Fatal consequences of uterine rupture in late pregnancy.

Uterine rupture in pregnancy belongs to acute conditions in gynaecology and obstetrics. It is a life-threatening complication for both mother and foetus. The occurrence of fatal consequences in developed countries is very rare. The causes of rupture include scarring after the caesarean section, fibroid enucleation, rough curettage, muscular insufficiency in uterine developmental defects, uterine wall damage due to inflammation, uterine hypoplasia, elevated intrauterine pressure during contraction, cephalopelvic disproportion, previous fibroid, prostaglandin or oxytocin administration, etc. Thi

Anesthesia for emergency cesarean section.

Caesarean Section is one of the most common of all surgical procedures. Common indications for caesarean section may include foetal distress, Cephalopelvic disproportion and failure of labour to progress. Both regional and general anesthesia may be employed for caesarean section. Each is relatively safe and they have their own advantages and disadvantages. Actual decision to adopt one technique over another depends on maternal and foetal status and skill and ability of the anesthesiologist to tackle the situation with the aim of patient and baby safely. Among these, many of the cases come to t

Operative considerations in the obese pregnant patient.

Many obstetricians feel that obesity is associated with a general increase in risks during pregnancy. However, there is some suggestion that obese patients may actually have a decreased risk of premature delivery and delivering small-for-gestational-age infants. Multiple studies have found that even though maternal medical complications are more likely in obese mothers, neonatal outcome can still be excellent in this group. Earlier reports found that the obese mother was at greater risk of abnormal labor and operative delivery. However, recent studies in which nonobese patients have been used

Associated Factors for Cesarean Section in Pregnant Women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus.

INTRODUCTION: Women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) have an increased risk of undergoing cesarean section (CS). This study aimed to identify factors associated with CS in women with GDM. METHODS: A retrospective observational study was conducted on patients with GDM who delivered at Hainan General Hospital between January 2021 and June 2023. The patients were grouped by delivery type: CS vs. vaginal. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to identify the factors associated with CS. RESULTS: Of the 1689 women with GDM, 731 had CS. Logistic regression revealed that CS was

Prenatal radiofrequency ablation for bronchopulmonary sequestration: a case report of successful fetal intervention and longitudinal outcomes.

INTRODUCTION: Bronchopulmonary sequestration (BPS), a rare congenital pulmonary malformation, is characterized by nonfunctional pulmonary parenchyma with aberrant systemic arterial supply (typically from the aorta or its major branches) and absence of communication with the tracheobronchial tree. Large BPS lesions pose significant fetal risks, including hydrops fetalis, mediastinal shift, and polyhydramnios, necessitating timely prenatal intervention to prevent fetal demise. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of successful ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of the feeding arter

Predicting mid-pelvic interspinous distance in women using height and pubic arch angle.

OBJECTIVE: To predict the interspinous distance (ISD) using the relationship between female height and pelvimetric measures on magnetic resonance (MR) images. METHODS: We obtained measurements of the pubic arch angle (PAA), inlet-anteroposterior (AP) distance, mid-pelvis AP distance, outlet-AP distance, ISD, and ischial tuberosity distance using 710 pelvic MR images from nonpregnant reproductive-aged (21-50 years) women from January 2014 to June 2020. Patient height was also assessed from medical records. We determined the formula for predicting ISD using multiple regression analysis. RESULT

Feto-maternal Outcomes of Emergency Caesarean Section following Residential Posting at Dhading District Hospital.

INTRODUCTION: Caesarean section is a commonly performed major obstetric surgery to deliver baby under certain indications which may be maternal or fetal. If performed timely, it is helpful to save the life of mother and fetus and if not, it increases both maternal and fetal risks. METHODS: A hospital based descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at Dhading district hospital from 17th October 2016 to 17th October 2017. Total of 41 patients undergoing emergency caesarean section meeting the selection criteria were included. RESULTS: The incidence of emergency caesarean section was 41 (
