This study describes the craniofacial features of achondroplastic dwarfism in the paintings of Velázquez. In a PubMed search, using [Velázquez] and [dwarf], 13 titles were found. In a Google Image search, [Velázquez] and [dwarf] retrieved 5 paintings. The craniofacial manifestations of the dwarfs depicted in the paintings were analyzed. Frontal bossing, antimongoloid slant, depressed nasal bridge (saddle nose), bulbous tip, malar hypoplasia, malocclusion, and chin asymmetry were observed. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this article is to present the imaging findings of skeletal and brain abnormalities in thanatophoric dwarfism, a lethal form of dysplastic dwarfism.
CONCLUSION: The bony abnormalities associated with thanatophoric dwarfism include marked shortening of the tubular bones and ribs. We report on a 9 2/12 year old girl with pericentric inversion of the X-chromosome. It was diagnosed accidentally by a chromosome-analysis led through because of small stature. She bears a strong phenotypic resemblance to her mother (normal chromosomes), carrier of the pericentric inversion however is the phenotypically normal father. The breakpoint of the X-chromosome not lying within the critical region suggests that the patient will neither suffer a gonadal dysfunction. Both short stature and phenotypic dysmorphic features have familial cause.

We have presented the salient points of managing achondroplastic dwarfs in the operating room. In presenting our experience in dealing with this group of patients we hope that we will make the tasks of those who care for these patients easier and help focus their attention on those problems that are more likely to occur.

A collection of 893 historical picture postcards from 1900 to 1935, depicting dwarfs and giants, was analysed from medical and psychosocial viewpoints. In conditions such as 'bird headed dwarfism', achondroplasia, cretinism, so-called Aztecs or pinheads, Grebe chondrodysplasia, and acromegalic gigantism, the disorder could be diagnosed easily. The case of a Japanese female infant with thanatophoric dwarfism, a triplet, is reported. The diagnosis was made at 18 weeks' gestation. Triplets were delivered at 30 weeks' gestation by cesarean section. Two infants, both males, were normal; the female with dwarfism died of respiratory distress 34 min after delivery. This is the first known case of one fraternal triplet being affected by thanatophoric dwarfism.
