Lobster Claw Syndrome is a type of syndactyly, where abnormalities in the hand-foot region as well as the orodental region occur. A case of a 14-year old boy with this syndrome is presented here.

We report on a child, born to a consanguineous parents, who presented with a multiple congenital anomalies (MCA) pattern consisting of severe hypertrichosis, macrostomia, ectropion, and atrophic skin. To our knowledge this is the third case with this combination of defects. The two previous cases were reported by Barber et al. [Syndrome Identification VIII(1):6-9, 1982], and David et al. [Am J Med Genet 41:192-195, 1991].

Report on a rarity, consisting in the anatomic connexion of a parotid cyst with serous fluid and a congenital dysontogenesis near the ear. The latter will reduced to remains of the ectoderm of the first branchial cleft, remaining during the migration of the ear-"anlage" to the upper dorsal direction and interpreted as equivalent of a neck-ear-fistula. During embryogenesis apparently happens a collision between the remains of ectoderm and the ducts of the parotid-"anlage", developing from the buccal cavity. Clinical aspects, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment were discussed. The ma

An 8-year-old girl with growth failure and multisystem involvement was admitted to the Institute of Medical Genetics at Henan Provincial People's Hospital in May 2022. She presented with craniofacial abnormalities, language delay, and psychomotor retardation, suggestive of Sensenbrenner syndrome. Whole-exome sequencing and Sanger sequencing performed on the family revealed that the proband carried two novel compound heterozygous mutations in the WDR19 gene: c.1574A>G (p.Asn525Ser) and c.196G>A (p.Gly66Arg), inherited from her father and mother, respectively. Bioinformatics analysis indicated t

Pyloric atresia is a rare congenital condition marked by obstruction of the gastric outflow because the pylorus is absent or severely narrowed. Blistering and fragility of the skin and mucous membranes are symptoms of the hereditary condition epidermolysis bullosa (EB). It is highly uncommon for pyloric atresia and epidermolysis bullosa to co-occur, and this presents substantial diagnostic and treatment difficulties. We describe a case of a newborn who was born with pyloric atresia and epidermolysis bullosa, focusing on the clinical presentation, the diagnostic procedure, and the surgical ther

OBJECTIVE: To report the efficacy and long-term outcomes of treating the skin defects of aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) with cryopreserved amniotic membrane (AM).
METHOD: Human amnion was obtained from the caesarean delivery of a full-term healthy pregnancy and processed in a sterile laminar flow hood, and cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen. The structure of the AM was investigated histologically and the viability of the epithelial cells was assessed after cryopreservation and compared with fresh AM and with AM preserved in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) at 4°C. The cryopreserved AM was applied

In this study, we retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of a newborn with aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) to provide insights for diagnosing and treating the disease. It is believed that ACC with an intact skull and a skin defect diameter of less than 2 cm can be treated conservatively. The main strategies include local disinfection and regular dressing changes to promote epithelial regeneration. The lesion can heal over weeks or months through epithelization adjacent to the defect tissue, resulting in a healed contracture scar with a smooth, hairless surface that can be surgically removed

Noonan, Costello and Cardio-facio-cutaneous syndromes belong to a group of disorders named RASopathies due to their common pathogenetic origin that lies on the Ras/MAPK signaling pathway. Genetics has eased, at least in part, the distinction of these entities as they are presented with overlapping clinical features which, sometimes, become more pronounced with age. Distinctive face, cardiac and skeletal defects are among the primary abnormalities seen in these patients. Skeletal dysmorphisms range from mild to severe and may include anterior chest wall anomalies, scoliosis, kyphosis, short sta

How should the medical team approach care for a very preterm infant with a significant painful and life-limiting condition when the parents wish to pursue all life-sustaining therapies? Here, we discuss a case of an infant born at 28 weeks' gestation with a diagnosis of Carmi syndrome (junctional epidermolysis bullosa and pyloric atresia). While the medical team felt that a do-not-resuscitate order and redirection to comfort care were appropriate, the family held on to hope for recovery and wished to continue with full intensive care measures.

BACKGROUND: Membranous aplasia cutis congenita (MACC) presents at birth characterized by oval epidermis defect. Skin lesions with MACC have various clinic manifestations. In recent years, the usefulness of trichoscopy (scalp dermoscopy) has been reported for hair loss diseases. However, the dermoscopic features of MACC were mostly reported by case reports.
OBJECTIVES: To summarized the obvious dermoscopic characteristics of MACC.
MATERIALS & METHODS: These 56 cases met the clinical diagnostic criteria for MACC without forceps delivery complications or other birth injuries. To find the dermos

Costello syndrome (CS) is an autosomal dominant disorder caused by pathogenic variants in HRAS. Craniosynostosis is a known feature of other RASopathies (Noonan and cardiofaciocutaneous syndromes) but not CS. We describe four individuals with CS and craniosynostosis and present a summary of all previously reported individuals with craniosynostosis and RASopathy.

INTRODUCTION: Aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) is a rare congenital abnormality characterized by the absence of a portion of skin at birth which most commonly involves the scalp and can affect the galea, the pericranium, the bone, and the dura mater. It can be an isolated condition or associated with other disorders.
CASE REPORT: We present a case of ACC with a large defect of the scalp and the underlying bone treated with the use of Integra® Dermal regeneration template. At 5 months of follow-up, the wound is completely healed and the bony defect greatly reduced. Contraction of the area of alop

Aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) is a congenital disorder characterized by localized or generalized absence of skin. Bullous aplasia cutis congenita (BACC) is a rare clinical subtype that has few documented reports in the literature. Herein, we present a new case of BACC in which the bulla was unruptured at birth.

Noonan syndrome represents a heterogeneous group of genetic disorders caused by mutations in genes of the RAS/MAPK pathway. Related syndromes include cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome, Noonan syndrome with multiple lentigines and Costello syndrome. The common phenotypic features of Noonan syndrome include facial dysmorphisms, short stature, congenital heart defects and genitourinary abnormalities. These and other findings as well as features of related disorders are discussed. In addition we briefly review clinical diagnosis and prenatal findings of these syndromes and genetic counseling implicati

The RASopathies are a group of syndromes that have in common germline mutations in genes that encode components of the RAS/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway and have been a focus of study to understand the role of this pathway in development and disease. These syndromes include Noonan syndrome (NS), NS with multiple lentigines (NSML), neu-rofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), Costello syndrome (CS), cardio-facio-cutaneous (CFC) syndrome, neurofibromatosis type 1-like syndrome (NFLS) and capillary malformation-arteriovenous malformation syndrome (CM-AVM). These disorders affect multiple sy
