Effect of Down syndrome on the dimensions of dental crowns and tissues.

Abnormal growth in Down syndrome (DS) is reflected by variable reduction in size and simplification in form of many physical traits. This study aimed to compare the thickness of enamel and dentine in deciduous and permanent mandibular incisor teeth between DS and non-DS individuals and to clarify how these tissues contribute to altered tooth size in DS. Sample groups comprised 61 mandibular incisors (29 permanent and 32 deciduous) from DS individuals and 55 mandibular incisors (29 permanent and 26 deciduous) from non-DS individuals. Maximum mesiodistal and labiolingual crown dimensions were me

The first examples of a crown ether intramolecularly encapsulating mono- and diorganotin dications: synthesis and structures of [PhSnCH2([16]crown-5)][ClO4]2 and [HOSnCH2([16]crown-5)][Y]2 (Y=ClO4, CF3SO3).

The reaction of silver perchlorate with [PhI(2)SnCH(2)([16]crown-5)] (1) and [I(3)SnCH(2)([16]crown-5)] (2) gave the organotin(IV)-substituted crown ether complexes [PhSnCH(2)([16]crown-5)][ClO(4)](2) (3) and [HOSnCH(2)([16]crown-5)][Y](2) (4: Y=ClO(4), 5: Y=CF(3)SO(3)), respectively. All compounds have been isolated as air-stable materials and characterised by (1)H, (13)C, (119)Sn and (119)Sn MAS (5) NMR spectroscopy, ESIMS spectrometry, elemental analysis and by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The molecular structures of 3-5 show that the tin(IV) cation fits perfectly into the cro

Gold vs. CAD/CAM ceramic partial-crowns: 20-year randomized clinical study.

OBJECTIVES: Despite their widespread use, no systematic clinical long-term data are yet available comparing CAD/CAM partial ceramic crowns (PCCs) with cast gold partial crowns (CGPC). The null-hypothesis of this 20-year follow-up of a controlled prospective randomized split-mouth study was that CGPCs and PCCs reveal similar cumulative survival and clinical performance after 20 years of service. METHODS: In this clinical study, 29 patients initially received one CGPC (Degulor-C) and one PCC (Vita-Mark-II/Cerec3). The 20-year follow-up examination was performed by two independent investigators

Fracture characteristics and translucency of multilayer monolithic zirconia crowns of various thicknesses.

OBJECTIVES: Multilayer monolithic zirconia (M-Zr) crowns can be engineered to achieve gradational translucency and color intensity. However, this modification may compromise the mechanical strength, raising concerns regarding the ability of M-Zr crowns to withstand occlusal stresses. The effects of M-Zr crown thickness on translucency and ability to endure occlusal forces were investigated at different tooth positions (incisors, premolars, and molars). The objective was to determine the minimal thickness of M-Zr crowns used in tooth preparation to meet aesthetic and functional demands. METHOD

Failure Modes and Survival of Anterior Crowns Supported by Narrow Implant Systems.

The reduced hardware design of narrow implants increases the risk of fracture not only of the implant itself but also of the prosthetic constituents. Hence, the current study is aimed at estimating the probability of survival of anterior crowns supported by different narrow implant systems. Three different narrow implant systems of internal conical connections were evaluated (Ø3.5 × 10 mm): (i) Active (Nobel Biocare), (ii) Epikut (S.I.N. Implant System), and (iii) BLX (Straumann). Abutments were torqued to the implants, and standardized maxillary incisor crowns were cemented. The assemblies we

Effect of prolonged ultrasonic instrumentation on the retention of cemented cast crowns.

Occasionally the need arises to remove restorations that have been cemented. Several ultrasonic tips have been developed to aid in removing cemented restorations. Earlier studies of the effects of ultrasonic vibration reveal detrimental effects on amalgam surface and marginal integrity and, at short instrumentation periods (2.5 minutes) in vitro, no significant effect on the retention of cemented cast crowns. Twenty identically machined metal dies had nonprecious crowns waxed, cast, and fitted. Each casting was cemented twice with glass ionomer and zinc phosphate cement. Each cement was tested

"Influence of macroretention in polymer-infiltrated ceramic network- and zirconia crowns and different roughness values of titanium bases on adhesive bond strength of hybrid abutment crowns: an in vitro study".

BACKGROUND: Two-piece hybrid abutment crowns (HACs) are CAD/CAM-fabricated implant restorations adhesively bonded to prefabricated titanium bases (Ti-bases). Since adhesive bond represents a potential weakness, methods to enhance long-term durability are being investigated. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the influence of additional macroretention, specifically a circumferential groove, incorporated into polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) and zirconia crowns, and two Ti-base sandblasting protocols on adhesive bond strength of HACs. METHODS: Ninety Ti-bases, 45 zirconia
