[Factor V congenital deficiency: about a case].

Factor V congenital deficiency is a rare coagulation disorder initially described by Owren in 1947 and known as para hemophilia. It is transmitted through autosomal-recessive inheritance and homozygous cases are usually symptomatic. Factor V is an essential cofactor in the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin by activated factor X. In the absence of factor V, thrombin generation is slowed down and fibrin formation is delayed. This results in a bleeding tendency. We report a case of factor V congenital deficiency in an infant with recurrent epistaxis.

Intracranial haemorrhage due to factor V deficiency.

Factor V deficiency is a rare coagulation disorder which is inherited autosomal recessively. Factor V deficiency should be considered in infants with bleeding disorders and prolonged prothrombin and activated partial thromboplastin times if bleeding continues in spite of vitamin K injection. In this article, the case of an infant with an intracranial haemorrhage due to congenital factor V deficiency is reported.

Congenital coagulation factor V deficiency with intracranial hemorrhage.

BACKGROUND: Congenital coagulation factor V (FV) deficiency is a very rare hemorrhagic disease with an incidence of approximately one in a million. The common clinical manifestations of FV deficiency include ecchymosis and mucosal bleeding. Life-threatening intracranial bleeding is rare. It has been reported in several cases. However, the molecular basis has been established in only a few cases. METHODS: We reported a 2-month-old girl with congenital FV deficiency and intracranial hemorrhage. Coagulation screening combined with clinical manifestations was performed to diagnose congenital FV d

Clinical, Laboratory, and Molecular Aspects of Factor V Deficiency.

Factor V (FV) is a glycoprotein that plays a pivotal role in hemostasis, being involved in coagulant and anticoagulant pathways. Congenital FV deficiency is a rare bleeding disorder with an incidence of 1 per million live births, considering the most severe homozygous form. FV deficiency is diagnosed using routine coagulation tests and FV activity assays. Several mutations, including missense, nonsense, and frameshift, have been detected in the F5 gene. Clinical symptoms are variable, ranging from mild ecchymoses and mucosal bleeding to life-threatening intracranial hemorrhage. The mainstay of

PM-01: Combined Factor V and Factor VIII Deficiency: A Case Report

INTRODUCTION : Combined factor V and factor VIII deficiency is a rare bleeding disorder due to autosomal recessive inheritance. Until now less than 150 cases reported worldwide. It is characterized by mild to moderate bleeding disorder and usually is asymptomatic. However, the risk of excessive bleeding following surgery, abortion and deliveries had been described. It should be suspected when both activated partial thromboplastin time and prothrombin time are persistently prolonged. Factor V and factor VIII levels ranges between 5 and 30 % in those reported cases. CASE REPORT : Here we report

Combined deficiency of factor V and factor VIII. A report of another case.

A patient with combined factor V and factor VIII deficiency is presented. The bleeding manifestations were: easy bruising, post-traumatic bleeding, bleeding after tooth extractions. The main laboratory feature was a prolonged partial thromboplastin time which was corrected by the addition of adsorbed normal plasma but not by the addition of normal serum, hemophilia A plasma of another patient with combined factor V and factor VIII deficiency. The thromboplastin generation test was clearly abnormal and was corrected by the addition of adsorbed normal plasma but not by addition of normal serum.

[Clinical features of five cases of acquired factor V deficiency].

Acquired factor V deficiency is a rare disease that presents with various bleeding symptoms because of the acquired production of factor V inhibitors and decrease in factor V activity. We have experienced five cases of acquired factor V deficiency diagnosed on the basis of abnormalities in coagulation tests in the last 10 years. All five patients were older men, of whom one had no bleeding symptoms, and three had a history of renal failure and malignant tumors. In the cross-mixing test, two of three cases demonstrated an inhibitor pattern, but one case showed a deficient pattern. In all cases,

Managing menorrhagia in a familial case of factor V deficiency.

BACKGROUND: Factor V deficiency is a rare coagulation disorder. Excessive uterine bleeding is common in affected women. We describe a case of 2 siblings with Factor V deficiency and menorrhagia who achieved control of bleeding with differing treatments. CASES: Patient 1 is a 16-year-old female with Factor V deficiency and menorrhagia which was previously controlled with oral contraceptives (OC). She developed heavy bleeding treated with fresh frozen plasma, anti-inhibitor coagulant complex (AICC), and OC taper. A levonorgestrel IUD was placed with good control of her menorrhagia. Patient 2 is

[Menorrhagia due to congenital factor V deficiency in an adolescent].

The frequency of menometrorrhagia in adolescence is estimated at 2-5 %. The functional origin is the most common. Hemostasis abnormalities account for 20 % of cases, and they should be sought whenever there is a personal history of known or suggestive of hemostasis disorders (epistaxis, gingival bleeding, postoperative bleeding, bruising, etc.) or there is a family history of hemostasis disorders. Organic origins are rare, but these must be sought when the characteristics of bleeding point in this direction. The workup aims to investigate the cause and assess the impact of the hemorrhage. Severe factor V deficiency presenting with intracranial haemorrhage during gestation.

We present a case of intracranial haemorrhage detected by ultrasound at 36 weeks gestation in a foetus who was ultimately diagnosed with severe factor V deficiency. An abnormality of the foetal heart rate, auscultated at a routine antenatal visit, prompted an investigation that led to an ultrasound examination and detection of an intracranial haemorrhage and low amniotic fluid volume. An intrauterine foetal demise was averted. The clinical scenario in this case raises the issue of how often a stillbirth with intracranial haemorrhage may result from unrecognized factor deficiency.

Symptoms of inherited factor V deficiency in 35 Iranian patients.

The type of bleeding symptom has been evaluated in 35 Iranian patients with an inherited deficiency of factor V, with plasma levels between 1% and 10%. The most frequent symptoms included epistaxis and excessive bleeding after surgery. Haemarthroses and muscle haematomas were less common, even in severely deficient patients. More severe symptoms such as gastrointestinal and central nervous system bleeding were rare. The severity of bleeding symptoms was only partially related to the degree of factor V deficiency in plasma. On the whole, human factor V deficiency is characterized by a moderatel

Refractory Epistaxis due to Severe Factor V Deficiency with Inhibitor.

Factor V deficiency secondary to inhibitors is extremely rare and can be caused by a wide collection of exposures such as bovine thrombin and beta lactamase antibiotics. The management of factor V deficiency with inhibitor is a condition treated based on case reports due to the rarity of this condition. We describe a complicated case of an elderly patient with severe factor V deficiency with high inhibitor titer refractory to FEIBA (anti-inhibitor coagulation complex) treated with NovoSeven concurrently with cyclosporine immunosuppression and Rituxan. Given that there are no consensus guidelin

Wilson's disease with concomitant beta thalassaemia and factor V deficiency.

A case of late presentation of Wilson's disease in a female with a thalassaemic trait is reported in whom diagnosis of Factor V deficiency was made. Despite ignoring the disease for years the patient had compensated cirrhosis. She had a dramatic family history of Wilson's disease affecting at least two brothers and two sisters. Moreover, her haematologic problems were not clinically revealed until diagnosis had been made on the basis of suspicions arising from laboratory results. The therapy of choice for hepatolenticular degeneration was not feasible due to the patient's refusal. Zinc salts w

Inherited factor V deficient neonate with galactosaemia.

OBJECTIVES: Reporting a case of inherited factor V deficiency and galactosemia. METHODS: A neonate was admitted with hematoma, jaundice, splenomegaly, diarrhea, anemia, abdominal ascites and bilateral cataracts that diagnosis of galactosaemia and factor V deficiency was established. RESULTS: Coinheritance of both coagulation disorder and metabolic disorder is very rare episode that was identified in a neonate. CONCLUSION: Our case indicates that in mild bleeding episodes of neonates that imitate of coagulation disorders should be considered promptly by pediatricians.

[Autoimmune acquired factor V deficiency developing after thoracic aortic aneurysm repair].

BACKGROUND: Acquired factor V deficiency is a rare bleeding disorder caused by autoantibodies against factor V, resulting in marked reduction of activity and bleeding tendency. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of an 81-year-old man who developed acquired factor V deficiency after total arch replacement and open stent grafting for a thoracic aortic aneurysm. Postoperatively, despite the absence of bleeding tendency, both prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) were markedly prolonged. Factor assays revealed factor V activity <3%, and a factor V inhibitor was

Congenital factor V deficiency in a pediatric patient causing mild hemorrhage.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: This study aimed to elucidate the phenotype and genotype of a patient (9-year-old) with coagulation factor V (FV) deficiency to enhance our understanding of this specific disorder. METHODS: FV activity and antigen level were evaluated using a clotting assay and ELISA, respectively. Variations in the F5 gene were identified through DNA sequencing. The effects of the identified mutations on protein functionality were investigated using four bioinformatics tools: Expasy-ProtScale, ClustalX-2.1-win, Swiss-PdbViewer, and PyMol. These tools were applied to analyze hydrophobic p
