BACKGROUND: The non-invasive nature of laser biostimulation has made lasers an attractive alternative in Medical Acupuncture at the last 25 years. However, there is still an uncertainty as to whether they work or their effect is just placebo. Although a plethora of scientific papers published about the topic showing positive clinical results, there is still a lack of objective scientific proofs about the biostimulation effect of lasers in Medical Acupuncture. The objective of this work was to design and build a low cost portable laser device for stimulation of acupuncture points, considered he

Chronic radiation dermatitis (CRD) is a long-term complication of radiation therapy, typically manifesting as scarred atrophic plaques with telangiectasias. In some cases, patients report persistent sensory dysesthesias such as burning, stinging, and pruritus. These symptoms are underrecognized and likely underreported but can significantly impair quality of life and are often refractory to conventional therapies. Pulsed dye laser (PDL) has demonstrated efficacy in treating CRD-associated telangiectasias, but its role in alleviating sensory symptoms has not been reported. We report 2 breast ca

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a leading cause of dementia in older adults, and effective and widely applicable treatment options remain limited. Photobiomodulation (PBM) has shown promise for AD. However, reported estimates of the delivered dose after transcranial propagation vary widely, limiting translation from animal models to clinical settings.
OBJECTIVE: Building on our team's prior clinical findings, this study evaluated whether an 810 nm/10 Hz pulsed PBM regimen improves cognitive performance and reduces Aβ42 burden in APP/PS1 mice.
METHODS: APP/PS1 mice received PBM using

Alcohol craving plays a central role in sustaining alcohol use and contributing to relapse. Noninvasive neuromodulation techniques such as transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM) and transauricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) may target craving-related neural circuits through complementary cortical and subcortical mechanisms. However, their relative and combined effects on craving and related symptoms remain unclear. To compare the effects of tPBM, taVNS, and combined tPBM + taVNS on alcohol craving, alcohol use, and psychological outcomes in individuals with subclinical alcohol use. Sixty

Severe acne, left untreated, lead to permanent scarring and facial deformities, causing significant physical and psychological distress. Traditional ablative lasers, while effective for treating facial atrophic acne scars, are often limited by long recovery times and complications such as erythema, hyperpigmentation, and scarring. This study aims to compare the efficacy of fractional carbon dioxide (CO2) laser treatment with and without subcision for improving facial acne scars, seeking a more effective treatment with minimal recovery time. A total of 30 patients (18-40 years) with facial atro

Compound betamethasone combined with 595 nm pulsed dye laser (PDL) is widely used in the clinical management of hypertrophic scars. However, the mechanisms underlying this enhanced effect remain poorly understood. This study evaluated its therapeutic efficacy and investigated whether induction of autophagy in myofibroblasts is associated with scar improvement. A rabbit ear hypertrophic scar model was established and divided into control, compound betamethasone injection (BI), PDL, and combined (BI + PDL) groups. Scar morphology and histological changes were assessed. Autophagy was evaluated us

Neuropathic pain is associated with sensory abnormalities and remains difficult to treat. Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) has emerged as a non-pharmacological approach with analgesic potential; however, sex-related differences in treatment responses remain poorly understood. We investigated the effects of PBMT in male and female rats subjected to chronic constriction injury (CCI) of the sciatic nerve. Animals received infrared PBMT administered three times per week during ten sessions, and nociceptive responses were assessed using mechanical hyperalgesia and tactile allodynia throughout trea

Skeletal muscle tissue has considerable regenerative capacity following injury; yet, this process may be gradual and constrained. Bupivacaine, a local anaesthetic, serves as a model for inducing muscle damage in experimental research. Low-level laser treatment (LLLT), also referred to as photobiomodulation (PBM) has demonstrated considerable efficacy in promoting the healing of skeletal muscle tissue. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of LLLT (810 nm) on skeletal muscle regeneration following bupivacaine-induced myonecrosis in a rabbit model. This study was structured as a contr

Presently approved Alzheimer's Disease (AD) therapeutics are designed for targeted removal of the AD-related toxic protein aggregate amyloid-β (Aβ) and have only shown moderate efficacy at slowing disease progression. Reversal of cognitive decline requires both removal of toxic aggregates and repair of the cellular systems damaged by decades of exposure to these aggregates. Adult hippocampal neurogenesis (AHN) is one such system that is known to be affected early and severely in the development of AD. Moreover, preserved AHN is associated with cognitive resilience to AD neuropathology. Therefo

Background: The utilization of zinc oxide nanoparticles is thought to augment wound healing because of their antibacterial characteristics and capacity to stimulate cellular regeneration, especially in instances of minor burn injuries. On the other hand, it has been shown that tissue regeneration is aided by low-power laser therapy via photobiomodulation. Zinc oxide nanoparticles and low-power laser therapy are the two therapeutic modalities that will be compared in this study in order to assess how well they promote healing after burn injury and provide important new information on improved w
