Prognosis of a horizontal mid-root fracture is favorable, primarily because the dental pulp tends to maintain its vitality and the fracture segments are completely intraalveolar. Healing usually occurs with deposition of calcified tissue. However, if the segment coronal to the fracture becomes nonvital and infected, healing occurs by interposition of granulation tissue. This report describes a case of a horizontal mid-root fracture in a right maxillary central incisor tooth, where the apical fractured segment was significantly displaced in a linear direction. This was attributed to the pressur

BACKGROUND: The facial bone has a complex structure compared to other bones, and various types of fractures can occur due to its characteristics. Among them, in comminuted fractures of anterior maxillary wall, multiple depressed and impacted bony segments cannot be reduced easily when performing internal fixation using plates and screws or wires, and inadequate restoration leads to a range of complications. This paper introduces an alternative technique using a resorbable mesh with fibrin glue to restore comminuted fractures of anterior maxillary wall.
METHODS: Thirteen patients were diagnose

This article presents a case of a palatogingival groove (PPG) in tooth No. 12 that was misdiagnosed as a mutilated root fracture. A PPG is a developmental anomaly that predisposes a tooth to a severe periodontal defect. The initial diagnosis of mutilated root fracture on tooth No. 12 was made solely from radiographs that showed a vertical and horizontal radiolucent line with a radiolucent halo-shaped bone resorption in relation to the root apex. Transillumination, bite test, surgical visualization of the site, and the use of high-end diagnostic modalitieswere not considered prior to the final

AIM: To investigate the effects of endodontic treatment, post placement and ceramic restoration type on the fracture resistance of premolars.
METHODOLOGY: One hundred and twenty teeth maxillary premolars were allocated to four groups (A-D; n = 30). In group A, mesio-occlusal-distal-inlays with a buccal and palatal wall of 2 mm (MOD), in group B partial onlays with palatal cusp coverage and in group C total onlays with buccal and palatal cusp coverage were prepared. Group D served as untreated controls. Groups A-C were divided into three subgroups (n = 10): (i) teeth received solely the descri

For the conservative treatment of mandibular fractures with arch bars under local anaesthesia we used two forms of premedication in 140 patients: 1. an analgetic sedation with pethidine 1 mg/kg body weight and promethazine 0.5 mg/kg body weight i.m. (n = 70 cases) 2. an anxiolytic sedation with midazolam 0.05-0.1 mg/kg body weight i.v. (n = 70 cases). The effect of the premedication was measured retrospectively by the mean amount of local anaesthetics used during splinting. It could be noted that the mean consumption of local anaesthetics was significantly lower in the midazolam-group than in

AIM: To report two cases of palatal root fracture in maxillary molars that were successfully managed in the short term by root canal treatment and root amputation.
SUMMARY: In the first case, a 48-year-old woman with bony destruction and a deep periodontal pocket on the palatal root of tooth 26 (FDI) underwent root canal treatment. Bleeding into the palatal canal and radiolucent lines over the root suggested a fracture. Further evidence was provided by an electronic apex locator. Subsequent surgery confirmed the presence of a horizontal root fracture and the fractured root was removed. In the

INTRODUCTION: Zygomatico-orbital fractures are the second most common facial injuries. Trauma to mid-facial region can lead to an alteration or loss of sensation in the facial region which sometimes requires early surgical intervention to aid in an early recovery.
AIM: To evaluate the different neurosensory changes in the infraorbital nerve function following common treatment modalities used in the management of zygomatico-maxillary complex fractures.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirteen patients selected for the study had unilateral zygomatic complex fracture with altered sensation in the region

Fractures of the jaw are often treated with rigid and stable internal fixation using plates or miniplates. Early surgery for jaw fractures is the optimal treatment; however, if a late treatment is begun, often the adoption of other protocols is needed. When the jaw fracture has one free bone fragment with 2 full-thickness lesions of mucoperiosteal soft tissues both on the buccal and palatal sides, the risk of resorption or necrosis is very high after elevating a mucoperiosteal flap for rigid fixation. For this reason, we developed an intraoral epimucosal fixation technique using self-locking s

When a tooth fracture occurs, the fracture line can extend in a variety of directions, and the direction of the fracture line often dictates the treatment plan. In cases where fracture lines extend apical to the gingival margin, exposure of fractured margins becomes necessary. And management of such tooth fractures often requires an interdisciplinary approach involving endodontic, periodontic and restorative procedures. This article describes a case in which severely traumatized maxillary anterior teeth were managed by a combined approach involving surgical exposure and crown lengthening, endo

BACKGROUND: Fiber-reinforced posts are widely used to restore endodontically treated anterior teeth, yet the relative contributions of post length, diameter, material, and surface treatment to fracture resistance in maxillary lateral incisors remain unclear.
PURPOSE: To determine the individual and interactive effects of fiber post length, diameter, material, and surface treatment on the fracture resistance and failure modes of endodontically treated maxillary lateral incisors restored with composite cores and monolithic zirconia crowns.
METHODS: In a controlled laboratory study (2 × 2 × 2 ×

Fracture of implant prosthetic screws is a significant mechanical complication that may compromise implant stability, prosthetic function, and long-term restorative success. Retrieval of fractured screw fragments can be particularly challenging in implant overdenture patients because of limited access, prosthetic wear, and the risk of damaging the implant's internal connection during retrieval procedures. This report describes the conservative management of a fractured implant screw associated with a maxillary locator-retained overdenture in a medically compromised elderly patient with a prolo

Extensive coronal destruction following trauma or caries presents a recurring challenge in prosthodontic rehabilitation, particularly in the esthetic zone. A multidisciplinary approach combining traditional post-core systems with contemporary surgical adjuncts ensures optimal long-term outcomes. This paper reports the management of a grossly fractured maxillary central incisor using a Richmond crown following diode laser-assisted crown lengthening. A 21-year-old male patient presented with pulpal necrosis and apical periodontitis in tooth 21. After nonsurgical endodontic therapy, post space pr

Crown-root fractures are often challenging to treat and have a poor prognosis. The present case explains the successful management of a vertically fractured tooth treated by intentional replantation in a 12-year-old child. The patient underwent a successful 12-month follow-up, which included a mobility test and measurement of the gingival sulcus depth. Additionally, a radiological assessment was performed to evaluate the root resorption, the integrity of the alveolar cortex, and the periodontal space. We suggest that intentional replantation may be an effective therapeutic approach for the tre

3D technology has been applied in both surgery simulation and guidance in endodontic microsurgery. Treatment options are still limited for vertical root fracture (VRF) in inaccessible areas that require accurate resection, especially in single-rooted teeth. This case illustrates successful treatment based on 3D technology. The literature on endodontic microsurgery of VRF is summarized. A 27-year-old woman presented with periapical lesions and apical root resorption of a maxillary premolar. After endodontic microsurgery was arranged, unexpected VRF was discovered through CBCT. Using a 3D-printe

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the efficacy of forced extrusion using the sling shot elastic. A 21 year adult patient reported with an Ellis Class VIII fracture of the maxillary right lateral incisor. Root canal treatment followed by a fiber reinforced composite post was placed and core build up was done. A metal button was bonded to the tooth. Begg brackets were placed from the second premolar on one side to the second premolar on the opposite side. 0.016″ × 0.025″ stainless steel was placed in ribbon mode. The ligature wire was placed as a sling shot from the button on the fractured to
