Using electronic technology for Taenia solium education: educating the educators.

In Taenia solium endemic areas, intervention programs include a variety of actions aimed to improve sanitary infrastructure and environment, pig husbandry conditions, detection and treatment of tapeworm carries and cysticercosis cases, among others. For a successful long-term effect, these actions must be associated with community participation and health education programs. Prior to designing/conducting health education programs tailored to specific populations, individuals involved in delivering education, as well as other professionals, students, and community leaders, must be well prepared

Technology-Based Vestibular Education.

Diagnostic errors in acute dizziness and vertigo contribute to high health care costs and poor patient outcomes, primarily due to insufficient clinician training in effective bedside examination skills. A critical barrier to improvement is the lack of scalable, high-quality training solutions. This article advocates for integration of technology to address this knowledge-to-practice gap. The potential of various technologies to standardize instruction and objectively assess complex psychomotor skills is examined. Ultimately, we argue that while technology can enhance universal training, it mus

Cognition and technology in health education research.

There is an explicit relationship between knowledge generation, transmission (dissemination and diffusion), knowledge acquisition, and utilization. In order to disseminate and diffuse information for health promotion and disease prevention, there is an assumption that we just need to change the behaviours of people. This paper challenges this notion and suggests that the thinking behind the behaviours (cognition) also needs to be addressed for successful acquisition and utilization of information. Studies focusing on cognition or thought processes and how sociocultural factors influence or int

Use of Educational Technology in Inclusive Primary Education: Protocol for a Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Educational technology (EdTech) has been instrumental in the last few decades in promoting inclusive education by overcoming various learning barriers and offering tools and opportunities to all students, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). However, there is limited understanding of current classroom practices and policies and of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on EdTech use in the inclusive classroom. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review aims to outline the current knowledge on the use of EdTech to support the learning of students with SEND i

Effectiveness of "Escape Room" Educational Technology in Nurses' Education: A Systematic Review.

Escape room games are educational gamification technologies that consist of introducing a team of players into a physical or digital space in search of clues to answer puzzles, riddles or enigmas and solve a mystery or problem. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of escape room games on the training of nursing students in an international context. A systematic review was carried out in MEDLINE, WOS, SCOPUS, CINAHL and LILACS databases using the MeSH terms "Education, Nursing" and "Educational Technology", and the free term "Escape room", combined with Boolean operators AND/OR. The Use of Technology in Clerkship Education: A Rapid Review.

BACKGROUND: There is growing interest in integrating technology into clinical clerkship education, particularly in response to disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, limited synthesis exists on how educational technologies are being used in clerkship settings, what instructional purposes they serve and what outcomes they produce. METHODS: A rapid review was conducted to identify empirical studies published between January 2020 and January 2023 that examined educational technology use in undergraduate medical clerkships. Use of technology to educate patients with celiac disease.

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder with no treatment outside of strict dietary avoidance of gluten, which makes effective patient education essential for appropriate disease management. Use of technology to deliver patient information has advanced over the past decade to include virtual visits (telehealth), easy-to-use information platforms (mobile devices), timely updates with online support (social media), and patient-driven gluten-detection devices. Information delivery through technology platforms needs to be curated by professionals to provide accurate healthcare advice. Lastly, the

Persuasive Technology in Nursing Education About Pain.

Mobile devices, as persuasive technologies, represent an important platform to promote changes in attitudes and behaviors. They are not only understood as tools, but as a learning process that provides different opportunities to learn how to learn. The objectives of the study were to measure the quality of a virtual mobile learning object, to measure the mental workload of the educational intervention, and to evaluate the learning results. This is a technological production study with a mixed method, quasi-experimental approach. Three simulated clinical scenarios comprise the m-OVADor@, allowi

Educational Review: Intraoperative Parathyroid Fluorescence Detection Technology in Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery.

BACKGROUND: Accurate parathyroid gland (PG) identification is a critical yet challenging component of cervical endocrine procedures. PGs possess strong near-infrared autofluorescence (NIRAF) compared with other tissues in the neck. This property has been harnessed by image- and probe-based near-infrared fluorescence detection systems, which have gained increasing popularity in clinical use for their ability to accurately aid in PG identification in a rapid, noninvasive, and cost-effective manner. All NIRAF technologies, however, cannot differentiate viable from devascularized PGs without the u

Innovative Educational Technologies in Undergraduate Mental Health Nursing Education: A Scoping Review.

Mental health nursing requires specialised training in therapeutic communication and related soft skills. Innovative, digitally enhanced strategies may support competency development, particularly amid clinical placement shortages. This article outlines insights from a scoping review of technology use in undergraduate mental health nursing education. The objectives were to (a) explore the impact of using these technologies in students' experience and (b) develop insights that can contribute to the development of a curriculum that embed innovative educational technology with strong theoretical

Virtual Haptic Perception as an Educational Assistive Technology: A Case Study in Inclusive Education.

The traditional educational process of blind people is a complex practice that relies on the haptic perception (tactile perception) of physical models. However, physical models may be costly, inaccessible or may require a large storage space. To overcome these difficulties, in this article a virtual haptic perception approach to support the teaching and learning process of blind people is proposed. The proposed approach combines the use of virtual reality and haptic technologies. The research aim is to objectively evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of using virtual haptic perception in

Education as a Tool to Navigate Changing Technology in Radiation Oncology.

While technological innovation in radiation therapy (RT) continues to accelerate, safe and equitable adoption of emerging tools is reliant on the readiness of the workforce and the robustness of associated educational frameworks. Early experience with disruptive technologies such as intensity-modulated RT (IMRT) has taught us that fragmented or insufficient education can create an implementation barrier. The IDEPTH framework (as illustrated here using the translation of IMRT from development to mainstream implementation) describes how development and implementation of new technologies requires
