PURPOSE: To report a case of temporary bilateral corneal denting in a patient who underwent cardiovascular surgery under general anesthesia.
OBSERVATIONS: A 71-year-old male with no history of ophthalmological disease experienced bilateral corneal denting immediately after undergoing surgery for aneurysm of the thoracic aorta under general anesthesia. OBJECTIVE: To study the efficacy and safety of mydriatic microdrops compared with standard drops for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) screening.
STUDY DESIGN: Preterm infants undergoing ROP screening received microdrops and standard drops of phenylephrine 1.67% and tropicamide 0.33% in a random allocation sequence at two consecutive weekly examinations. Primary outcome was pupil diameter measured by two masked observers at 45 (T45) and 90 (T90) minutes after instillation.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the influence of the pupillary diameter, ciliary muscle tone, and room light on nerve fiber layer measurements with the scanning laser polarimeter (GDx).
METHODS: One randomly selected eye of ten normal volunteers was examined with the GDx in a two-day protocol under eight testing conditions (pilocarpine 1%, phenylephrine 10%, tropicamide 1%, or no drops with room lights on or off). The study was carried out on the eyes of patients (aged 20-75 eyes) without glaucoma and with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). PURPOSE: To report the long term results of bifocal treatment in nonrefractive accommodative esotropia and to analyze the changes of accommodative convergence to accommodation (AC/A) ratio.
METHODS: Sixteen patients treated with bifocal glasses for at least 5 years were evaluated retrospectively. PURPOSE: The recommended concentration of topical phenylephrine for mydriasis is still a matter of debate. Our purpose was to compare the cardiovascular effects of 10% and 2.5% topical aqueous phenylephrine.

The localisation of M1-M4 muscarinic cholinergic receptor subtypes was investigated in sections of normal human term placenta by light microscope autoradiography. We studied ocular surface pH in 161 subjects. The mean pH for 133 normal volunteers was 7 . 11, SD 1 . 5. We found that older women had a more alkaline pH than other subjects, that the pH shifted from acid to alkaline during the day, that one hour of eyelid closure caused an acid shift in pH, and that pH recovered to baseline values within 40 minutes after acid drop instillation. We explored the mechanism of pH regulation, and we believe that pH changes could affect contact lens toleration, drug effectiveness, and clinical signs in disease processes.

PURPOSE: To demonstrate that use of a mydriatic agent remains a significant confounder in autorefraction of the presbyopic population.
