD) is difficult, yet achievable, yet not all people benefit. Peers with lived experience of recovery from BPD as co-therapists may increase engagement, reduce stigma and strengthen hopefulness. We evaluated a peer and clinician co-led group therapy (AIR Peers) for consumers with BPD.Methods: Eighty-three participants (88% female, M age = 36yrs) were randomized into either AIR Peers therapy (n = 43) or treatment as usual (TAU; n = 40). The intervention was co-designed by people with lived experience and clinicians. It inv

Impact of web-based breastfeeding education on breastfeeding self-efficacy and exclusive breastfeeding rates among primiparous mothers in iran: a quasi-experimental study.

INTRODUCTION: Exclusive breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to meet the nutritional needs of infants in early life. Web-based breastfeeding education platforms offer a modern solution to support primiparous mothers by providing structured, interactive content such as videos, podcasts, and learning assessments. In this study, an educational website was developed to deliver weekly sessions, track progress through quizzes, and send reminders to encourage participation. This study aimed to examine the effect of such a web-based program on the exclusive breastfeeding self-efficacy of pr

Participatory Intervention Development of a Peer-Guided Self-Help App for Anxiety Disorders: Mixed Methods Study.

BACKGROUND: Anxiety disorders affect approximately 27% of the global population, posing a major mental health challenge. Limited access to treatment due to resource constraints highlights the need for scalable solutions. Web-based self-help programs provide low-threshold access to evidence-based strategies. When guided by peers, these programs enhance engagement and acceptability by merging autonomy with support. Peer-guided self-help apps offer a cost-effective alternative to traditional care, reaching those who might otherwise remain untreated. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to describe the dev

Comparing physical activity practice, pain and psychological characteristics in individuals with fibromyalgia and individuals with low back pain.

BACKGROUND: Chronic primary low back pain (CLBP) and fibromyalgia (FM) have complex etiologies and management approaches. Further research is needed, particularly on subgroups like individuals with CLBP who also report signs and symptoms of FM (CLBP/FM+) to better understand their pain mechanisms and clinical profile. Examining psychological, pain-related characteristics, and physical activity could help identify subgroups of individuals with CLBP/FM+ and guide the development of targeted interventions. This study aimed to compare physical activity practice, pain and psychological characterist

Investigating the effect of guided self-help through social networks on post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms and resilience of mothers with children suffering from febrile seizures.

BACKGROUND: Seizure caused by fever is the most common seizure disorder in childhood, which occurs in children between 6 months and 5 years, with a temperature above 38 degrees Celsius. Mothers as primary caregivers are more involved in this challenge. Most of them do not have enough knowledge about this disease, and some of them suffer from post-traumatic stress symptoms due to seizures in their children, such as avoiding situations reminiscent of seizures, disturbing thoughts and symptoms of hyperarousal, and symptoms of loss of resilience, such as lack of personal competence, inability to s

A guided Internet-delivered intervention for adjustment disorders: A randomized controlled trial.

Evidence of self-help interventions for adjustment disorder (AjD) is limited. This study aims at testing in a randomized controlled trial (RCT) the effectiveness of a disorder-specific, Internet-delivered cognitive-behavioural therapy (ICBT) intervention for AjD. Participants were randomly allocated to either an ICBT with brief weekly telephone support (n = 34) or a waiting list group (n = 34). Beck's inventories for depression and anxiety were used as primary outcomes. The secondary outcomes were AjD symptoms, post-traumatic growth, positive and negative affect, and quality of life. In all, 7

Self-skin Examination for Skin Cancer Detection in High-risk Populations: A Diagnostic Accuracy Study and Implications for Cancer Education.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Aquatic populations experience high cumulative ultraviolet radiation exposure and elevated skin cancer risk. Self-skin examination is widely promoted within cancer education strategies; however, its diagnostic accuracy in high-risk groups remains unclear. METHOD: Adults (≥ 18 years) participating in surfing or outdoor swimming (≥ 1 h/week) underwent full-body skin examination by an accredited skin cancer doctor. Prior to examination, participants identified any lesion(s) of concern, reflecting real-world self-detection. Suspicious lesions were biopsied or excised, with his

Prediction of adaptive self-regulatory responses to arthritis pain anxiety in exercising adults: does pain acceptance matter?

BACKGROUND: Exercising for ≥ 150 min/week is a recommended strategy for self-managing arthritis. However, exercise nonadherence is a problem. Arthritis pain anxiety may interfere with regular exercise. According to the fear-avoidance model, individuals may confront their pain anxiety by using adaptive self-regulatory responses (eg, changing exercise type or duration). Furthermore, the anxiety-self-regulatory responses relationship may vary as a function of individuals' pain acceptance levels. OBJECTIVES: To investigate pain acceptance as a moderator of the pain anxiety-adaptive self-regulator
