The Stabilization Technique for Ankle Lateral Repair: An All-Inside 2-Portal Arthroscopic Repair With Knotless Suture Anchors and Suture Tape Augmentation.

Lateral ankle sprains are among the most frequent injuries encountered in sports, with the anterior talofibular ligament being the structure most often affected. Although many individuals achieve full recovery, a substantial number experience chronic lateral ankle instability, which presents with recurrent sprains, mechanical instability, and ongoing discomfort. Although the open Broström-Gould repair remains the gold standard, arthroscopic techniques have gained attraction due to their minimally invasive nature, improved visualization, and faster recovery. In this article, we describe an all-

Bone Quality Positively Correlates With Biomechanical Strength of All-Suture Anchors Utilized in Biceps Tenodesis.

BACKGROUND: All-suture anchors (ASAs) are increasingly used in biceps tenodesis (BT), and their fixation strength may vary with cortical bone and surgical position. Defining the influence of bone mineral density (BMD) on ASA pullout strength and failure mode across the high bicipital groove (HG), low bicipital groove suprapectoral position (SUP), and subpectoral (SUB) positions may allow for optimal anchor placement. HYPOTHESIS: ASA biomechanical characteristics at each region of the bicipital groove would improve with increasing regional BMD. STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study. METH

Patellar Tendon Revision Reconstruction Using Transosseous Patella All-Suture Anchors, Semitendinosus Autograft, and Achilles Allograft.

Patellar tendon rupture is an uncommon but highly treatable injury, with excellent repair outcomes and low reoperation rates. Chronic patellar tendon ruptures or repair failures pose a clinical challenge, but the success rates of reconstruction with extensor mechanism allograft or autograft are reported to be high in the literature. Still, the reconstruction of chronic patellar tendon ruptures can be technically complex and yield inferior outcomes compared with primary repair. A wide array of operative strategies exists to combat these poor results, ranging from Achilles allograft augmentation

Biomechanical Evaluation of Classic Solid and All-Soft Suture Anchors for Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: Multiple techniques for patellar fixation with classic solid suture anchors (SAs) in medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction have been described. Fixation of the graft to the patella with all-soft suture anchors (ASAs) has not been studied. Purpose/Hypothesis: To evaluate the biomechanical performance of 2 different MPFL patellar fixation techniques: ASA fixation and SA fixation. We hypothesized that the ASA group would show no statistical difference in the ultimate failure load and stiffness compared with the SA group. STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study. METH

A Modified Suture Bridge Technique for Application With Bone Anchors in Foot and Ankle Surgery.

We present a suture bridge technique for reattachment of tendon or ligament to bone for use in foot and ankle surgery. The method is a simple, strong, and reproducible technique that could decrease the risk of irritation of the overlying cutaneous barrier and minimizes the likelihood of tendon strangulation when combined with soft tissue bone anchors. The present report serves as a guide to the use of this suture technique for reattachment of the Achilles tendon.

Knotless single-row rotator cuff repair: a comparative biomechanical study of 2 knotless suture anchors.

The purpose of this study was to compare the gap formation during cyclic loading, maximum repair strength, and failure mode of single-row full-thickness supraspinatus repairs performed using 2 knotless suture anchors with differing internal suture-retention mechanisms in a human cadaver model. Nine matched pairs of cadaver shoulders were used. Full-thickness tears were induced by detaching the supraspinatus tendon from the greater tuberosity. Single-row repairs were performed with either type I (Opus Magnum PI; ArthroCare, Austin, Texas) or type II (ReelX STT; Stryker, Mahwah, New Jersey) knot

Fixation of calcaneal avulsion fractures using screws with and without suture anchors: a biomechanical investigation.

BACKGROUND: Lag screw fixation commonly is used to treat avulsion fractures of the posterior calcaneal tuberosity, but this method may not offer reliable fixation. This study compared the strength to failure of lag screws compared to lag screw fixation augmented with suture anchors in these fractures. METHODS: The calcanei and Achilles tendons of 12 fresh lower extremity cadaver matched pairs were dissected and removed. An oblique osteotomy was created in the calcaneus, and two 4.0-mm lag screws were placed nearly perpendicular to the plane of the fracture in the dorsal aspect of the calcaneu

Complete osseous avulsion of the adductor longus muscle: acute repair with three fiberwire suture anchors.

BACKGROUND: An acute tear of the adductor longus tendon is a seldom injury. A proximal osseous avulsion of this tendon has never been reported in literature. METHODS: Acute repair (refixation) of the osseous avulsion with three suture anchors. RESULTS: Physical examinations 3, 6 and 24 months following the injury revealed no evidence of tenderness over the adductor muscle group, and range of motion was equal to the contra lateral hip. Manual muscle strength testing was 5/5 with resisted adduction and identical to the opposite side. The patient returned to his previous level of sports. CONCL

Biomechanical Analysis of Patellar Tendon Repair With Knotless Suture Anchor Tape Versus Transosseous Suture.

BACKGROUND: Patellar tendon ruptures have routinely been repaired with transosseous suture tunnels. The use of knotless suture anchors for repair has been suggested as an alternative. PURPOSE: To compare the load to failure and gap formation of patellar tendon repair at the inferior pole of the patella with knotless suture anchor tape versus transosseous sutures. A secondary objective was to investigate whether either technique shows an association between bone density and load to failure. STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study. METHODS: A total of 20 human tibias with attached patellar

Tendon-bone interface motion in transosseous suture and suture anchor rotator cuff repair techniques.

BACKGROUND: Although many studies involving rotator cuff repair fixation have focused on ultimate fixation strength and ability to restore the tendon's native footprint, no studies have characterized the stability of the repair with regard to motion between the tendon and repair site footprint. HYPOTHESIS: Suture anchor fixation for rotator cuff repair has greater interface motion between tendon and bone than does transosseous suture fixation. STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study. METHODS: Twelve fresh-frozen human cadaveric shoulders were tested in a custom device to position the shou

Kinematic Analysis of Combined Suture-Button and Suture Anchor Augment Constructs for Ankle Syndesmosis Injuries.

BACKGROUND: Syndesmosis injuries are common, with up to 25% of all ankle injuries being reported to involve an associated syndesmosis injury. These injuries are typically treated with cortical screw fixation or suture-button implants when indicated, but the addition of a suture anchor augment implant has yet to be evaluated. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ability of a suture anchor augment to add sagittal plane translational and transverse plane rotational constraint to suture-button constructs with syndesmosis injuries. We hypothesized that the suture anchor augment oriented in

Sesamoid non-union treatment using suture anchor fixation.

There is limited research on managing chronic fibular sesamoid non-union, and surgical treatment choices remain debated. A woman in her 20s presents with a 3-year history of intermittent plantar pain beneath the first metatarsal head. Examination reveals first metatarsophalangeal joint instability. Radiographs demonstrate a fractured fibular sesamoid with progressive diastasis; MRI confirms bone oedema consistent with chronic fracture. After failed conservative management, she undergoes open reduction and suture-wire cerclage fixation. This case highlights advanced imaging's role in distinguis

Lateral Extra-Articular Tenodesis via an All-Suture Anchor.

BACKGROUND: In young patients, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction often results in graft failure. This may be due, in part, to concomitant injury to anterolateral complex (ALC) of the knee leading to rotatory laxity. The modified Lemaire lateral extra-articular tenodesis (LET) technique is intended to address the anterolateral rotatory instability due to injury to the ALC and to protect the ACL graft and meniscus. INDICATIONS: The International Anterolateral Complex Consensus Group Meeting identified 4 appropriate indications for the modified Lemaire LET procedure: revision ACL,
