Thermal and stretching characteristics are crucial variables in healthcare, robotics, and human-machine interaction applications. Here, we present a single-mode fiber-based, balloon-shaped, single- and dual polymer-layered optical wearable (PLOW) system that can sense both temperature and stretching. These two types of PLOWs are compared in terms of their detection performance across all criteria. Currently in use by interventional cardiology for the intravascular evaluation of coronary arteries, optical coherence tomography (OCT) has proven to be effective in the evaluation of atherosclerotic disease and further therapeutic management. We report a novel use of OCT technology in the case of a 46-year-old man with sudden onset blurred vision and greater than 70% stenosis of his left vertebral artery. To date, no detailed descriptions or case reports have previously been reported regarding the use of neuroendovascular OCT in diseased arteries.

During examination of the intact colon with the Olympus CF LB 185-cm colonoscope it has proved possible to reach the caecum or terminal ileum in 47 out of 50 cases (94%). Careful bowel preparation, moderately heavy sedation, and some x-ray screening are necessary for the procedure, but it was well tolerated by all patients and there was no morbidity. BACKGROUND: Resistance to the passage of the endotracheal tube (ETT) is frequently encountered in children as it is advanced over the fiberoptic scope for placement into the trachea because it gets hung up at the laryngeal inlet.
