Treatment delay and reliance on private physicians among patients with sexually transmitted diseases in China.

We examined health-care seeking practices among patients with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in south China. In 1995, we recruited a consecutive sample of 939 STD patients attending the STD clinics of the Municipal STD Control Centers of Guangzhou and Shenzhen, 'special economic zones' near Hong Kong. Attending physicians interviewed patients face-to-face using a standard survey questionnaire. Twenty-seven per cent of all subjects had sought treatment elsewhere for their presenting complaints, before visiting a study clinic. The main sources of prior treatment were private physicians fol

Tackling breast cancer in developing countries: insights from the knowledge, attitudes and practices on breast cancer and its prevention among Nigerian teenagers in secondary schools.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer occurrences in developing countries are gradually matching caucasian levels. Since early detection is linked to reductions in morbidities and mortality, affordable screening techniques like breast self-examination (BSE) becomes imperative in these resource-limited economies. Ascertaining the Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) of breast cancers and BSE among young adult females will help provide baseline information for early and targeted interventions. METHOD: A cross sectional survey involving 432 female senior secondary school students in Otuocha Educational

Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices Associated With COVID-19 Among Healthcare Workers in Hospitals: A Cross-Sectional Study in India.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has caused phenomenal loss of lives and overburdened the health system in India. Low morale, fatigue, and inadequate knowledge among the healthcare workers (HCWs) are the perceived threats to pandemic control. We aimed to assess the COVID-19 related level of knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) among our HCWs. A cross-sectional, electronically distributed, questionnaire-based study was conducted which identified the demographics of HCWs and the current KAP related to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The descriptive s

Beyond Knowledge and Attitude: Structural Drivers Dominate Canine Rabies Vaccination Decisions in Rural China: A Multilevel Modeling Study.

The knowledge-attitude-practice (KAP) model guides rabies health promotion but insufficiently explains the knowledge-practice gap. Existing research largely focuses on individual cognitive factors, lacking integration of multilevel and structural determinants. This study is based on multistage sampling and conducts a cross-sectional survey of rural populations. The multilevel mixed effects model and structural equation model were used to analyze the KAP path of the general population, and a binomial mixed effects model was used to analyze the factors affecting dog vaccination in dog-owning hou

A campaign of "communication for behavioural impact" to improve mass drug administrations against lymphatic filariasis: structure, implementation and impact on people's knowledge and treatment coverage.

In the mass drug administrations (MDA) that form the principal strategy of the Global Programme to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis, treatment coverages of at least 65%-80% will be needed if the programme is to be successful. In the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, where treatment coverages were typically <65%, a comprehensive strategy of advocacy and communication, called the "communication for behavioural impact" (COMBI) campaign, has been developed and implemented, in an attempt to improve treatment coverage. This strategy combined advocacy, aimed at state-, district- and village-level administrat

Patient awareness and perceptions of a kidney stone multidisciplinary team (MDT): a questionnaire survey.

INTRODUCTION: Kidney stone disease (KSD) is a common condition associated with high recurrence rates and significant healthcare costs. Multidisciplinary team (MDT) working has become central to the management of many complex conditions; however, its use in KSD remains inconsistent. This questionnaire survey aimed to evaluate patient awareness, understanding, and perceptions of the kidney stone MDT, while identifying opportunities to improve communication and patient engagement. METHODS: A single-centre questionnaire survey was conducted among patients attending the Southampton General Hospita

Food Service Professionals' Experiences of Accommodating Dietary Requests and Texture Modification.

BACKGROUND: Previous research highlights that people with specific dietary needs, such as texture-modified diets for dysphagia, often struggle to find suitable food in the community. However, few studies have investigated food service professionals' role in remedying this barrier. AIM: The current study aimed to understand food service professionals' perspectives and experiences accommodating dietary requests, with a specific focus on texture modification for dysphagia. METHODS: Using a qualitative descriptive approach, food service professionals from a range of contexts (n = 13) engaged in

Knowledge, attitude and practice regarding metabolic complication management after solid organ transplantation among medical staff in China.

BACKGROUND: Metabolic complications are a major challenge after solid organ transplantation (SOT), impacting graft and patient survival. Understanding staff's knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) is crucial to optimize management. METHODS: Utilizing data from a nationwide convenience sample (February-April 2025) of SOT clinicians and clinical pharmacists on the post-transplant metabolic complications management, this study analyzed 43-item KAP responses from 277 participants. Analyses included descriptive statistics, Spearman's correlation, and multinomial logistic regression to assess KAP

[Cross-cultural adaptation and reproducibility of a questionnaire to assess the knowledge and attitude of health professionals in cases of child physical abuse].

The scope of this study was to conduct cross-cultural adaptation and evaluate the reproducibility of a questionnaire designed by a team from the University of London to assess knowledge and attitudes of health professionals during primary care when faced with cases of child physical abuse. The translation rigorously followed the criteria described by Herdman (1998), to maintain maximum functional equivalence. The adapted questionnaire was tested on 107 health care professionals from Belo Horizonte. Standard and Weighted Kappa tests were used to evaluate the reproducibility of the instrument. M

Exploratory Evaluation of a Medical Student-Led Health Literacy Program Among High School Students.

BACKGROUND: Low health literacy is a barrier to positive health behaviors and outcomes among adolescents, especially in marginalized communities. Sustained, youth-centered interventions for high-risk populations are limited. CONTRIBUTIONS TO PRACTICE: We implemented and conducted an exploratory evaluation of a year-long, medical student-led program for ninth- and tenth-grade students at two Detroit public high schools. The program demonstrated the feasibility of interactive school-based health literacy programming and identified practical considerations for future implementation. Using anonym
