Association between amniotic fluid evaluation and fetal biometry: a prospective French "Flash" study.

We aimed to study the association between three different methods of assessing the amount of amniotic fluid (subjective method (SM), deepest vertical pocket (DVP) and amniotic fluid index (AFI)) and estimated fetal weight (EFW) (in percentile or Z-score) after adjustment on maternal-fetal parameters. We performed a nationwide cross-sectional study through the French network of obstetric sonographers using the "flash" study method and including low-risk singleton pregnancies from 18-40 weeks. Crude and adjusted odds ratio were computed after stratification upon 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnanc

Correlation of Corneal Biomechanical Stiffness With Refractive Error and Ocular Biometry in a Pediatric Population.

PURPOSE: To assess the correlation between corneal biomechanical stiffness and refractive error (RE) in the pediatric population. METHODS: A total of 733 pediatric eyes were included in the study retrospectively. All eyes underwent corneal tomography (Pentacam), RE assessment, and air-puff deformation (Corvis-ST). Waveform analyses of deformation provided corneal stiffness (CS) and extraocular tissue stiffness (EOS). Eyes were subgrouped into emmetropia [manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE) ∼ 0 D], hyperopia (MRSE > 0 D), myopia I (MRSE between 0 D and -3 D), myopia II (MRSE betwee

[Involutional changes in the human eye accommodative apparatus as evidenced by ultrasound biometry and biomicroscopy].

The paper presents the results of studying involutional changes in the accommodative apparatus of the eye in presbyopia by ultrasound biometry and biomicroscopy. Persons aged 40-70 years who had presbyopia and emmetropic refraction and without concomitant eye disease were examined. In addition to routine studies, all the examinees underwent ultrasound biomicroscopy and ultrasound biometry. The age-related lenticular enlargement was established to be accompanied by a considerable reduction in the orbicular space of the posterior chamber of the eye to the extent of its transformation to a slotte

[Comparison of ultrasound and optic biometry with respect to ocular refraction after cataract surgery].

In the prospective study of 56 patients with cataract (67 eyes) the authors compared axial length biometry) regarding to postoperative refraction of the eyes. Dioptric power of the intraocular lens (IOL) was determined by SRK II. formula. The difference between predicted and actual postoperative refraction in the spherical equivalent were compared 3 months postoperatively. Axial length measured by ultrasound differed significantly from the axial length measured by optical biometry (p = 0.016). Dioptric power of IOL calculated according to the axial length measured by ultrasound was significant

Evaluation of the validity and reliability of A-scan ultrasound biometry with a single use disposable cover.

BACKGROUND: The UK Medical Devices Agency has suggested that ophthalmic practitioners should, where practicable and not compromising clinical outcome, restrict corneal contact devices to single patient use to minimise a remote theoretical risk of transmission of new variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD). This study reports on a modified technique of ultrasound A-scan biometry that complies with the MDA recommendations. METHODS: The right eyes of 37 consecutive hospital patients had a series of biometry readings taken with a Humphrey 820 A-scan instrument with a plane wave transducer use d

Use of biometry and keratometry for determining optimal power for intraocular lens implants in dogs.

Axial length and corneal curvature were determined by use of A-scan ultrasonography and keratometry on both eyes of dogs of various breeds, sizes, and ages. Mean axial length was 20.43 +/- 1.48 mm; axial length was not related to age or sex, but was significantly greater (P = 0.047) in dogs of larger breeds. Mean corneal curvature was 39.94 +/- 2.61 diopters. Dogs of large breeds had significantly (P less than 0.001) flatter corneas. Mild, roughly symmetric astigmatism was detected in a majority of dogs. Use of mean values in a theoretic artificial intraocular lens power equation suggests that
