The effects of x-ray contrast media on signal intensities were studied. Relaxation times of myelographic contrast media were measured. Whereas relaxation times of Amipaque were longer, compared to CSF, the relaxation times of Duroliopaque, Omnipaque und Solutrast were significantly shorter than that of CSF. Therefore, the qualitative and quantitative effects of different contrast media on signal intensities varied. Most notable was the increase of signal intensity on T1-weighted images due to oily contrast media.

We describe a technique of injecting alcohol into venous malformations (VM) under slow digital subtraction angiography (DSA) which eliminates the need to pre-mix the alcohol with a contrast agent. The technique presented here is especially helpful when Metrizamide is not available or not permitted for use. It offers an elegant way to visualize, in real time, the alcohol injected into the VM, while preserving its high concentration and potency as a sclerosing agent.

Most cases of drug eruption caused by nonionic contrast media (NICM) reported to date have been of the erythema multiforme type. Herein we report the first case of multiple fixed drug eruption (FDE) caused by iomeprol (Iomeron(R)). For more effective and simple endoscopic injection sclerotherapy (EIS) for esophageal varices, we developed an EIS procedure with ligation (EISL) that is non-invasive, in which EIS and endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) are performed simultaneously. Duodenal varices are a rare site of hemorrhage in patients with portal hypertension, but their rupture is a serious and often fatal event. We report a 65-year-old woman who presented with hematemesis and melena. She was admitted to our department because of prolonged shock, despite having received transfusion of a large volume of blood. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed nodular varices with active bleeding in the second portion of the duodenum. Endoscopic injection sclerotherapy (EIS) was performed using a tissue adhesive agent, alpha-cyanoacrylate monomer, with only temporary benefit.

Catheter-induced ventricular ectopy can limit assessment of contractility or anatomy.
