Tracheobronchomalacia is an uncommon acquired disorder of the central airways. Common symptoms include dyspnea, constant coughing, inability to raise secretions and recurrent respiratory infections. Evaluation includes an inspiratory-expiratory chest computed tomography (dynamic CT), an awake functional bronchoscopy and pulmonary function studies. Here, we report the case of an 84-year-old woman with acute mechanical intestinal obstruction (AMIO) who was admitted to our Emergency Department. A novel biodegradable chitin hernia patch was prepared by acetylation of chitosan fabric in our study. Physicochemical properties, cell compatibility and biodegradability of the chitin patch were quantified. Histopathological study of the functional experiment showed that this newly designed hernia patch promoted collagen deposition and neovascularization by significantly promoting the secretion of FGF1 and TGF-β1 in the early postoperative (P<0.01). Perineal hernia (PH) is a rare complication following laparoscopic abdominoperineal resection (APR) for rectal cancer. We present a case report of perineal hernia after laparoscopic APR and discuss its management. The patient was a 77-year-old man who was diagnosed with lower rectal cancer. He underwent laparoscopic APR and bilateral lateral lymph node dissection. Two months after the surgery, pain and bulging in the perineal region developed, and PH was diagnosed by CT. The aim of the present study was to describe and assess a new method of fixation using a self-adhesive prosthesis (Adhesix(™)) in laparoscopic ventral rectopexy (LVR). Fournier's gangrene is the necrotizing fasciitis of perianal, genitourinary, and perineal regions. Herein, we present a case of scrotal Fournier's gangrene as a postoperative complication of inguinal hernia repair. A 51-year-old male with giant indirect hernia is presented. OBJECTIVES: To present a novel technique to remove intravesical polypropylene mesh through a single laparoscopic port placed directly into the bladder.
METHODS: A Triport single-site access system was placed transvesically and carbon dioxide was used for insufflation of the bladder. A combination of straight and articulating laparoscopic instruments was used to dissect the mesh away from the bladder mucosa and transect each end for complete removal of foreign bodies. We describe a case of small bowel obstruction due to prosthetic mesh migration. A 67-year-old male, who had undergone prosthetic repair of inguinal hernia 3 years before, was admitted for a mechanical small bowel obstruction. The initial management of bilateral abductor vocal cord paralysis is usually tracheostomy. It is proposed that a reversible endoscopic vocal cord lateral fixation would avoid this morbid procedure. The operation is performed by laryngoscopy utilizing the endo-extralaryngeal suture technique of Lichtenberger. Two polypropylene sutures are looped over one of the paralyzed vocal cords and brought out through the neck skin. A small incision is made, and the sutures are secured in the sternohyoid muscle.
