Multiple recurrent follicular dendritic cell sarcoma: A case report.

Tumors of the follicular dendritic cells (FDC-Sarcoma) represent a rare entity with only about 200 cases reported worldwide. The majority (6 … e patients' treatment. Due to the patients' refusal, no adjuvant therapy was applied. In the end, a neck dissection was performed. The patient was closely followed up and has been recurrence-free for 10 years. This case suggests operative resection in combination with a neck dissection as a curative therapy for FDC-Sarcoma of the head and neck.

Kirschner wires caused unexpected complications of femoral neck fracture.

OBJECTIVE: To report a unique complication of the surgical treatment of femoral neck fractures. CLINICAL PRESENTATION AND INTERVENTION: A young adult presented with lower abdominal pain and bleeding per rectum caused by rectal transfixion by Kirschner wires (K wires). The wires were used to fix a fracture on the neck of the femur during the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait. A plain X-ray showed an old united fracture of the neck of the left femur with coxa magna, mild coxa vara and mild secondary osteoarthritis of the left hip joint. Limited barium enema disclosed transfixion of the rectum by two r

Prone position thoracoscopic management of neck chyle leak following major head and neck surgery. A case series.

Chyle leak is a major compication following head and neck surgery, with reported incidence of 0.5% up to 8.3% in published literature. Cervical chyle leak may be challenging to manage with significant morbidity, resulting from extensive fluid and nutritional losses. This manuscript presents four cases of cervical chyle leak after head and neck surgery. Cervical thoracic duct injury had been identified intra-operatively. Conservative treatment failed to reduce chylous output post-operatively. All patients were offered thoracocscopic thoracic duct ligation in prone position; thoracic duct was di

Spontaneous Vertebral Artery Dissection in a Healthy 26 Year Old Female Patient: A Case Study.

Spontaneous vertebral artery dissection (SVAD) is an extremely rare, yet life-threatening, event that can potentially result in ischemic stroke or subarachnoid hemorrhage, depending on the origin and extension of the dissection. Vertebral artery dissection is more commonly associated with traumatic injury to the neck, resulting in compromised structural integrity of the vertebral artery wall. This case study discusses the clinical presentation, physical examination, diagnosis, clinical course, and outcome for a young, otherwise healthy, female patient who presented to the emergency department

Robotic radical prostatectomy: advantages of an initial posterior dissection.

During robotic radical prostatectomy (RRP), many surgeons currently employ the modified-Montsouris technique as initially described by Menon in 2002 with initial anterior prostate dissection. The anterior approach simulates the routine retropubic technique which open surgeons feel most comfortable with. Unfortunately, we observed early on in our experience that dissection of the seminal vesicles (SV) and vas deferens (VD) through a limited sized bladder neck posed limitations on working space and anatomic differentiation. As such, we have continued using a posterior-first dissection for severa

Use of the subclavian vessels for microvascular reconstruction in the vessel-depleted neck.

The previously treated neck is a serious problem if further free tissue transfer reconstruction is required. Vessel depletion is often a terrifying finding that creates the need for novel approaches to access vessels that lie outside the anatomical region of the head and neck. We present what is, to our knowledge, the first case of utilising the subclavian artery and vein in head and neck reconstruction. We describe the anatomical details and a step-by-step access approach, together with tips on how to perform safe and effective microvascular anastomoses. The quality of the subclavian vessels

Lateral neck cyst surgery without ipsilateral tonsillectomy: a retrospective analysis.

PURPOSE: Several theories have been proposed regarding the origin of lateral neck cysts (LNC). Besides complete surgical resection ipsilateral tonsillectomy and dissection of a tract or its remnants is sometimes recommended. In this retrospective trial we wanted to evaluate if patients, who received LNC resection only, develop complications or recurrence to justify this surgical strategy. METHODS: Patients who received LNC resection between 2004 and 2017 at the Ear Nose and Throat Department of a university hospital were included. Data was collected from the clinic database and through a stru
