Post-exercise hot-water immersion is not effective for ribosome biogenesis in rat skeletal muscle.

Ribosome biogenesis is an important regulator of skeletal muscle hypertrophy induced by repeated bouts of resistance exercise (RE). Hot-water immersion (HWI), a widely used post-exercise recovery strategy, activates the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling, a key regulator of ribosome biogenesis in skeletal muscle. However, the effect of HWI on skeletal muscle ribosome biogenesis is not well understood. Here, we aimed to investigate the effects of HWI and post-exercise HWI on ribosome biogenesis using a rat RE model. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to HWI and non-HW

Stewart-based characterisation of blood acid-base recovery over 48 h following exercise under hot condition in camels (Camelus dromedarius).

OBJECTIVE: Exercise in desert heat disturbs respiratory and metabolic balance in camels. Unlike the Henderson-Hasselbalch model, which focuses mainly on bicarbonate and carbon dioxide, Stewart's physicochemical approach clarifies acid-base regulation through strong-ion and weak-acid effects. This experiment investigated post-exercise acid-base recovery dynamics in exercise-unacclimatized dromedary camels under hot field conditions using Stewart's approach. METHODS: Five healthy bull camels completed a standardized 90-min field exercise at approximately 14 km·h-1 during midday heat. Recovery w

Temporal dissociation between heart rate recovery and heart rate variability recovery after submaximal exercise in healthy older adults.

BACKGROUND: Heart rate recovery (HRR) is commonly used to evaluate post-exercise recovery. However, it might not fully represent the recovery of heart rate variability-derived autonomic indices in older adults. This study examined whether heart rate and heart rate variability-derived indices of cardiac autonomic modulation show divergent recovery patterns following submaximal exercise in healthy older adults. METHODS: Fifty-eight community-dwelling adults aged 60-81 years completed a 5-minute submaximal step test following a 10-minute seated resting period. Heart rate (HR) and heart rate vari

High-intensity exercise training mitigates post-exercise orthostatic hypotension in men.

Whether high-intensity exercise training can effectively mitigate orthostatic-induced post-exercise hypotension (PEH) has not been satisfactory resolved to date. We therefore examined whether 2 weeks of high-intensity exercise training can effectively mitigate the orthostatic-induced PEH by conducting comparisons pre- and post-training at the same absolute and relative workloads. Eleven healthy men underwent 2 weeks of high-intensity exercise training within the severe intensity domain (i.e., above critical power) for 15 min per session for 14 daily consecutive sessions. Assessment of orthosta

Effect of feeding and fasting on excess post-exercise oxygen consumption in juvenile southern catfish (Silurus meridionalis Chen).

The impact of feeding (fed to satiation, 13.85% body mass) on excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC, chasing for 2.5 min) was investigated in juvenile southern catfish (Silurus meridionalis Chen) (38.62-57.55 g) at 25. Cutlets of freshly killed loach species without viscera, head and tail were used as the test meal, and oxygen consumption (VO(2)) was adjusted to a standard body mass of 1 kg using a mass exponent of 0.75. Resting VO(2) increased significantly above fasting levels (49.89 versus 148.25 mg O(2) h(-)(1)) in 12 h postprandial catfish. VO(2) and ventilation frequency (V(f)) b

Impact of ischemic preconditioning combined with aerobic exercise on 24-h ambulatory blood pressure in men with prehypertension and stage 1 hypertension.

INTRODUCTION: A single bout of aerobic exercise is known to induce a temporary reduction in post-exercise blood pressure termed post-exercise hypotension (PEH). Meanwhile, an ischemic preconditioning (IPC), a series of short ischemia-reperfusion intervention, has also shown antihypertensive effects showing a potential nonpharmacologic intervention for hypertension. While the acute BP reduction effects of aerobic exercise and IPC are individually well-investigated, it remains unclear if combining both interventions has an additive effect on PEH. METHODS: A total of twelve pre- or hypertensive

Gas exchange, metabolite status and excess post-exercise oxygen consumption after repetitive bouts of exhaustive exercise in juvenile rainbow trout.

Juvenile rainbow trout (approximately 6 g) were exercised to exhaustion in two 5 min bouts given 6 h apart. Resting levels of whole-body lactate and glycogen were restored prior to the second bout. The rate of O2 consumption increased about threefold 5 min after each bout of exercise, while recovery time decreased from 4 h after the first bout to 2-3 h after the second. The excess post-exercise oxygen consumption, i.e. 'oxygen debt', was significantly reduced by 40% after the second exercise bout, despite almost identical rates of lactate clearance and glycogen resynthesis. The rates of CO2 an

Post-discharge kinesiophobia trajectories and rehabilitation outcomes in post-stroke hemiplegia.

BACKGROUND: Kinesiophobia may reduce participation in post-stroke rehabilitation and impede functional recovery, but its course after discharge and its clinical significance remain unclear. This study identified 6-month trajectories of kinesiophobia in patients with post-stroke hemiplegia and examined their associations with motor recovery and rehabilitation exercise adherence. METHODS: In this single-center prospective longitudinal study, 296 patients with post-stroke hemiplegia were assessed at discharge and at 1, 3, and 6 months after discharge. Baseline discharge assessment occurred a mea

The effect of fascia gun on relaxation of exercise-induced muscle fatigue in athletes: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Inadequate recovery from exercise-induced muscle fatigue (EIMF) can negatively impact subsequent athletic performance. Although static stretching is widely used, its effectiveness remains controversial. The fascia gun, an emerging percussive massage tool, has been shown to alleviate pain, but evidence regarding its efficacy in promoting EIMF recovery compared to traditional stretching is limited. This study aims to compare the recovery effects of fascia gun percussive massage, static stretching, and passive recovery on exercise-induced muscle fatigue of the lower limbs in athletes.

Integrated heart rate and oxygen uptake recovery phenotypes reveal heterogeneous recovery patterns in coronary artery disease.

INTRODUCTION: Heart rate recovery (HRR) and oxygen uptake (VO₂) recovery provide complementary information regarding autonomic and metabolic recovery following exercise; however, their integrated assessment remains insufficiently explored in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). METHODS: This retrospective observational study included 200 patients with stable CAD who underwent symptom-limited cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET). HRR at 1 min (HRR1), ΔVO₂ values, and VO₂ recovery indices were analyzed, and patients were classified according to combined HRR and VO₂ recovery patterns

Early targeted heart rate aerobic exercise versus placebo stretching for sport-related concussion in adolescents: a randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Sport-related concussion is a public health problem, particularly in adolescents. Quality of life is reduced in adolescents with persistent post-concussive symptoms (symptoms >28 days). We replicated a previous randomised controlled trial to validate the safety, efficacy, and generalisability of, and objective adherence to, prescribed early targeted heart rate subsymptom threshold aerobic exercise compared with placebo-like stretching exercise for adolescent recovery from sport-related concussion and for reducing the risk of persistent post-concussive symptoms. Recovery with vistula tart cherries following a marathon.

PURPOSE: Long-distance running induces marked increases in inflammation and muscle damage. Tart cherries (TC) have become a popular nutritional strategy for exercise recovery, particularly for attenuation of markers associated with muscle damage and inflammation. RESEARCH QUESTION: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of a yet-to-be-explored cultivar (Vistula) of TC on recovery following a marathon. METHODS: Thirty-five recreationally trained marathon runners (mean ± SD age, stature, and mass were 40 ± 10 years old, 176.5 ± 10.2 cm, and 78.8 ± 13.8 kg, respectively) completed an u

Changes in segmental bioimpedance following eccentric plantar flexor exercise taken to volitional failure.

Segmental bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) evaluates cellular health through phase angle (PhA), resistance (R), and reactance (Xc), providing insights into localized muscle and fluid balance changes during exercise recovery. This exploratory study examined localized BIA responses following an eccentric plantar flexor exercise protocol combined with functional testing. Twenty male participants (82.6 ± 16 kg; 177 ± 8.7 cm; 23.8 ± 3.45 years) completed unilateral eccentric plantar flexor resistance training (40% of body mass as a weighted vest, four sets of fifty repetitions, fifth set to f
