A Decade of Interactive Educational Exchange: Impacting Interprofessional Palliative Care Education.

The interprofessional clinical practice model is arguably the most impactful and generative aspect of hospice and palliative care (HPC) clinical practice. This article describes the innovative, shared interprofessional leadership model, andragogical infrastructure, program development, educational impact, and critical lessons from the Interactive Educational Exchange (IEE). In response to a deficit in interprofessional HPC educational opportunities for rapid scholarship dissemination and mentorship, interprofessional leaders from medicine, social work and nursing proposed and implemented the I

Decoding medical educators' perceptions on generative artificial intelligence in medical education.

Generative AI (GenAI) is a disruptive technology likely to generate a major impact on faculty and learners in medical education. This work aims to measure the perception of GenAI among medical educators and to gain insights into its major advantages and concerns in medical education. A survey invitation was distributed to medical education faculty of colleges of allopathic and osteopathic medicine within a single university during the fall of 2023. The survey comprised 12 items, among those assessing the role of GenAI for students and educators, the need to modify teaching approaches, GenAI's

Educators' experiences in special education institutions during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The COVID-19 outbreak has had a profound impact on education worldwide. As a result of the educational institutions closures, it is likely that the impact on special education would be more detrimental since special education population becomes more vulnerable in the aftermath of an outbreak. In the scope of this study, a researcher created survey was used to examine educators' teaching experiences and their perceptions about the impact of COVID-19 outbreak on special education students. The sample included 215 educators working in the Special Education and Rehabilitation Centers (SERCs) in Tu

A rare disease and education: Neurofibromatosis type 1 decreases educational attainment.

Rare heritable syndromes may affect educational attainment. Here, we study education in neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1) that is associated with multifaceted medical, social and cognitive consequences. Educational attainment in the Finnish population-based cohort of 1408 individuals with verified NF1 was compared with matched controls using Cox proportional hazards model with delayed entry and competing risk for death. Moreover, models accounting for the effects of cancer at age 15-30 years, parental NF1 and developmental disorders were constructed. Overall, the attainment of secondary education was

HPV vaccine education: enhancing knowledge and attitudes of community counselors and educators.

Educational efforts targeting parents of preadolescents may help them make informed decisions about having their children vaccinated against the human papillomavirus (HPV). We conducted a pilot study examining knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs of community-based health educators and counselors who routinely disseminate sexual health and prevention information through counseling and supporting these parents. We evaluated the impact of a single, brief workshop by administering questionnaires before and after the session. The workshop consisted of an educational intervention that was presented or

Comprehensive sexuality education in primary education: analyzing the impact of an educational intervention on knowledge, perceptions, and communication-a quasi-experimental study.

INTRODUCTION: Comprehensive sexuality education is fundamental for the healthy development of children and adolescents, as it promotes essential knowledge, values, and skills for responsible emotional and sexual lives. Early and integrated implementation within the school curriculum contributes to the prevention of risks such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs), unintended pregnancies, and exposure to pornography. This study aimed to explore short-term changes following a school-based sexual health education intervention among primary school students. METHODS: A quantitative pre-post ap

What is the impact of the Rashomon approach in primary care education?: An educational case report of implementing dialogue and improvisation into medical education.

BACKGROUND: The excessive sub-divided or concrete pre-determined objectives found in the technological approach in contemporary medical education curricula may hinder the students' spontaneous learning about diverse needs and values in care. However, medical professionals must learn the diversity for care or a variety of social factors of the patients influencing decision making in daily practice. METHODS: We introduced a new method of curriculum development called the Rashomon approach. For testing the Rashomon approach, educational activities to teach the diversity in primary care were deve

Multicenter Online Nursing Education to Improve Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis Administration: A Descriptive Post-Education Survey.

BACKGROUND: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) causes preventable harm, and risk-appropriate prophylaxis administration is often suboptimal because of inconsistent practices and gaps in knowledge. The authors disseminated a validated web-based interactive nurse education module on VTE prevention and evaluated nurses' perspectives. METHOD: A descriptive cross-sectional electronic post-education survey of trauma nurses was conducted at nine Level I to II centers in the Consortium of Leaders in the study Of Traumatic Thromboembolism (CLOTT) Network. Data were summarized descriptively and with conventi

Getting Real About Colorectal Cancer Education (GRACCE): Pilot Evaluation of a Community-Led Education Program.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence is rising among young adults, highlighting the need for targeted education and prevention. Community-informed approaches are often more effective and sustainable than traditional top-down health education models because they integrate community knowledge and lived experience from the outset. The [blinded], a non-profit organization, developed GRACCE (Getting Real About Colorectal Cancer Education), a peer-led, ambassador-driven education program adapted from an evidence-based curriculum to increase CRC awareness among young adults. This pilot project recruited

Education as a mediating interface in global health: A conceptual synthesis of antimicrobial resistance education.

Often recognised as a determinant of health and key to health communication, education is an underdeveloped concept in global health. This paper develops a conceptual understanding of how educational processes shape engagement with global health challenges, particularly their role in promoting health equity, capability and sustainability. Using antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as an illustrative case, the paper examines how education shapes understandings of health challenges, supports capability development and enables engagement with health governance. Methodologically, the paper adopts an int

Education and fertility: Evidence from an instrumental variable approach using higher education expansions in Turkey.

This paper examines the impact of higher education on women's fertility behavior in Turkey. To address the endogeneity of education we use the plausibly exogenous variation in college availability in Turkey between 1983 and 2000. We find that increased education of women in Turkey significantly reduced the number of children and increased the probability of childlessness at the end of the fecund period. The effect of education on fertility worked through a postponement in first births at ages following college graduation until the age of 35, an improvement in women's labor market outcomes, bet

Group pain education is as effective as individual education in patients with chronic temporomandibular disorders.

BACKGROUND: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are recognised as the most common chronic orofacial pain condition, with prevalence figures ranging from 3% to 12%. Patients referred to tertiary orofacial pain clinics for the management of TMD often experience delays in receiving treatment. The objective of the present study was to assess a group treatment programme to deliver effective earlier intervention for patients with chronic TMD. METHODS: Forty-two patients with TMD seen at the Oral Medicine Clinic, Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne, were administered baseline validated pain questionnai

Work-related violence, lifestyle, and health among special education teachers working in Finnish basic education.

BACKGROUND: Studies have reported higher levels of absenteeism due to illness among special education teachers compared to other teachers, but it is not known which factors might contribute to this difference. We examined whether health, health behaviors, and exposure to violence at work differed between special education and general education teachers in Finnish basic education. METHODS: Survey data from 5760 general and special education teachers were analyzed with multilevel logistic models adjusted for individual- and school-level confounding factors. RESULTS: No difference was found bet
