OBJECTIVE: Based on the emotional theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and combined with the modern medicine theory of psychological stress, a research model of human uterine leiomyoma cells (ULM) was cultured in vitro to determine the effectiveness of adrenergic receptor (AR) agonists in human ULM cell growth. In addition, we studied the functional influence of "liver depression and psychological stress theory" on fibroid formation by intervening in the AR-cAMP-PKA signaling pathway. The intention was to establish a new method to prevent and cure fibroids through "liver depression and psyc

Emotion regulation is a multifaceted process essential to mental health. This review synthesizes established theoretical models within an integrative framework of emotion regulation that links individual regulatory abilities with the dynamic processes through which emotions are modulated. It outlines how these abilities develop through the interplay of biological predispositions and environmental factors, learning processes, and beliefs about emotion and highlights how regulatory abilities and process-level dynamics interact within a feedback-sensitive system. Repeated failures in this system,

Behavioral momentum theory (BMT) posits that particular independent variables may be adjusted during routine differential-reinforcement treatments (e.g., functional communication training) to reduce resurgence of severe destructive behavior. Across four consecutive studies using similar preparations and participants, our research group investigated four BMT-informed mitigation strategies: (a) lean reinforcement rates for target behavior during baseline, (b) lean reinforcement rates for alternative behavior during treatment, (c) a longer treatment duration, and (d) a combined approach including

This paper focuses on Jeffrey Gray's theory of anxiety from the perspective of Fowles' (1980) application of his work to theories of arousal, psychophysiology, and the etiology of psychopathy. Although highly influential, the concept of general arousal failed to find support in terms of between-individuals assessment with multiple physiological measures. Gray's constructs of a behavioral inhibition system (BIS) that mediates anxiety, a behavioral approach or activation system (BAS) that energizes behavior to approach rewards, and a nonspecific arousal system that energizes behavior captured as

BACKGROUND: Beyond its biological aspects, infertility interacts with systemic injustices, social stigma, and psychosocial pressures. To critically examine how infertility is experienced, mediated by gendered norms, structural barriers, and identity conflicts, this study draws on theoretical perspective of infertility as a socially entrenched issue by combining various concepts.
METHODS: This narrative review explores the psychological aspect of infertility with the synthesis of peer-reviewed articles. Literatures are critically analyzed using three theoretical frameworks (Stress and Coping T

The analysis of the story "The Curse" by Canetti (1977; it could have been a dream) allowed us to address concepts such as early trauma in Ferenczi, trauma in Freud, the body as a register of deep pain that houses perhaps even deeper psychic pain. Trauma occupies a principal place. It is a real trauma that cannot be linked; it is split off. In this sense, Ferenczi proposes thinking about the constitution of the infantile ego as an extension of the adult ego, thus this ego can operate as a structuring or de-structuring of the early trauma. The narration of this story allows us to think about th

The present research investigated the associations among motivational climates, basic psychological needs, burnout, and sleep disturbance in winter sports athletes guided by achievement goal theory and self-determination theory. It included 456 participants (263 males, 193 females, aged 18 to 25 years) from three sports universities across five winter sports events. Participants completed four psychological scales related to the study variables. The results indicated that task-involving climate was positively associated with basic psychological needs satisfaction, whereas ego-involving climate

Standard histories of behavioral economics locate the field's origins in the heuristics-and-biases program of the 1970s, treating earlier attempts to join psychology and economics as a prehistory that failed to take root. This article reconstructs the most sustained of those earlier attempts: the psychological economics that George Katona (1901-1981) built at the University of Michigan's Survey Research Center between 1946 and 1981. Drawing on Katona's published writings, the institutional record of the Michigan surveys, and the contemporary debates they provoked, the article argues that Katon

Theories and evidence on the aetiology of the 3 distinct forms of nightmares (REM nightmares, NREM night terrors, posttraumatic nightmares) are exposed. Depth psychological theories try an aetiological integration of the nightmare into their respective theories of dream formation, whereas empirical work stresses the personality-typical traits of nightmare sufferers. Clinical casework reports relate anxiety dreams to existing psychological and somatic pathology. Posttraumatic nightmares are repetitive mental reactions to heavy traumatic or life-threatening events. Nightmare therapy, insofar as

OBJECTIVES: A comprehensive overview of the evidence for factors derived from leading psychological theories of the onset of major depressive disorder (MDD) that underpin psychological interventions is scarce . We aimed to systematically investigate the prospective evidence for factors derived from the behavioural, cognitive, diathesis-stress, psychodynamic and personality-based theories for the first onset of MDD.
DESIGN: Systematic review and meta-analysis.
METHODS: Databases PubMed, PsycINFO, Cochrane and Embase and published articles were systematically searched from inception up to Augu

Positive psychology interventions (PPI) have been applied and demonstrated evidence in various population groups. The present systematic review focused on the types and influence of PPI on the physical and psychological health of pregnant women. Studies that matched the selection criteria were identified on EBSCOhost, PsychINFO, Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus and four positive psychology journals. From the 2528 records identified, finally eight studies were included in the review. PPI in this review were delivered utilising various positive psychology components such as hope, gratitude and opt

BACKGROUND: Victims of dating violence experience suicidal ideation at a higher rate than the general population. However, very few studies have examined the relationship between dating violence and suicidal ideation within an empirically supported theory of suicide. The interpersonal-psychological theory of suicide posits that thwarted interpersonal needs (i.e., thwarted belongingness and perceived burdensomeness) are proximal antecedents to suicidal ideation. The experience of dating violence may thwart such interpersonal needs, thus increasing risk for suicidal ideation.

Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) is a common sleep disorder associated with significant health, quality of life and psychosocial problems. The aims of this review are to investigate the contribution of psychological constructs and theory to the assessment and treatment of OSA. Adherence to CPAP treatment remains a primary concern for improving treatment outcomes for OSA. Modifiable, psychological constructs of self-efficacy, coping, social support, treatment satisfaction and self-reported daytime sleepiness improve the prediction of CPAP adherence. These predictors are particularly robust in the

Preloading of alcohol and/or drugs before an event has been examined in the research literature for the past two decades. Despite the considerable interest and scrutiny on the behaviour, there are limited, if any, attempts to conceptualise a theoretical understanding of why people preload before an event. Here we propose a Theory of Preloading (TOP)-a general cognitive-behavioural motivational model for alcohol and drug preloading. This conceptualisation reviewed and borrowed relevant cognitive, motivational and behavioural constructs from previous models-i.e., the Motivational Model of Alcoho

Machine learning is increasingly reshaping psychological and mental health research by complementing traditional theory-driven approaches with data-driven predictive modelling. This encompasses three key transitions: from hypothesis-testing to pattern discovery; from controlled experimental settings to naturalistic and multidimensional data ecosystems; and from explanatory theoretical models to prediction-informed theory-building and clinical translation. Nevertheless, this methodological reorientation remains insufficiently synthesised. Our aim is to examine how machine learning is reshaping

This theoretical research paper refers to the psychological consequences ofhypospadias, a male congenital deficiency of the urethra. Hypospadias is defined as an abnormal opening of the urethra on the underside of the penis and is a frequently found malformation with an incidence of 1 per 300 males. This malformation affects one of the most personal parts of the male anatomy and its psychological repercussions are undeniable. The vast majority of studies concerning this condition are found in the medical domain: surgical and pediatric urology and endocrynology. The difficulty in finding data a

Some Aspects for Understanding Psychodynamic Processes This article discusses psychodynamics as a central concept in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Psychodynamics refers to the interplay of unconscious conflicts, affects, relationships, and early experiences that shape the development of thinking, feeling, and behaviour, while also capturing the complexity of the psyche, which cannot be readily understood in a straightforward manner. The article emphasizes that psychic development invariably takes place within relationships with others and that internal and external influences

Attachment theory, developed by child psychiatrist John Bowlby, is considered a major theory in developmental psychology. Attachment theory can be seen as resulting from Bowlby's personal experiences, his psychoanalytic education, his subsequent study of ethology, and societal developments during the 1930s and 1940s. One of those developments was the outbreak of World War II and its effects on children's psychological wellbeing. In 1950, Bowlby was appointed WHO consultant to study the needs of children who were orphaned or separated from their families for other reasons and needed care in fos
