Posttraumatic deformities with need for surgical correction are rare and demanding in the pediatric population. The consequences of a bad outcome may last a life time. The best prevention of deformities around the elbow joint is proper initial treatment. The most common deformities are cubitus varus, cubitus valgus, chronic dislocation of the radial head and pseudarthrosis of the radial condyle. Haemophilic arthropathy of the elbow is a rare cause of elbow pain in children and adolescents. The purpose of this study is to determine the MR appearance of the spectrum of lesions found in haemophilic arthropathy of the elbow at initial MR imaging. It is important to be aware of the early changes in this entity, since early diagnosis and treatment of the disease may prevent progressive joint destruction.

We describe the intermediate results of lateral ligamentous repair or reconstruction for posterolateral rotatory instability of the elbow. Between 1986 and 1999, we performed 12 direct repairs and 33 ligament reconstructions with a tendon autograft. Two male patients, aged 44 and 88 years, presented with complaints of restricted joint movement, a growing swelling, and pain in the elbow and ankle joints, respectively. Radiographs showed cartilaginous nodules in the affected joints and minimal chondral damage. Magnetic resonance findings were consistent with synovial chondromatosis. Both patients underwent removal of loose bodies by open arthrotomy and partial synovectomy. Histopathologic examination confirmed the diagnosis. No recurrences were detected within a follow-up period of at least a year.
