[Outcome of surgical treatment of habitual shoulder dislocation].

There has been carried out an analysis of treatment of 134 patients with habitual shoulder-slips according to 4 known methods and I proposed by the authors. There has been detected a number of typical defects, made by doctors in the process of treatment during acute period. The essence of the proposed method consists in strengthening by lavsan bandage "North-CITO" of the anterior part of the shoulder joint that allows to begin early restorative treatment.

Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis: Analysis of treatment and outcome.

Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis occurred on 44 separate occasions in 43 patients during a five year period, including 27 culture positive and 17 probable cases of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. Alcoholic liver disease was the underlying cause of 72% of cases. Of the 27 culture positive cases, Escherichia coli was the most common isolate (14 cases), followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae (three cases), group G streptococci (three cases), group B streptococci (two cases) and one case each of five other organisms. Bacteremia occurred in 50% of cases and was the same as the peritoneal isolate 88%

Fetal outcome following maternal treatment with prostaglandin E2.

Pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats were treated subcutaneously with PGE2 at doses of 50, 100 and 200 micrograms on gestational days 5 through 8. Control animals received physiological saline in a similar manner. On day 20 of gestation the animals were anaesthetized and fetuses were removed by hysterotomy. All fetuses recovered were alive and appeared normal. The incidence of fetal resorptions was not significantly increased. Visceral abnormalities and skeletal defects were not observed in the offspring. Also, the mean weight of treated fetuses was not significantly different from that of the corresp

Neonatal outcome after indomethacin treatment for preterm labor.

Forty-six infants exposed to indomethacin in utero for treatment for preterm labor were compared with infants from two control groups. In one control group the next consecutive patient treated with a tocolytic agent was used, and the other control group was formed by picking the next consecutive patient matched by gestational age who did not receive any tocolytic agent. There was no significant difference in Apgar scores, birth weight, or gestational age in the three groups. The incidence of neonatal complications including hypocalcemia, hypoglycemia, respiratory distress syndrome, patient duc

Treatment of secondary orgasmic dysfunction: an outcome study.

This study investigated the differential effectiveness of various treatment formats for 55 couples in which the woman reported secondary orgasmic dysfunction (defined as the inability of the woman to reach orgasm during intercourse, with or without clitoral stimulation, more than 50% of the time for the last 5 months). Couples received two 2-hr sessions of sexual reeducation and were then assigned into one of four treatment conditions (a communication skills format, a sexual skills format, one of two combination formats) or into one of two control conditions (an attention-comparison control co

Tibial condylar fractures. Evaluation of treatment and outcome.

One hundred ten tibial condylar fractures incurred during the period from 1972 to 1978 were reviewed retrospectively. Fifty-two knees were reviewed more than one year after initial injury and were subjected to critical evaluation using a point rating system. Overall, the results were acceptable in 84% of patients. The use of a cast of traction generally produced very good results. Case bracing was used in 31% of the series. Open reduction was reserved for 17 severe and challenging fractures; six of the 17 had unsatisfactory functional results.

The Outcome of Treatment for Thyroglossal Tract Anomalies.

Background Thyroglossal tract anomalies are the most common cause of midline neck swelling. Thyroglossal cysts present between the base of the tongue and cricoid cartilage as painless, midline swelling that moves on deglutition and protrusion of the tongue. If the thyroglossal cyst gets infected or is violated surgically, it can result in a thyroglossal sinus or fistula. Investigations in patients with suspected thyroglossal cysts include a thyroid function test, ultrasonography of the neck, and fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC). Computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI

Functional outcome of arterial thoracic outlet syndrome treatment.

INTRODUCTION: The low prevalence of Arterial Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (ATOS) and diffuse symptomatology have resulted in limited data on optimal treatment strategies and long-term outcome. The aim of this study was to report and evaluate a single center experience with the treatment of ATOS including midterm patient reported outcome. METHODS: All patients treated for ATOS from 2004 to 2020 were retrospectively identified. Patients were divided into two groups based on presenting symptoms; ATOX group (Acute arterial occlusion with ischemia) and ATOS group (claudication symptoms). Baseline char

Surgical Treatment Outcome for Familial Melkersson-Rosenthal Syndrome.

BACKGROUND Recurrent facial nerve palsy, orofacial edema, and fissured tongue are a triad of manifestations that characterize a rare disorder named Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome. It is important to consider this syndrome when diagnosing atypical, unilateral, or bilateral facial palsies with characteristics of familial prevalence. There is no established outcome prediction for this disease and the syndrome does not have a specific duration or prospective timeline. Recurrent facial paralysis can require surgery and a multidisciplinary approach with regular follow-up. CASE REPORT We describe a 38

[Interpersonal behavioral style as predictor of treatment outcome].

BACKGROUND: Interpersonal behavioral style (IPBS) refers to the way in which someone behaves in social contact. IPBS affects the type and quality of different social interactions including the therapeutic relationship. The therapeutic relationship correlates with treatment outcome, IPBS possibly too. The direction of that relationship remains unclear. AIM: To examine the predictive value of IPBS on treatment outcome in group treatment. METHOD: 149 patients were divided in different types of IPBS: degree of affiliation (kindness vs. hostility), degree of dominance (dominant vs. submissive), q

Acute Retinal Necrosis: Signs, Treatment, Complications and Outcome.

BACKGROUND: The Acute Retinal Necrosis (ARN) is an inflammatory, rapidly progressive necrotizing retinitis and vasculitis, most frequently caused by Varicella-Zoster-Virus (VZV), followed by Herpes-Simplex-Virus (HSV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Epstein-Barr-Virus (EBV). The diagnosis is based on clinical signs that were first defined by the American Uveitis Society in 1994 that include one or more foci of retinal necrosis, rapid progression without treatment, circumferential progression, occlusive vasculopathy, and inflammatory signs of the vitreous and anterior chamber Methods: In this retros

Hypothalamic-Pituitary Outcome after Treatment for Childhood Craniopharyngioma.

Although childhood-onset craniopharyngioma is a low-grade intracranial tumor with excellent prognosis in terms of overall survival, survivors may suffer from devastating consequences caused by hypothalamic damage. Disease- or treatment-related hypothalamic damage leads to disturbed hunger-satiety and thirst feelings, decreased energy expenditure, behavioral problems, disturbances of circadian rhythm, temperature dysregulation, and pituitary dysfunction. These children are at great risk for developing the metabolic syndrome and comorbidities leading to premature mortality. In this chapter, we s

Recognition, Treatment, and Outcome of Calcaneal Fracture-Dislocation.

BACKGROUND: Calcaneal fracture-dislocations are rare but potentially disabling injuries that are regularly overlooked at first presentation. To date, only about 50 cases have been reported in the literature. METHODS: Over a period of 8 years, 10 patients (average age 61.7 years) with acute fracture-dislocations of the calcaneus were treated at 2 level 1 trauma centers. The calcaneocuboid joint was involved in 9 patients. There was a concomitant fracture of the lateral talar process and of the tip of the distal fibula in 7 patients each. Open reduction and internal fixation was performed in 9
