Frequency and Severity of Post-Procedure Bleeding Events Following Dental Extractions Completed in Patients on Heparin Therapy.

INTRODUCTION: Despite the existence of clear management protocols for patients treated with warfarin, direct-acting oral anticoagulants, and anti-thrombotic medications requiring dental extractions, guidelines for patients on injectable anticoagulants or heparins are limited. This absence of advice for dentists and doctors results in potential confusion about the safety of these dental procedures, impacting timely patient care. METHODS: A prospective, observational study was completed at two Australian hospital-based dental clinics to determine the frequency and severity of bleeding events, w

Goldenhar Syndrome and Its Clinical Manifestation With Dentofacial Considerations: A Case Report.

Goldenhar syndrome, a variant of hemifacial microsomia, is a rare congenital condition characterized by mandibular hypoplasia, epibulbar dermoids, preauricular tags, and vertebral anomalies. This article discusses the case of a young boy presenting with classical signs of Goldenhar syndrome along with bilateral mandibular second premolar (BMSP) agenesis. While this syndrome can lead to significant physical and functional difficulties, timely recognition and tailored management are pivotal in enhancing the patient's quality of life and long-term health outcomes.

Relationship Between the Morphology of Oral Membranous Substances and Oral Wetness in Older Individuals Undergoing Long-Term Tube Feeding in Japan.

AIMS: Oral membranous substances in tube-fed patients undergo temporal morphological changes, increasing the risk of asphyxiation. While xerostomia is hypothesized to influence these alterations, its precise relationship with oral wetness and specific morphological stages remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate oral wetness as an indicator of xerostomia and predictor of membranous substance formation. METHODS AND RESULTS: This study included 18 older tube-fed patients. Following initial oral care, comprising tooth surface and oral mucosa cleaning, we measured tongue dorsum wetness at
