Extracardiac findings with increased perfusion during clinical O-15-H2O PET/CT myocardial perfusion imaging: A case series.

BACKGROUND: Coincidental extracardiac findings with increased perfusion were reported during myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) with various retention radiotracers. Clinical parametric O-15-H2O PET MPI yielding quantitative measures of myocardial blood flow (MBF) was recently implemented at our facility. We aim to explore whether similar extracardiac findings are observed using O-15-H2O. METHODS AND RESULTS: All patients (2963) were scanned with O-15-H2O PET MPI according to international guidelines and extracardiac findings were collected. In contrast to parametric O-15-H2O MBF images, extra

A Prospective, Comparative Study of Ventilation-Perfusion Planar Imaging and Ventilation-Perfusion SPECT for Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension.

This study compared the diagnostic performance of ventilation-perfusion (V/Q) planar imaging and V/Q SPECT and determined whether combining perfusion SPECT with low-dose CT (Q-LDCT) may be equally effective in a prospective study of patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). V/Q scanning is recommended for excluding CTEPH during the diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension (PH). However, V/Q planar imaging and V/Q SPECT have yet to be compared in patients with CTEPH. Methods: Patients with suspected PH were eligible for the study. PH attributable to left heart disease or l

Effects of hemodynamics on global and regional lung perfusion: a quantitative lung perfusion study by magnetic resonance imaging.

BACKGROUND: Cardiac hemodynamics affect pulmonary vascular pressure and flow, but little is known of the effects of hemodynamics on lung perfusion at the tissue level. We sought to investigate the relationship between hemodynamic abnormalities in patients with left heart failure and global and regional lung perfusion using lung perfusion quantification by magnetic resonance imaging. METHODS AND RESULTS: Lung perfusion was quantified in 10 normal subjects and 28 patients undergoing clinically indicated left and right heart catheterization and same day research cardiac magnetic resonance imagin

Diffusion-Weighted Imaging Combined with Perfusion-Weighted Imaging under Segmentation Algorithm in the Diagnosis of Melanoma.

This study is aimed at exploring the value of magnetic resonance diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) combined with perfusion-weighted imaging (PWI) for diagnosing melanoma under a three-dimensional (3D) hybrid segmentation algorithm. 40 patients with melanoma were collected as research objects and subjected to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination. A segmentation model was constructed and the original images were input. The noise contained in the images was preprocessed and normalized, and the mixed level set segmentation was performed after linear fusion of the images. Imaging findings we

[Contrast-enhanced Ultrasound in Diagnostic Imaging of Muscle Injuries: Perfusion Imaging in the Early Arterial Phase].

BACKGROUND: Ultrasound is a standard procedure widely used in the diagnostic investigation of muscle injuries and widely described in the literature. Its advantages include rapid availability, cost effectiveness and the possibility to perform a real-time dynamic examination with the highest possible spatial resolution. In the diagnostic work-up of minor lesions (muscle stiffness, muscle strain), plain ultrasound has so far been inferior to MRI. The case presented by us is an example of the possibilities offered by contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in the imaging of muscle injuries compared w

Pulsed Doppler tissue imaging for the assessment of myocardial viability: comparison with 99mTc sestamibi perfusion imaging.

The aim of the present study was to examine whether Doppler tissue imaging demonstrated comparable diagnostic performance for the detection of viable myocardium compared to myocardial perfusion imaging with Tc hexakis-2-methoxyisobutylisonitrile (MIBI). We studied 30 patients with old myocardial infarction who underwent percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). Myocardial single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) with Tc-MIBI and two-dimensional echocardiography were carried out within 7 days before PTCA. We measured regional Tc-MIBI uptake for each myocardial segment fro

Computational imaging of cerebral perfusion by real time processing of DSA images. Clinical applications.

Real time and high resolution functional imaging of cerebral perfusion was developed, which displays the color coded image of the cerebral perfusion index (PI) from the serial images of digital subtraction angiography (DSA). The small (3 x 3 pixels) regions of interest (ROI) were set on the images, and the time density curves of the contrast media for each ROI were obtained. The perfusion indices, corresponding to the mean transit time (MTT), were calculated for all the ROIs on the image in real time (5 sec) by the area over height method and then, converted to the PI image. A large ROI (64 x

Evaluation of thallium myocardial-perfusion imaging by means of washout parametric images: a simulation study.

A method for the evaluation of myocardial perfusion with 201Tl scintigraphic images is presented. The method is based on making a pixel-by-pixel comparison of the stress and the redistribution images aligned by using bidimensional correlation techniques between the nonpathologic regions of the myocardium. The comparison is made by means of parametric images of the washout, which are evaluated by calculating separately the mean values in the normal and the abnormal regions. The study is carried out on controlled models that contain myocardium, an artifact, and noise. The results show the suitab

Monitoring of Tissue Perfusion During Arterial Occlusion With Remote Photoplethysmographic Imaging.

BACKGROUND: Arterial occlusion is commonly used clinically, yet no standardized protocol exists for cuff pressure or placement. Different pressures and locations may elicit varying physiological responses. This study investigates whether local and systemic reactions vary with pressure and cuff location. METHODS: Healthy volunteers underwent arterial occlusion at the wrist or upper arm using a cuff inflated to 150 or 200 mmHg. Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) was used to monitor the occluded and control hands. We analyzed AC components (heart rate, respiratory rate, low-frequency activity) a

Lymph Nodal Plasmacytoma Detected on Myocardial Perfusion Imaging. Revisiting the Past.

Stress myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) is a commonly performed imaging to detect stress-induced perfusion defects. However, it can, at times, detect incidental ominous pathologies such as breast cancer, lung cancer, plasmacytoma, or multiple myeloma. Here, we report the case of a 54-year-old man incidentally detected to have plasmacytoma on 99mTc-Sestamibi (2-methoxyisobutylisonitrile) MPI.

Cardiac allograft vasculopathy diagnosed by vasodilator myocardial contrast echocardiography perfusion imaging.

Cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) remains a common long-term complication of cardiac transplantation. While invasive coronary angiography is considered the gold standard, it is also invasive and lacks sensitivity to detect early, distal CAV. Although vasodilator stress myocardial contrast echocardiography perfusion imaging (MCE) is used in the detection of microvascular disease in non-transplant patients, there is little data guiding its use in transplant recipients. Herein is a case series of four heart transplant recipients that had vasodilator stress MCE performed in addition to invasive

Imaging PPG for In Vivo Human Tissue Perfusion Assessment during Surgery.

Surgical excision is the golden standard for treatment of intestinal tumors. In this surgical procedure, inadequate perfusion of the anastomosis can lead to postoperative complications, such as anastomotic leakages. Imaging photoplethysmography (iPPG) can potentially provide objective and real-time feedback of the perfusion status of tissues. This feasibility study aims to evaluate an iPPG acquisition system during intestinal surgeries to detect the perfusion levels of the microvasculature tissue bed in different perfusion conditions. This feasibility study assesses three patients that underwe

Cerebral perfusion imaging predicts final infarct volume after basilar artery thrombectomy.

OBJECTIVES: Cerebral perfusion imaging may be used to identify the ischemic core in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients with a large vessel occlusion of the anterior circulation; however, perfusion parameters that predict the ischemic core in AIS patients with a basilar artery occlusion (BAO) are poorly described. We determined which cerebral perfusion parameters best predict the ischemic core after successful endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) in BAO patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed multicenter retrospective study of BAO patients with perfusion imaging before EVT and a DWI after s

Imaging Pulmonary Blood Vessels and Ventilation-Perfusion Mismatch in COVID-19.

COVID-19 hypoxemic patients although sharing a same etiology (SARS-CoV-2 infection) present themselves quite differently from one another. Patients also respond differently to prescribed medicine and to prone Vs supine bed positions. A severe pulmonary ventilation-perfusion mismatch usually triggers moderate to severe COVID-19 cases. Imaging can aid the physician in assessing severity of COVID-19. Although useful for their portability X-ray and ultrasound serving on the frontline to evaluate lung parenchymal abnormalities are unable to provide information about pulmonary vasculature and blood

Considerations for Stress Testing Performed in Conjunction with Myocardial Perfusion Imaging.

For myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI), the best test to evaluate hemodynamic changes during stress is an exercise treadmill test. It provides independent prognostic value, including evaluation of total exercise time, performance, and capacity; heart rate response during exercise, with ischemia, and in recovery; blood pressure response; myocardial oxygen demand; and assessment of symptoms. Combining these exercise data with perfusion imaging provides the best prognostic value and risk stratification for patients. Although exercise stress testing accompanied by MPI is preferential, it is not al
