Chicken bone-induced ileal perforation peritonitis mimicking duodenal perforation peritonitis: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Foreign body ingestion can lead to bowel perforation and peritonitis. We present a case of a 54-year-old male who ingested a chicken bone, resulting in ileal perforation that mimicked duodenal perforation peritonitis. CASE PRESENTATION: The patient has a history of peptic ulcer disease and regularly used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs over the counter, adding more evidence to the provisional diagnosis of duodenal perforation. Exploratory laparotomy revealed the ileal perforation and the chicken bone was successfully removed. Wedge resection of the perforated segment and i…

[Management of meconium peritonitis: a remarkable case of idiopathic meconium peritonitis diagnosed antenatally].

Meconium peritonitis is an inflammatory peritonitis induced by meconium extruding into the peritoneal cavity through a perforation of the fetal intestine. Antenatal diagnosis is possible. Prognosis depends on the pathology having caused perforation. This is often unknown. The objectives of this article are to analyze the contribution of antenatal investigations to estimating neonatal prognosis of meconium peritonitis, and to define optimal management. We describe a case of meconium peritonitis diagnosed in utero with particularly severe ultrasound presentation suggesting a potentially lethal c…

Cat-bite peritonitis: Pasteurella multocida peritonitis following feline contamination of peritoneal dialysis tubing.

We report a case of a 55-year-old woman with end-stage renal disease undergoing intermittent peritoneal dialysis who developed peritonitis secondary to an infection with Pasteurella multocida resulting from a cat bite or cat scratch penetrating her peritoneal dialysis tubing. This case points out the potential importance of household pets as a source of peritoneal contamination.

Chlamydia Peritonitis Mimicking Juvenile Carcinomatous Peritonitis Diagnosed by Exploratory Laparoscopy: A Case Report.

Chlamydia trachomatis infections may occur in multiple organs, including the lungs, lymph nodes, peritoneal cavity, and genitourinary system … operation. Based on this result, we diagnosed this patient with C. trachomatis infection. Chlamydia peritonitis should be a differential diagnosis for cancer peritonitis in juvenile patients with abnormal ascites. Exploratory laparoscopy should help confirm the pathological diagnosis.

Comparison between generalised peritonitis and parietal fibrinous peritonitis in cows after caesarean section.

BACKGROUND: Parietal fibrinous peritonitis (PFP) and generalised peritonitis (GP) are two postoperative complications in cows, characterised by fluid and fibrin accumulation throughout the peritoneum (GP) or in an encapsulated cavity (PFP). Unlike GP, PFP is scarcely documented. METHODS: Twenty-one GP cases and 12 PFP cases were confirmed by ultrasound in cows referred to the Veterinary Clinic (Liège University) for complications after caesarean section. All cows underwent a standardised examination protocol. Blood samples were analysed for metabolic and inflammatory markers. Bacteriology was…

[Tuberculous peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis].

We report a patient in Automatic Peritoneal Dialysis (APD) with tuberculous peritonitis by possible peritoneal infection due to the proximity between fallopian tube and the left ovary, a peritoneal liquid culture was constantly negative. The patient presented a bad clinic evolution. Her only medical history was hypercalcemia six months before developing a peritonitis and occasionally nausea and vomits To confirm the diagnosis it was needed a peritoneal biopsy by means of a laparoscopy with a removal of the peritoneal catheter and left anexectomy. Now, the patient is asintomatic in daily home h…

Prevention of peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis.

Reducing the frequency of peritonitis for patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) continues to be a challenge. This review focuses on recent updates in catheter care and other patient factors that influence infection rates. An experienced nursing staff plays an important role in teaching proper PD technique to new patients, but nursing staff must be cognizant of each patient's unique educational needs. Over time, many patients become less adherent to proper dialysis technique, such as washing hands or wearing a mask. This behavior is associated with higher risk of peritonitis and is modif…

The peritoneal microcirculation in peritoneal dialysis.

This paper deals with the peritoneal microcirculation and with peritoneal exchange occurring in peritoneal dialysis (PD). The capillary wall is a major barrier to solute and water exchange across the peritoneal membrane. There is a bimodal size-selectivity of solute transport between blood and the peritoneal cavity, through pores of radius approximately 40-50 A as well as through a very low number of large pores of radius approximately 250 A. Furthermore, during glucose-induced osmosis during PD, nearly 40% of the total osmotic water flow occurs through molecular water channels, termed "aquapo
