BACKGROUND: Distraction osteogenesis (DO) is a critical craniofacial technique used to address congenital and acquired skeletal deficiencies through gradual bone elongation. While metallic devices have been traditionally employed for both mandibular distraction (MD) and posterior cranial vault distraction (PCVD), resorbable distractors offer several advantages, including elimination of secondary hardware removal procedures and decreased risk of dural violation. This systematic review evaluates the safety, technical feasibility, and operative outcomes of resorbable distractors in PCVD and MD.

BACKGROUND: Hand fractures constitute 20% of hand injury patients who apply to emergency services. Conservative approaches are satisfactory in the majority of the cases. However, the minority group in need of surgery reaches a serious number of patients considering the frequency of these injuries. Retrospective questioning of the indications of the performed surgeries is a proper way of understanding the decisional process for surgery.
PATIENTS/METHODS: Patients treated for hand fractures were retrospectively reviewed. Patient gender, age, finger/fingers involved, soft tissue involvement, tre

OBJECTIVE: Pediatric neurosurgery sets particularly high standards for indications, technique, and the risk profile of surgical procedures. These standards include precise targeting procedures due to the complex anatomy of the developing brain, especially in conditions such as epilepsy, brain tumors, hydrocephalus, and cystic lesions. The Leksell G frame, a stereotactic device designed for high-accuracy localization, has been utilized across various neurosurgical procedures in both adults and children. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and outcomes of stereotactic procedure

INTRODUCTION: Total hip arthroplasty in young patients can cause problems when it comes to choosing a suitable implant. The Birmingham Mid-Head Resection prosthesis (BMHR) offers the option of preserving bone stock despite its poor quality in the femoral neck. Femoral neck fractures are a known complication of hip resurfacing prostheses and the main reason for revision surgery. Retaining the femoral implant may cause difficulties in osteosynthesis carried out with implants habitually used for intertrochanteric or femoral neck fractures (e.g., a screw-plate device or a cephalomedullary nail) [2

BACKGROUND Non-union of distal tibia fractures is a challenge in orthopedic surgery and can be due to open fractures, osteopenia, infection, or failure of surgical devices. This retrospective study aimed to describe 8 patients with non-union of distal tibial fractures treated with distal tibial nail and screw fixation. MATERIAL AND METHODS According to the Gustilo-Anderson classification, 3 patients had type 2 open fractures, 1 had a type 3 open fracture, 1 had a type 1 open fracture, and 3 had closed fractures. The Association of Osteosynthesis AO classified 4 patients as A2, 2 as B2, and 2 a

INTRODUCTION: Swine are often regarded as having analogous facial skeletons to humans and therefore serve as an ideal animal model for translational investigation. However, there is a dearth of literature describing the pertinent ancillary procedures required for craniomaxillofacial research. With this in mind, our objective was to evaluate all necessary procedures required for perioperative management and animal safety related to experimental craniomaxillofacial surgical procedures such as orthotopic, maxillofacial transplantation.
METHODS: Miniature swine (n = 9) were used to investigate pe

ACL rupture is a common injury in recreational and professional athletes. Most ACL tears occur in combination with an ALL lesion. Combined reconstruction of the ACL and ALL reduces re-rupture rates by up to 3.1 times compared to isolated ACL reconstruction using hamstring tendons; however, it has not yet been established as the surgical standard. The purpose of this study was to investigate if patients benefit from ACL+ALL reconstruction in terms of translation and rotation stability, return to activity and return to sport, as well as to assess any potential negative effects of this technique.

BACKGROUND: Tearing of the proximal hamstring tendon is a common injury in athletes for which surgical repair is being increasingly utilized. The described techniques for endoscopic repair employ a simple or mattress suture configuration. We hypothesize that the incorporation of a running modified whipstitch may allow for increased suture purchase and sturdier tendon fixation.
INDICATIONS: Patients with partial tears, 2-tendon tears and >2 cm retraction, or 3-tendon tears refractory to conservative management are typically indicated for surgery.
TECHNIQUE DESCRIPTION: In the prone position,

Chance fractures by definition are a type of flexion-distraction injury with concomitant vertebral body fracture. Although uncommon in the pediatric population, they are associated with motor vehicle accidents and typically involve the thoraco-lumbar spine. Injury occurs when the spine rotates about a fixed axis, such as a lap belt. Our case reports the management of a five-year-old girl involved in a head-on collision who suffered a purely ligamentous flexion-distraction injury (Chance-type injury, without bone involvement) at the L2-L3 vertebral level. Previously these injuries were managed

RATIONALE: The treatment of osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) requires a multidisciplinary approach to maximize function and reduce fracture incidence. The aim of this case report was to discuss an alternative surgical approach to stabilize a corrective osteotomy using the Fassier Duval (FD) system in an OI patient.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 20-year-old OI woman presented with left thigh pain, gait disturbance, and bilateral genu valgus deformities.
DIAGNOSES: Physical examination and standing radiographs revealed bilateral genu valgum with previous fixation implants in the femoral and the left tibia.

Subcutaneous extrusion of penile prosthesis cylinders beneath the glans penis is an unusual but difficult complication of penile prosthesis. Without surgical repair, extrusion, infection, and corporeal fibrosis may ensue. Twenty-eight patients with distal corporeal extrusion were reviewed to identify the optimum treatment outcome for these penile prosthesis complications. Records of 28 men with subcutaneous distal penile prosthesis cylinder extrusion were reviewed. Mean age was 56.2 y. Etiology of erectile dysfunction was diabetes mellitus in 11, vasculogenic in 10, Peyronie's disease in five,

PURPOSE: Infection rates following ankle fractures are as high as 19% in selected material and is the most common complication following this type of surgery, with potential catastrophic consequences. The purpose of this study was to test a regime of intermittent pneumatic compression, a compression bandage and a compression stocking and its effect on the rate of wound complications. The hypothesis was that compression could lower the infection rate from 20 to 5%.
METHODS: We performed a randomized, controlled, non-blinded trial, including 153 adult patients with unstable ankle fractures. Pat
