Comparison of the accuracy of Cameriere's European formula with CBCT and panoramic radiography in dental age estimation in Turkish children.

This study aims to assess the reliability of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and panoramic radiography (PR) concerning dental age (DA) estimation using the Cameriere European Formula for teeth with open apices, and to evaluate their correlation with chronological age (CA) in Turkish children. The study involved 101 children aged between 6 and 14 years. DA was estimated based on the normalized measurements of the number of teeth with open apices (xi) and closed apices (N0) in the developing permanent teeth of the participants, assessed through the use of CBCT and PR. The agreement between

Comparison of skeletal changes related to patients with chronic kidney disease and healthy individuals in digital panoramic radiography.

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a prevalent condition affecting bone metabolism. Bone changes in CKD patients also known as renal osteodystrophy happen due to disorders in the regulation of water and electrolytes caused by the disease. The aim of this study is to investigate the bone changes of CKD stages 3-5 patients without dialysis using digital panoramic radiography. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, panoramic radiographs were obtained from 30 patients with CKD stages 3-5 and 30 age and gender matched healthy individuals. The mean values of quantitative par

Evaluation of panoramic radiography and axial computed tomography in cases of ameloblastoma and central giant cell granuloma of mandible.

Evaluation of mandibular mass lesions is a perplexing clinical problem. Some of these lesions have very similar clinical presentation and even similar or overlapping imaging features. Plain radiographs and orthopantomograms are frequently requisitioned for the diagnosis and are helpful in localization and characterization of these lesions. However, the specificity of diagnosis remains low. A study was undertaken to further characterize these lesions using Computed Tomography (CT) and analysis of cross sectional images of various mandibular mass lesions. Of these, imaging features of ameloblast

Diagnostic accuracy of panoramic radiography in detecting styloid process elongation: a cone-beam computed tomography referenced retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: This study aims to evaluate the reliability of panoramic imaging in assessing styloid process (SP), using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) as the reference standard. CBCT is preferred for assessing SP as it displays the dimensions and morphology of the SP without superimpositions. METHODS: SP elongation, calcification type (type 1: elongated, type 2: pseudoarticulated, type 3: segmented, and type 4: distant), and calcification pattern (calcified outline, partially calcified, nodular, and completely calcified) were evaluated on both panoramic and CBCT images of the same 407 pat

Orthopedic referral rates following osteoporosis screening using dental panoramic radiography in female patients: A three-year prospective study.

OBJECTIVES: Although osteoporosis affects approximately 15.9 million people in Japan, screening rates remain low. Dental panoramic radiographs (DPRs), routinely used in general dental practice, may facilitate opportunistic screening, yet referrals based on these images are not widely implemented. This study evaluated referral rates to orthopedic departments of patients with suspected osteoporosis identified using DPRs. METHODS: Among 3237 female patients aged ≥ 50 who underwent DPRs between February 2022 and October 2024, 328 without a prior osteoporosis diagnosis were identified as suspected

The OPG: an aid in TMJ diagnostics. III. A comparison between lateral tomography and dental rotational panoramic radiography (Orthopantomography).

In the comparison of radiographical findings (flattening, irregular surface and osteophyte formation) between lateral tomography and Orthopantomography in thirty-one female patients with craniomandibular disorders, a 76% similarity was found. A trend in the findings was seen: with an increase in radiographical findings visible in the tomograms there is a decrease in the amount of condylar asymmetry visible in the Orthopantomograms and a decrease in the age of the patients.
