PURPOSE: Performing restaging transurethral bladder resection (reTURB) for high-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) reduces the risk of recurrence and tumour understaging. Management of residual high-grade papillary Ta or T1 after reTURB has changed this last 10years in international recommendations. This study aimed to compare the recurrence free survival according to the different management procedures performed.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients who underwent reTURB for initial high-risk NMIBC between 2011 and 2020 were included. Patients with residual high-grade papillary Ta or

The aim of this review is to provide information on evidence-based therapy and aftercare strategies of low-risk bladder cancer. For low-grade non-muscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma of the bladder (LG-NMIB), active surveillance (AS) is recommended in international guidelines as a treatment alternative to repetitive transurethral bladder tumor resection (TURB). The background to these recommendations is the fact that (1) potentially less aggressive LG-NMIBs can be detected with a high degree of accuracy by experienced clinicians, (2) the rate of progression into invasive or high-grade bladder

Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) remains the foundation of nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) diagnosis and treatment. The article covers preop evaluation (history, imaging, vesical imaging-reporting and data system, multiparametric MRI, office cystoscopy, and biomarkers), anesthesia/energy choices to limit obturator reflex/perforation, and operative technique using enhanced cystoscopy and selective en bloc resection (EBRT). It stresses meticulous specimen handling, immediate use of intravesical chemotherapy, and indications for second-look TURBT. Despite progress, incom

CONTEXT: Repeat transurethral resection (reTUR) is a guideline-recommended treatment strategy in high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) patients treated with transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT); however, the impact of recent procedural/technological developments on reTUR outcomes has not been assessed yet.
OBJECTIVE: To assess the outcomes of reTUR for NMIBC in the contemporary era, focusing on whether temporal differences and technical advancement, specifically, photodynamic diagnosis and en bloc resection of bladder tumor (ERBT), affect the outcomes.

INTRODUCTION: Intravesical sequential gemcitabine - docetaxel (Gem/Doce) has emerged as an important chemotherapeutic regimen in the management of non - muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). It holds particular clinical significance in the context of high-risk NMIBC (HR-NMIBC) that either fails standard Bacillus Calmette - Guérin (BCG) immunotherapy or when BCG is contraindicated or unavailable. The combination leverages two cytotoxic agents with complementary mechanisms to achieve tumor eradication while aiming to preserve the bladder.

PURPOSE: Non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) is primarily treated with intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) immunotherapy or chemotherapy. While these therapies effectively reduce tumor recurrence and progression, their impact on male reproductive health remains underexplored. This review synthesizes current evidence on the reproductive effects of intravesical therapies in men with NMIBC.
METHODS: A structured PubMed search was conducted to identify studies evaluating the effects of intravesical therapy on male reproduction. Studies published in English between 2000 and 2025 wer

INTRODUCTION: Intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is the standard treatment for high- and intermediate-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Despite its 50-year history of use, there remains a paucity of data regarding infections associated with intravesical BCG immunotherapy in real-world clinical practice. Thus, this study aimed to assess the clinical outcomes of BCG infections in a high-volume center and systematically review the literature on the topic.
EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: We retrospectively reviewed the records of patients who had experienced BCG infections following

Bladder cancer remains a leading cause of cancer death worldwide and is associated with substantial impacts on patient quality of life, morbidity, mortality, and cost to the healthcare system. Gross hematuria frequently precedes the diagnosis of bladder cancer. Non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) is managed initially with transurethral resection of a bladder tumor (TURBT), followed by a risk stratified approach to adjuvant intravesical therapy (IVe), and is associated with an overall survival of 90%. However, cure rates remain lower for muscle invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) owing to a v

OBJECTIVE: To explore if switching intravesical chemotherapeutic agents is beneficial in short-term recurrences of high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) following the failure of preceding intravesical therapy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: From June 2010 to October 2015, 205 patients with NMIBC who experienced tumor recurrence within a year after receiving first-line intravesical chemotherapy (IVC) were classified into two groups. After a second complete transurethral resection (TUR) process, we immediately altered the intravesical instillation agent for 107 patients (group A). In con

INTRODUCTION: Approximately 75% of bladder cancer cases are non-muscle invasive at diagnosis. Drug development for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) has historically lagged behind that of other malignancies. No treatment has demonstrated the ability to overcome drug resistance that ultimately leads to recurrence and progression. Gene therapy is emerging as a promising option for patients with NMIBC.
AREAS COVERED: This review summarizes the clinical application of gene therapy in NMIBC management and discusses recent clinical trials involving the adenoviral vector-based treatment nad

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Intravesical mitomycin C (MMC) instillations are recommended to prevent recurrence of intermediate-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (IR-NMIBC); however, the optimal regimen and dose are uncertain. Our aim was to assess the effectiveness of adjuvant MMC and compare different MMC regimens in preventing recurrence.
METHODS: We performed a comprehensive search in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science in November 2023 for studies investigating recurrence-free survival (RFS) among patients with IR-NMIBC who received adjuvant MMC. Prospective trials with different MMC r

BACKGROUND: Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) maintenance therapy is the standard adjuvant treatment of high- and intermediate-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). However, the problems of shortages and the adverse effects, both local and systemic, that it causes lead to the search for alternatives with devices that improve the penetration of intravesical chemotherapeutics.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Prospective observational study was conducted from August 2018 to August 2022. Patients diagnosed with intermediate and high-risk NMIBC without CIS who received one of the following three tr

BACKGROUND: Devices that increase the penetration of intravesical chemotherapeutic agents have been developed as alternatives to the use of bacillus Calmette-Guérin, in short supply at a time of increasing global incidence of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). We performed a prospective observational study to compare 2 of these devices in the treatment of patients with high- and intermediate-risk NMIBC. The primary endpoint was the recurrence-free rate. Secondary endpoints were the rate of progression and adverse events.
METHODS: After undergoing transurethral bladder resection, 98 p
