One new phenylethanoid glycoside, named bungaside A (1), along with six known phenylethanoid glycosides (2-7), were isolated from the dried aerial parts of Clerodendrum bungei Steud. Their structures were elucidated from extensive spectroscopic analysis and hydrolysis. All the isolates were evaluated for their anti-tumor effects against H460, A549, and HepG2 cancer cell lines. Compound 7 showed moderate activity against all cell lines, with the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values ranging from 2.25 to 13.13 µM. Meanwhile, compounds 3 and 6 displayed weak activities on A549 with

The methanolic extract of Clerodendrum phlomidis Linn. (MECP) leaves was evaluated for its psychopharmacological activities in several experimental models using Swiss albino mice and Wistar albino rats. The MECP was found to cause significant reduction in spontaneous activity, and decreases in exploratory behavioral profiles by the Y-maze and head dip test. It also showed reduction in muscle relaxant activity by rotarod, 30 degrees inclined screen and traction tests, as well as significantly potentiated the phenobarbitone sodium-induced sleeping time in the doses examined (200, 400 and 600 mg/

Metabolic syndrome, characterized by an assemblage of metabolic abnormalities, including central obesity, insulin resistance (IR), high blood pressure, and dyslipidemia, constitutes a serious risk for the progression of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Oral hypoglycemic drugs, such as biguanides and sulfonylureas, and cholesterol-lowering drugs, such as statins, are commonly prescribed. However, their long-term use may cause sleep disturbance, severe hypoglycemia, muscle pain, gastrointestinal issues, and lactic acidosis (rarely). Clerodendrum plants have gai

High-throughput sequencing revealed a new emaravirus named clerodendrum yellow blotch virus (ClYBV), infecting Clerodendrum thomsoniae plants in São Paulo State, Brazil. Four genomic RNA segments (RNA1, RNA3, RNA4, and RNA5) were recovered, whereas RNA2 remained undetected. Phylogenetic analysis and pairwise comparisons based on amino acid sequences showed ClYBV is most closely related to redbud yellow ringspot-associated virus (RYRaV, Emaravirus cercidis). No ClYBV particles were observed by transmission electron microscopy in leaf tissues from infected plants. These results support the ident

Tics are characterized by involuntary, sudden, rapid, repetitive, nonrhythmic, stereotyped movements or phonic productions. Those who suffer from either motor or phonic tics, but not both, for more than 1 year are diagnosed with chronic tic disorder. Several pharmacological interventions have been proposed for the treatment of tic disorder. Dopamine D2 receptor blockers and dopamine depletors are thought to be the most effective ones clinically. However, such treatments are suboptimal in terms of effectiveness and side effects, such as body weight gain and extrapyramidal symptoms. We report on
